Gymnastics News #23: Defying Gravity

Roethlisberger is going in on the judges for taking too long to get scores (in this case, for Ellie Black) as Andrade stands on the sideline and waits to do her routine. He said by the third time of seeing the same routine (this week), they should be able to get scores in faster by now. Of course, it doesn't mean the same thing is going to happen each time nor are the same connections/elements going to be done.

D Amato with a fall as well - truly this is a spectacular opportunity for Neymor with the hardest bars and beams behind her without (big) mistakes for a surprise bronce medal

And after the long wait, Andrade nails bars anyways.

ETA- they just said it was over TEN minutes to wait for her start while they determined Black's score.
I can't watch the livestream, but do they still make the athlete stand around and wait on the podium while the officials and judges discuss/argue over the last gymnast's prospective scores? I feel like after like 3 mins. or whatever, they should allow the gymnast to step off the podium as the officials continue doing their thing.

Yep, she had to stand on the podium, although I think they did say she got to go rechalk the bars.

So most of the people who were expected to fight for bronze fell or withdrew. Nemour and Qui are hanging in there, but I don’t thing they have the same scoring potential on floor & vault as what Jones has on Floor & beam.

Beam is still the scariest event, but with the way uneven bars has progressed, it's become such a do-or-die event as well.
The one time I went to Nationals, where did I sit? Right in front of the balance beam. I was alternately nauseated and felt my heart in my mouth. Like the high bar with its high flying release moves, I'm inclined to agree with you on the latter as well.

She may still get silver as I'm not sure if Shi Jones can score over a 13.834 on FX to keep her lead over Andrade.

Really nice job for Alice Kinsella, who went 4/4 despite very short notice (minutes?) that she would be competing after Gadirova's withdrawal.

Just dawned on me that the neckline on the USA leo today reminds me of Sasha Cohen’s 2010 FP dress LOL. Been wondering all afternoon what it reminded me of.
