That score would have in fact beaten Kovalevs in Skate to Milano and likely gotten the Olympic spot. For people that insist on comparative stats in every competition following.

Would have been 4th, but I think the rule is that if any spots get turned back they go to the next country without spots; assuming they follow that logic, they would have needed 3rd to actually get the spot.

Katie is the most poised pair girl. I've never seen anyone else look so completely calm up in the air. And yes, she looks so much like Sasha!

That was a bunch of nothing. Can't stand his puffed out chest and hunched back in the lifts. Music was all too one-note really. Underwhelmed for the most part.

McBark - finally some tasteful costumes; 3tw - lovely & floaty; SBS 3t+1a+2a - the toe was good the rest was a mess; SBS 3s - she popped; throw 3lo - dipped head on the landing but stayed up; first lift - good; BODS - fine; pairs combo spin - alright; throw 3f - deeeeep knee bend on the landing but stayed up; second lift - good; choreo seq - eh; last lift - very cool cartwheel exit.

Well, not perfect, but could have been a lot worse and they'll definitely stay ahead of ShiNagy. Be interesting to see if they can hit 180 overall or not - going to be close, IMO.

Fabulous lifts but the rest was... not memorable. And they could be skating to anything, really little connection to the music.

That's how the rule appears to be written, but the official Alternates List the ISU released after Skate to Milano has all the countries who've already qualified spots in different disciplines listed. Officially, the USA is in the 3rd alternate position for pairs.

It does say that in the qualifying doc - Section F - "Reallocation of Unused Quota Places" on page 7.

Soft spot for this team, too. A few years ago they never missed anything but their programs had nothing in them and they had no connection. I think they warmed up to each other and the choreography has been stepped up.... although I think they are infinitely more dynamic than this music.

And she can pop off 3T+3T in practice like it's nothing.

This is a great team with poor styling. Weren’t they the ones skating to Fleetwood Mac last year? They need classical.

I know everyone craps on the Hungarians, but I like them. They are a solid team after an afternoon of misses.
