Good morning from Halifax. It's nice to be watching my first LIVE skating of the season. Usually, with the events from Asia, I have to watch everything on video but the Cup of China lets me watch 2 events each day as they are happening. Good luck to everyone.

Zhiming Peng 🇨🇳
Coach: Zhaoxiao Xu
Music: The Game is Afoot

4S - fall
4T+3T
3A - tight landing
Change Foot Sit Spin 3
Flying Camel Spin 3
Step Sequence 2
Change Foot Combo Spin 2

Technical tracker seems to have broken again. Audience going wild every time Peng starts an element no matter how routine it is.

-1.00 = Falls
67.41 = 1st Place

Peng's posture is ghastly, but he did go for a 4S and the 4t/3t, which was more than I expected from the first skater.

Daiwei Dai 🇨🇳
Coach: Dan Fang, Shuguang Jia
Music: You by Two Feet

2T+3T
2Lz* - invalid element, no value
Change Foot Camel Spin 4
3A - turn on the exit
Change Foot Combo Spin 4

Step Sequence 4 - significant loss of balance
Flying Sit Spin 2

Rough skate for Dai that's going to put him behind in the race of the Olympic spot.

61.82 = 2nd Place

Dai much stronger skating skills but 2 pops... :yikes: My feed is really buffering so I'm likely going to be well behind.

Dai is infinitely more interesting than Boyang Jin but this competition counts for a lot in the Chinese Olympic spot race and this was a disaster for him.

Jumps not there for Daiwei today. I wonder if his friends call him "Dai?" Hard to go wrong with that name. I wish they'd get the tracker back on the screen. I miss keeping one eye on the GOEs.

IDK who Joey Russell ever thinks he's choreographing for but Jin's programs since switching over have ALWAYS been wildly mismatched- not to mention this is a repeat. The basics are worse than they were in 2016 when he was at least charming with his programs.

Like this is all three turns and crossovers and clunky at that.

I'm not a conspiracy theorists normally but no tracker for the first three Men all from China and competing for the team? Sus.
Because the ISU cares so much about who goes to the Olympics for China in the men's event.

Boyang Jin 🇨🇳
Coach: Zhaoxiao Xu
Music: Fought & Lost by S. Ryder, B. May

4T
3A
Flying Camel Spin 4
3Lz+3T
Change Foot Combo Spin 4
Step Sequence 3

Change Foot Sit Spin 4

Quality skate from Jin. and the toys rain down.

86.62 = 1st Place

The Host does and they supply the ISU feed. 🤷

Anyway, I generally say "Never ascribe to malice what can be explained by incompetence" so I'm not saying it's on purpose, just saying it's a bad look.

Boyang is not coached by Brian Orser anymore? I'll openly admit I've not been keeping up with skating news during the off season.
