Netflix/Prime/Hulu/BritBox Binge Watching: Coronavirus Edition

A friend of mine wanted to watch "Fall" on Netflix. I can deal with horror, blood, guts, gore, etc., but this may be the most terrifying movie I've ever watched. (Context: two women climb to the top of a 2000 foot / 600 m tower and get trapped there.) There were many points where I literally had to cover my eyes and look away. I became dizzy and disoriented, weak in the knees, my whole body was sweating, and I was drenched in cold sweat by the end of the movie. I think I had curled into a fetal position at one point.

I'm not afraid of heights per se (planes, skyscraper windows, lighthouses, high enclosed spaces are all fine), but I don't deal well with unenclosed high spaces. I've never had such a physical reaction like this before.

If you're sensitive to heights, I would recommend either AVOIDING this film, or watching it if you like to be terrified. I'm tempted to watch it again and see if I can use breathing exercises or similar to try to get over this phobia.

I likely wouldn’t do well either with that movie. my worst fear is the thought of parachuting. The thought of jumping out into nothing. Never happening.

I'm really enjoying this. I loved the book, and while there are changes (why did they axe one band member? In the book they really are 6), the spirit is true, and the songs are fantastic.

I did start watching will finish later. I didn’t’t have the same physical reaction as you but I used some fast forwarding (coping techniques) on Netflix. I do understand how you feel though.

It also doesn’t help reminding yourself it’s a MOVIE too lol.

I watched a few episodes of Triptych on Netflix, but couldn't get into it. I was looking for something else to watch, so I watched the first episode of Daisy Jones. I really liked it, but I do want to be able to binge watch it. I don't know if I'll be able to hold out. They're going to dribble out the new season of Ted Lasso, too. I was going to try to wait until all the episodes are out for that one, too, but may not make it.

Idk if anyone watched Lenox Hill on Netflix which is a docuseries that follows 4 doctors at that hospital but Netflix is releasing a spinoff docuseries on March 29th called Emergency NYC. Lenox Hill IMO is a great docuseries and even has an episode that was added at the end that follows the doctors through the worst part of COVID at that hospital. I'm very excited about Emergency NYC coming out.

2-4 are excellent IMO. I won't expand lest I say something to spoil them.

I watched seasons 1 and 4 because I wanted to watch season 4 specifically because of the setting.

I would say it is worthwhile on plot merits. And sad. Because I skipped ahead, I've been partly spoiled for season 3. I don't feel a strong need to watch those middle seasons.

Has anyone watched "The Undeclared War" on Peacock? I watched it on a recommendation from a friend on Facebook and enjoyed it. I think it's only six episodes and I planned to binge watch them all once I decided I liked the series, but we lost internet here for a day (storms) and so only watched three episodes and had to wait to get internet back before finishing the series. It's kind of uncanny that this series, clearly filmed before Russia attacked Ukraine, seems prescient. I know nothing of cyber warfare or coding so it's probably totally ridiculous, but I was engaged.

I was reading an obituary yesterday on songwriter Hank Beebe who did some work for industrial musicals and it reminded me of the documentary Bathrubs Over Broadway that I watched on Netflix a couple of months ago. It focused on one man’s obsession with the industrial musicals that flourished in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, and profiled this genre that I never knew existed. I found it light and entertaining.

Has anyone else been watching Amazon Prime’s The Consultant? It’s a new comedy thriller series that stars Christoph Waltz. I decided to give it a try because I have generally really liked Waltz in the movies he’s been in - he’s a two time Oscar winner from Inglorious Bastards and Django Unchained.

So far, it’s pretty interesting - although it goes kinda slow, though I think that’s typically of TV comedy thrillers. I think this is his first American TV series.

She was the bright spot in the one episode I watched. Sam Clafin looks way too old to be playing the young rocker. I just wasn’t feeling most of the characters. I’m also not big on musical shows unless I absolutely love the music.

It is pretty much agreed on by experts to be murder suicide. When I saw that it was going to be conspiracy theories I decided not to watch. I sm a big Mayday (air crash investigations)fan and in all of our groups no one wants to see this one
