LA County Fires / Palisades Fire

One of my former students worked with World Central Kitchen at refugee camps in Greece and Haiti. She didn't go there specifically to work with WCK, but WCK set up kitchens in the areas where she was volunteering. She has nothing but good things to say about Chef Jose and his crew - they were friendly, they worked hard, they didn't pull rank. They did what they came to do and did it graciously and humbly. Chef Jose was actually there in Haiti, and he was in the kitchen peeling potatoes and doing grunt work along with everyone else.

She saw a lot of other organizations that were mostly there to promote themselves and/or that wasted the money that had been donated to them.

I would not hesitate for a second to donate money to WCK for its work in Los Angeles.
WCK basically made life possibly in the first couple months here in Swannanoa, NC after Helene. In fact they are still here.

Please donate to them. They are beyond worthwhile.

Devastating story to read, and it’s playing over thousands of times. I’m glad he and his wife and his cats made it out safely at least.

Explosive Hughes Fire shuts down I-5 in Los Angeles County, forces evacuations

California Highway Patrol shut down the freeway through the Grapevine in both directions on Wednesday afternoon for an “unknown duration,” warning of heavy traffic impact on Highway 101 and State Route 126.

The blaze, located off Lake Hughes Road near Castaic Lake in northern Los Angeles County, prompted mandatory evacuation orders for approximately 19,000 nearby residents, according to Cal Fire. As of 4:05 p.m., the fire was 0% contained.

:yikes:

The Grapevine is the portion of Interstate 5 over the Tehachapi Mountains, connecting Los Angeles with the Central Valley.

OMG, Hubby and I just drove on 5 this past Saturday and Sunday. We went down to check up on the Baby Girl to make sure she’s all good and set up a “go” bag in case of emergency. Yikes!
