Initial thoughts - who the heck knows who gets picked for Euros 2025 - probably Tallinn, lol. Guessing that Beijing is in the lead position to be selected for 2027 Worlds even though the Chinese fans don't seem to care about skating or attending competitions - I'd pick Dortmund or Kaunas. And I'd bet that Kaunas is in a good position for either 2028 Euros or Worlds. They want MORE!

And that is an interesting thing to note about Japan not bidding for 2027 or 2028 - maybe they're planning on going for 2029 Worlds?

2029 Worlds is the prize, and it would make sense if Japan waiting until then, since they're pretty much guaranteed to get it if they want it.

Well, they'll see if the prices are reduced by then.

I'm guessing it'll be in the lead because it's an Asian worlds, and the Japanese Worlds as the first Worlds of the cycle doesn't seem to be an option? Which means there'll be plenty Japanese and Korean fans.

Probably not? I was just thinking about the places most likely to attract fans from outside the country. I think you are correct that Beijing is the front-runner, since 26 and (it looks like) 28 Worlds will both be in Europe.

Yeah, the only reason I could see Beijing being passed over is because China is also bidding for 2027 4CCs. It would be nice if another country could step up and put a bid in for that (lookin' at you, Canada or Korea).

I feel like Kaunas deserves a Worlds after the great Euros they hosted in short time, at the same time I wan´t different locations.

As for Euros 25, I hope for Sofia because they will stick with the original date. I really dislike the date Tallinn suggest, I would rather have Gdansk host early in January or for it to be so late. If Gdansk gets Euros 28 I think Sofia is the best option.

Malmo is really sweet: you can take light rail from Copenhagen. I stayed in the City Center near the train station, and there was plenty of transport from the city center to the Malmö Isstadion, which Wikipedia says holds 5800 and was renovated in 2012-13. Malmö Arena is listed as 12.6K for sports, and Google Maps says transit from the Malmo Central Station is 8m and runs frequently.

I don't even know which city do I want more - Tallinn was gorgeous in 2022 and the organization was fab. Gdansk was cute during the summer, am sure it will be magical in the winter. Sofia is not my favourite city but Bulgaria is certainly my softest spot.

Russians don't need a visa to travel to Turkey.

Are Israelis allowed to visit Turkey? I believe there are regional conflicts that could cause travel for skaters from the Caucasus Mtns nations too. I also know that Turkey's government had issues with both Finland and Sweden joining NATO due to concerns about those countries allowing some of the supporters of those eastern Turkish separatist movements safe harbor. I'm not sure it would be a problem for most skaters from either Sweden or Finland but you never know.

I'd guess that if they'd put forward Istanbul as their bid they'd have a greater chance of being selected.

Oh right, I was thinking wrong. That is good news, maximum 3 years in a row makes it more possible for European cities to get it. Having my fingers crossed.

As for Euros 25 in Turkey, I´m skeptical because of the reasons that is mentioned from others, and i´m also wondering if there will be much audience.

It's been a while since China's hosted worlds. I think they have a strong case because the last Asian worlds will have been in 2023 by then, and them hosting all their events without hitch last season (and I expect that will be the case for the remaining competitions they've bid for this quad).

And on that note, I hope South Korea bids for Worlds instead, in 2029/2030. We always have one Worlds + one GPF in Japan per cycle. It's good to see a break in tradition with 2027 Worlds not being bid by Japan. Hopefully they'll take some other country for the pre-Olympic GPF too. Japan can do something else, like 4CC.

The ISU Council met on June 15-16, 2024 and decided to allot or provisionally allot the following ISU Championships
