2025-26 Program Music and Choreographers

I'm willing to not have an opinion until we've seen it.... but I do think that this is a huge risk - their dune was amazing, comparison and expectation here will be huge and I think that as a concept, judges will either love it or hate it.

I imagine it will feel very different with new lifts and costuming etc and good for them for taking a risk and sticking to what they feel passionate about for the Olympics but yeah only time will tell with this one

Smart/Dieck just announced their FD as Dune II. Sigh, their Dune FD last year was amazing but I'm not sure they'll be able to repeat that.

Feels like it's going to be either a huge success or an epic failure, no in between.

Fan favorite now, but fans are fickle and will get sick of it real quick in a repeat year (started to happen with snake charmer as an example). Ironically, their FD was one of the only Dune programs we’ve had to date that actually used music from Part II.

Yeah. I reckon the smart (no pun intended) move would have been to use a new programme all season, then bring back Dune for the Olympics, if they really wanted.

Emm, unlike the C/B's snake charmer program, it's not a repeat of the same FD, but a new FD with a different music and choreo continuing the same theme. It can either fall short of the first FD, like many sequels do, or be a similar success. We also have to consider that many casual spectators who will watch skating at the Olympics won't have seen the original Dune FD.

Oh dear... someone check on @AngieNikodinovLove (ANL) to see if he's crying in the corner.
Well, at least we can rely on them to do something interesting with it.

:shuffle: I'm slightly fascinated how devoted people are to this team. To me they are campy but have the equivalent talent of a team like Kaliszek/Spodyriev but just don't take themselves as seriously.

From Disco Brits to Dune Brit (and partner). I.AM never rarely fails to find a rut they don't mind falling into.

Sonja Hilmer has revealed her long program music along with the costume. It's Isha's
Song by Eason Chan from Arcane. She did the choreography and costume herself.

Is it confirmed how much they are actually re-working? It was a bit ambiguous to me when I saw the post, but I only saw it quickly in passing while my flight was landing.

I do think it’s a good choice for the casual Olympic audience and the opportunity to capture attention and some virality that’s very valuable for them professionally. Olympic viewers will be excited by it the same way the fanbase was when the first iteration debuted. I think Dune Messiah is scheduled for a December 2026 release, so perhaps not exactly a perfect capture of Dune zeitgeist in pop culture, but there is synergy there. But none of that matters to the judges during the GP and S/D’s mission to keep their upward trajectory growing or at least stable through this season.

Not sure I believe Chock can outdo herself with a better costume for Olivia. I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing the same costume.

Nothing was said about reworking. The FD for next season is titled 'Dune Part II'. This suggests a completely new FD which is going to continue the same theme of the movies.

But did "Dune, part 1" really follow the theme of the movie? I loved the program (though honestly more watching it on TV than live in Boston), but it was more of a mood than actually evoking the movie's political, environmental and religious ideas. YMMV.

It may be. I haven't really watched the movies, just some fragments. Perhaps I should have just said "the same theme" without mentioning the movies themselves.

Until I see Dune II fully baked and skated to its potential at Euros, I will reserve judgement. Fingers crossed that they have a whole list of music snippets and moves that they absolutely loved, but ended up on the cutting room floor for Dune I and that Chock has an idea of how to progress the costumes.

The video clip announcing Dune II made a point of saying the closing pose of their Dune I FD was the starting point for the new program, the next chapter in the story so to speak. And it looks like they're starting the new program in that same pose from Dune I, so it would seem that it's mostly new music cuts and choreo rather than a recycling of the original FD.

This is a very powerful cover! Maybe a bittersweet way to say "Goodbye".
