Now his smug self-righteous face is all over my SM feeds. That smirk is going to be gone in no time. Sick dirt-bag scum.

I totally agree but that has nothing to do with whether she was in court today.Maybe if they hadn't enabled him when he was 14 things would be different.

She seems to have found it easy enough to look away when he abused four of her daughters.Listen, I am the first to criticize this family, but I give her a pass on this. She might have found it too hard to watch.
Indeed. We know that. As I’ve said, I can understand her not attending the sentencing. She seems to have found it easy enough to look away when he abused four of her daughters.
Mrs. Vuolo characterizes her current church in Southern California as very different than the environment she was raised in. The church, Grace Community Church, is led by John MacArthur, a popular pastor known for his rigorous preaching style, his opposition to “superstitious” charismatic theology and, more recently, his resistance to keeping his church closed in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic.
The church is conservative on issues like homosexuality, gender, and women in church leadership. Christianity Today reported this week that leaders at the church repeatedly advised women to avoid reporting their abusive husbands and fathers to authorities, and instead to forgive and submit to them.
The church plays a large role in Mrs. Vuolo’s family’s life. Her husband leads a Bible study group for college students and is employed by a seminary affiliated with the church, the Master’s Seminary, where he is working on a doctorate of ministry. “Becoming Free Indeed” credits a ghostwriter named Corey Williams who is the seminary’s chief communication officer.
“This is what people won’t like about this story,” said Austin Duncan, director of the seminary’s MacArthur Center for Expository Preaching, who knows the Vuolos well. “They still have a standard of authority that’s outside of themselves.”
Coverage of the book in the evangelical press has been largely favorable, with many noting Mrs. Vuolo’s distinction between “disentangling” and deconstruction.
Mr. Duncan and his wife have counseled Mrs. Vuolo as she has settled into a life in California. Mrs. Vuolo stays home with her young girls for now, volunteers with the church and often hosts college students from her husband’s Bible study at their home.
This summary cracked me up. It's true too. She's traded one authoritarian fundamentalist religion for a slightly less authoritarian fundamentalist religion that lets her wear pants. Gift link to the article.
It's like the heat has turned from high down to medium.I won't say Jinger has gone from the frying pan into the fire, exactly, because her previous situation was so bad. I'll just say that she hasn't gotten out of the frying pan. I hope someday she can.
Jill and Jessa wear pants tooShe's traded one authoritarian fundamentalist religion for a slightly less authoritarian fundamentalist religion that lets her wear pants. Gift link to the article.
Baby steps.MacArthur is the worst. He and his groupies are downright cultish. One of those groupies of his became the pastor at the church I used to attend. I'd been at that church for 30 years -- his disturbing views and narrowmindedness drove me out.

Even Jana has been seen wearing pantsJill and Jessa wear pants tooAnd Jill seems to have made more of a break with her upbringing than the rest of them.
Christianity Today has an article about this, too. I also read a thread on Twitter where David French had commented on this; some of the replies he got wereSpeaking of John MacArthur, it was Julie Roys who originally starting exposing the stuff Grace Community Church has done to women in awful or even abusive situations. The story of Eileen Gray is particularly troubling.

Doesn’t matter and they don’t care if it makes sense, it’s all about control.I can't stand the way some religions make up rules (mostly for women) that make no sense. Does their Bible dictate anything about women wearing pants? Or pushing out baby after baby? GMAFB
Oh, I know they do. I am just always shocked by it, because his approach to religious belief has always seemed to me to be principled, whether I agree with him or not. And Biblically speaking, Christians should be removing bad leaders and should be vigilant in protecting the flock, even from predators within.BTW, The Evangelical Christian hard-right/“theobros” HATE David French. They can’t comprehend how he is willing to have his conservatives views and understand his pragmatism for living in a diverse and pluralistic country. Never mind that French, with his work at the ACLJ, ADF, and FIRE, actually did more to defend religious and speech liberties than any of these “theobros” combined. ?
This thread says that Hohn Cho also called out Douglas Wilson, who is even worse than MacArthur. Way worse. Cho sounds like a stand-up guy. I'm just sorry he was stuck in that wretched church for so long, but then again, if he hadn't been, he wouldn't be able to give us all these firsthand accounts.
Meanwhile, it’s being reported that Josh Duggar is now in solitary confinement due to being caught with a cell phone. I believe Josh Duggar is specifically not allowed to have a cell phone or anything with internet access, even after he serves his prison sentence.
So I am watching this right now, and I just have to ask how Jill's husband Derick made it through the parent's censors??? I am sure they still live somewhat like how they were raised, but he's not at all what I would expect a Duggar to allow one of their daughters to marry. Also, Josh was creepy, entitled, and gross from the very beginning.
