2025 Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships - Lake Placid NY, USA - July 27-31

Why do I feel like I've seen them do The Godfather before? Probably my imagination & I'm thinking of another team, but someone needs to go in & complete the Browns wikipedia page with their programs from before they were juniors.

ETA:
Maybe the idea is feeling so familiar to me because they do a reverse lift & of course Faiella & Scali had a reverse lift in their Godfather.

Congrats to the Browns! Their first senior int'l win?

Good job by T/K, coming back from injury and a disappointing performance at Worlds.

ETA: I know this probably isn't the thread to discuss this, but does anyone know what Tkachenko's ISR citizenship status is? I wonder if they would even be able to go to the Olys if they earned a spot.

Apparently he’s a citizen and she has Israeli relatives. All she needs is one Jewish grandparent so fingers crossed.

ETA: I doubt they would have chosen to skate for Israel if citizenship was impossible. They know the system.

Well, that's got to be the best material Les Gacs have had in years. We'll see what FabAyer come up with, but they really need to step up their game if they want to have a fighting chance at that 3rd Canadian Oly spot, IMO.

Lim/Quan's FD has some promise, but they need to put Hannah back in jewel tones. In an Olympic year especially, you work with your strengths, and while it's good that the program looks a little more balanced between the two of them, Hannah's ability to stand out on the ice is still a strength. A pop of color, if you'll pardon the cliche, would do them a lot of good.

Agree. And get rid of the lyrics.

I'm a little disappointed so far in the Browns Godfather. I had high hopes because I absolutely love that soundtrack (and them). I feel like the edits and choreographic story are a just bit disconnected from one section of music to the next. I also don't think the choreography is allowing them to make full use of their musicality, which is their biggest strength. I agree it's a step up in potential and look vs the last couple of FD's. I'm still recovering from the Baba O'Riley edits. Hopefully we'll see it develop well, it has a lot of potential.

Lim/Quan's FD isn't really the style I go for, but I can see it being very effective later in the season, when they're skating full out and have a big crowd to build off. Their new lifts in the first half are great too.

The pastel is too bland for Hannah, but I'd rather they change her RD costume. Men in Black needs Hannah in suit too, not a workout bodysuit with weird faux tie cutouts.

It's definitely a "how can they listen to that everyday?" piece for me. An early-00s vibe in a bad way, like something GrushGons would have skated to.

I really don’t want her in black at all. She needs to be an alien from MIB.
That's such a brilliant idea, but I expect it would completely change the structure & concept of their RD.

My completely biased and snarky thoughts on based on the FD videos posted;

Browns: Sorry to dissent from most, but I found this program one of the most generic of the lot. I'm guessing she may have missed a level in the straightline footwork, as it looked as though she had some wobbles. I do hope this remains her dress though, as it's the most flattering she's had in years. His stretch is divine; his goatee... not so much.

Peals: Good law, who thought this ELO music was a good choice for these two? Lifts and spins were very labored but their steps really executed very nicely.

LesGacs: Clearly the best program of this lot. Inventive, dynamic, good consistent speed and the best lifts and performance by far. I agree they are gunning for the Games and Fabbri/Ayer need something extraordinary to hold them off.

Lim/Quan: I'm all in on the Samuel Barber portion of their "Adagio," the vocal version of the Albinoni "Adagio" gets worse as it goes on. However, I felt like they really attacked the program, and her expression down to her fingernails is evident even in this distant fan cam video. The last 30-40 seconds really fades out and needs to be reworked to find some more spark and drama.

Tkachenko/Kiliakov: Superb attack on their lifts and the first position in the dance spin is incredible. Hopefully these dreary costumes are not intended for this dance. They could use more speed, and the last 45 seconds of music slows and gets softer but they need to find a way to push through that and bring more dynamism. I felt they should have been 4th.

Pham/Spiridonov: "Ghost???"
:scream: Nice flow, but easiest holds and most inconsistent spacing of all these teams.

Hensen/Lickers: Great rotational lift and interesting positions but lacking speed, and seemed like they were thinking through the choreography throughout.

Pate/Bye: 4th in the FD for this sloppy mess? That puts death in my soul. Her sloppy, unpointed feet drive me bonkers. I feel like they recycled that final lift the last 3 or 4 seasons now. Good energy, but I definitely wasn't buying what they were selling.

i legit shut the window after a few seconds of the vocal adagio because i decided i didn't hate myself enough to sit through that more than necessary this season i gotta pace myself

Well there was the option to mute the sound and still watch. Which is probably what I should have done for the Peals, but my masochistic streak prevailed.
