There is NO question that Ilia deserves the gold ... his technical prowess is phenomenal and I applaud him for that. He's very young; and, in time, he may (most likely, will) develop the artistic side of his skating to equal the tech content. At the moment, he doesn't stir the emotional reaction in me that Kevin (and some others) do but there's no denying his brillance. Absolutely extraordinary. Congratulations, Ilia.

That 2nd quad lutz was just ridiculously good. So much height. Ilia just landed so easily into the Euler/3sal combo. And then how he just steps into that 3axel and lands with no speed in or out. Shouldn’t get great GOE, but it’s impressive, massively impressive.

Ilia has definitely worked on his expression and commitment. After seeing Kevin, Ilia’s never going to be an artist, but he doesn’t have to be. Nathan certainly wasn’t.
And, that trumps running on ice every single time.

This program really uses ilia's awkwardness to his advantage. I do think it comes across better in person than on screen.
Yeah, he’s got that long, lean, angular look and movement, and you said that well. I should’ve driven up to see it in person.

Sorry, but I don't think it's brilliance when it's just the jumping that's giving him mega points.

Time to limit the number of quads per program or lessen their point value, to "encourage" skaters to pay attention to other things. Sorry, but other than looking less gawky, I don't see a lot of improvement in Ilia's skating in the elements that aren't jumps.
Let’s just make it dance and they can skate around and look pretty.

There are ways to encourage this without limiting the jumps.

If we make it less of a sport, that will probably make sure that even fans watch 😂

He IS paying attention. Look, he's a technical phenom who is now working hard on other things (his spins are already great). I can see a significant difference even between his first competition and here. And he's only 18, and the family is obviously aware that he needs to continue to work on them. If there's a problem, it's that the judges are not creating an appropriate spread on the presentation marks. But then Kevin should get dinged for a pretty empty 2nd half program when he runs out of gas.

No 10's for Kevin, and the 3S got no under call? Weird. It looked way short and landed forward to me. All clean jumping passes for Ilia.
I know they were looking at some of his jumps but maybe they were scared of the rabid crowd idk. Deniss had like every pass reviewed once again, but I don't care he had such ease of movement and charisma. It was a great program, much better then o thought it would be.
