Gymnastics #24 - The Road to Paris

Honestly, I know it’s an honor to be a traveling alternate, but it’s kind of brutal every year to send them out and have them stand with the people who made the team knowing they were so close
Shane looked so sad. It's got to be tough to finish ahead of guys who made the team and to be so close under the selection criteria. When he finished, he had to think he had a great chance.

I think Khoi knew he wasn't going to make it.

The script for this announcement is so cringe
This whole announcement process is cringe. Which is why I'm happy for the figure skating team to just get a text message rather than put them and their families through public drama. (I remember they tried a big announcement of the 2014 men's team at the gala and then the sound didn't even work....big fail.)

Like others have said, the BOW criteria means most of the skaters will know going in anyway, and the rest will be pretty sure after Nats comp ends. Just publish the names online and we can cheer for them at the gala.

The selection committee chose him. Blame them.

I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with the idea of people blaming anyone. I literally said like 5 minutes ago that no one has a personal problem with him or is “hating” on him.

A computer chose him. I think the selection criteria were wrong. I’m allowed to think that. It’s all gonna be OK.

Oh good, we have Brody here to tell us how he is God‘s favorite again.
Okay, can we lay off the criticism of ANY athlete who chooses to thank God for their success? It is so incredibly difficult to compete at the elite/pro level in ANY sport - the physical injury and pain, the discipline, the dedication and commitment to reaching a level very few are capable of... If an athlete wants to share with us, in their moment of glory, gratitude for the emotional/mental/spiritual support that their faith has given them in achieving something really remarkable... Just respect it. Let it be. Be happy for them.

And with all the shit going on in the world, that God cares more about a sporting event.

I always want to be like “there are children dying. Why is God worrying about your sport career so hard?”
That's not the way to look at this. At least, it's not the way I look at it.

The God I was raised to believe in is omnipresent, omniscient, and all-powerful. Why would you think that God CAN'T care about all the worries and troubles in the world? I really don't understand why anyone is so intent on tearing down and criticizing anyone else for having such strong faith.

You’re right. I have an aversion to organized religion that colors my view.
