2026 Olys Womens FS PBP - Missed Full of Horrors

I only saw the women from Jia forward tonight but what I saw was great. So few mistakes and some interesting programs, really the best Oly womens’ comp since Vancouver.

As a longtime fan of both Alysa and Kaori I couldn’t lose, because the odds were that one would win, but I’m still delighted with results.

And Petrosian. I feel really sorry for her as a young woman in impossible circumstances but she still was overmarked.

Oh, I think they both made the right choice to guarantee the team gold. I was just saying it's a topic people will continue to debate about.

The Sheep Detectives is based on the Leonie Swann book that was translated into English with the title Three Bags Full.

For those of you who want to see Emma Thompson in a role unlike anything else she has ever done, watch the adaptation of Mick Herron’s Down Cemetery Road on Apple TV.
 
I agree with the placement on the podium and I'm thrilled to see Alysa win. It is also tough to see Kaori miss out on what she wanted so badly. And Ami is so stinking cute (and loaded with talent.)

I also feel sorry for Petrosian. What I won't miss are the comments made about Alysa last year on some of her YouTube vids from some Russians who suggested she wouldn't place in the top 10 at Russian Nationals and how superior their skaters are to those outside of Russia. That arrogance gets old quickly.

Very happy for Alysa and all the medalists and especially for Amber having such a redemptive comeback. This was the best skated ladies event I think I've ever seen overall.

But honestly, the best moment of all for me?

Seeing Eteri backstage looking like she wanted to commit murder after Petrosian's free skate.

Slimy, and VERY satisfying (apologies to "The Lion King")...

Post-FS interview:

Sakamoto: (was asked about the FS. At first, she was smiling but after hearing the question, she couldn't hold back the tears)
I couldn't 100% deliver the program. While I regret that, I'm glad to be able to win the silver.
I wanted perfection - but wasn't able to. That lead to losing the gold which pains me.
I won silver at the last Olympics. It felt like a miracle. This time, it was hard work and lots of pain. I won the silver again. It shows that I've grown so much over the past 4 years.

I really felt fulfilled from the Teams event. Everybody so supportive. I achieved my goal to get a medal (she had said she wanted the gold, or at least silver). Thank you so so much for your support. You gave me the power and energy.


Nakai: (all smiley) I am so so so and still in shock at winning Bronze. (Interviewer/you won an Olympic medal!) Yes. I was quite nervous before the SP. However, I was surprised for not being so nervous before the FS. I was the last to skate and watching all the other skaters doing a great job, enjoying themselves, I told myself that I'm gonna do that, too. Relax and enjoy!
(on realizing in the K&C that she was 3rd) I didn't know where the ranking was displayed. It was right next to my name.
It's a dream come true. And sharing the podium with her (Sakamoto) was great.
I have a long road ahead of me (competitive years) and I'll train hard to get a ticket to the next Olympics.

I'm guessing Alysa gets invited to the gala now. ;) I saw several videos on Instagram or Facebook where she said she hoped to be invited to the gala because she has a new program to Pantheress (?) she wants to show off. :lol: I fully expected her to be on the podium, though, so I knew she'd be invited. I just wasn't sure what color medal it would be. :p And I'm absolutely thrilled she ended up with gold (although I thought she'd be perfectly chill no matter what happened). I finally found a ladiezz skater to love like I loved Kwan. :cheer2:

"Stateside" by Pink Pantheress (of whom I've never heard)
 
Liu really lit up the arena. She rocked it like she always does. Sold the program. Enjoyed it. YAY Liu! ETA: Luuuurve her hair!

NHK commentator Akiko Suzuki on Liu: (sighing) She makes every element look so easy. How she can skate so relaxed and full of joy is a mystery to me. (sighs again) LOL

I really laughed when Nakai realizing the "3" next to her name, pointed up 3 fingers and turned to Liu "Am I 3rd?" Liu jumped from her seat and hugged her assuring her that indeed she won the bronze.

And Satoko Miyahara was a commentator in Tokyo. Looking elegant. Enjoyed her talking. Saying she wished she was in Italy and could give Sakamoto (who she called Kao-chan) a hug. Awwwww.

I saw on one of The Skating Lesson FB page that Eteri was texting backstage after Adeliia skated

Anyone know more about this?

Also don't know his name but the coach beside her in the K&C was pretty emotionless.

I feel sorry for the skater but she was kind of being used as a pawn in the political game.
 
I also hope that when Alysa is held up as an example of an accomplished skater, the emphasis will not be so much on what she was pushed to achieve in the first part of her career, but more on what she achieved when she came back to skating on her own terms. That is a very powerful lesson for parents, coaches, federations, etc.
 
Well, I enjoyed that a lot and am happy for all the medalists.

I was watching the venue feed on Peacock waiting for the medal ceremony and had to laugh at one point, when Alyssa is walking down a hallway with a couple of people, talking I think, and then all of a sudden she says, “Where are we going?” :lol: The guy on her right says, “To the medal ceremony…” like he was perplexed she didn’t know. :rofl:

A bunch of incels were posting gross sexual comments about Isabeau all over the Internet after that video. I'd like to wring their necks. Even if she didn't see it (and some of them were posting right on her Instagram), it's a disgusting thing to do to a young woman. Or any woman.

Public figures of any kind really need to manage their social networks. I wonder if there are options to block posts with certain words/phrases. If I were a coach, I might tell my skaters: during the Olys, you can post, but you can’t read!
