And Inga continues her climb up the standings.

Her score would have been good enough for bronze at the first 3 JGPs, 4th at the next 2, and 6th last week. We'll see how well it holds up this week, but she's already climbed to 7th at the worst.

Reminder that ladies who won their first event (Kim and Wang) only need to finish top 4 to make JGPF. Nakai and Takagi with 13 points have to finish top 2 to control their destiny and guarantee JGPF. Any 13 + 11 result puts in a score total tiebreak with Gladki.

Wow, Von Felten didn’t even crack 100 on the free skate and will end up 13th most likely.

I ❤️ Sophie Joline, but the USFS looks foolish for jumping on the bandwagon so quickly and causing so much chaos over nothing.

I also question the wisdom of rearranging her trained program to try the 4S when she has to already be exhausted.

Learning experiences here all around. And I hope Mia Kalin gets a very nice reward for being a screwed out of a spot.

Yup - I'm rooting for Inga to disrupt that and get Gladki into the Final, lol.

Hwang

Fall on opening 3f and 3r, lands 2a-3t combo, nice choreo sequence with spread eagle in besti squat and leaning back position, too many errors to contend today

The USFS was in a low-win situation after last Saturday. Either they stick to their original plans and not give her a chance to qualify for the JGPF - which would have drawn valid criticism given the sorry state of our jr women on the JGP so far this season - or they give her the shot and things go poorly because of all the reasons you pointed out this wasn't likely to turn out well, or maybe they go well and Sophie qualifies (or at least acquits herself well). I can't blame the USFS for taking the risk here - again, it's not as if the rest of our jr women are lighting the world on fire - and Kalin certainly hasn't done that yet during her 5 previous JGP assignments over the course of the last 3 seasons.

I do agree that there was a very questionable coaching choice in having her go for the 4s - especially after the wonky landing on the opening 3a - of course, it could have been sheer stubbornness on the part of the skater and it's a certain learning experience for her regardless of whether or not the 4s attempt was sanctioned by the coach or not.

FYI - I'm okay with any other skater playing spoiler to the top 4 and getting Stefania into the JGPF. Jin is lovely enough - very tiny out there on the ice but she's going to put up a big score here.

In general, I’m fine with Von Felten getting the second JGP because she earned/deserved it after her first event. However, that conflicts with my belief that assignments should be procedurally fair and since Kalin had already been officially assigned, she shouldn’t lose her assignment because of something another skater does.

I don’t think being here and skating worse necessarily hurt Von Felton, but I do think USFS has a lot to make up to Kalin.

Jin

Really laid it down, very good tight rotation position in the air in her jumps, good spins, light and delicate

Jin's score - good enough for silver at JGPs 1-3 & 5, bronze at JGP 4, 4th last week.

Wang

3r-2t with loose legs on toe in air, 3f-2t, 3s, solid basics, think she could be more expressive in the face, and I personally prefer jump layouts which includes 3-3 rather than 3-2a-2a. Clean skate!

Kim

3a lands nicely, 3f held, 3z-3t, spins out of 3r, just realized she’s trying to earn Korea’s only spot in junior women’s final—now that’s a change from their recent years’ performances, she’s getting the elements done, not a lot of interpretation

Yuseong leaves me cold as a viewer. She's certainly going to make the JGPF with this performance here, but I'm completely indifferent to her.

It’s all very pleasant. There isn’t sharpness and there isn’t softness, it’s in the pleasant, but not particularly memorable, middle.

Fall for Yo on the 3z mid-way through the program - TES is way below the top 3 women and I think that's going to end her JGPF dreams.

Takagi

Opening well with hit combinations, fall on 3z, good interpretation of a piece that’s a little darker, better basics and her choreography is going somewhere, ought to win PCS, but TES score was lower

I think the two most musical Japanese juniors this year were Uezono and Takagi and they both won’t be in the Final. :(

Nakai - ohhhhh - she's pulling a Sophie Joline from last week! 3a+3t followed by a 3a! Let's see if she can keep it up through the rest of the program!

Does this competition set a record for most triple axels attempted (and landed?) at a women's international event?

Nakai

Fantastic 3a-3t to open, followed by 3a, 3z-1r-3s, could work on finishing the leg line in her landing position, wonderful basics and soft knees, came to compete today!

Good for Ami!

Ted says that both of her 3As are marked q on review, but this is still going to win given her lead from the SP.
