We can't ever dismiss ESTA's predictions.
FORTH!!! lol

I remember there was like three big Pasha stans here, but now I can't remember the third.... ESTA, dancer and who? I remember wondering if they were the pseuds of the same person or not.

I'm 36 and I was posting on skating message boards as early as 1996 via AOL boards

Off topic, but this isn't far off from my recollection of AOL:

This forum on top says its celebrating 21 years, but that cannot be right. I feel like FSU is older than that.

I remember joining FSU sometime in 2002, no later than 2003, partly because a shirtless PJZ was the banner image. :saint: :grope:

Skatefans, sigh. Was thinking of it at SA because I saw @Sylvia there and remembered that she, @Louis and Lori Gottleib were the first online fans I met in real life, at Liberty’s predecessor event.

It made me remember Ben Currie and Dave Forberg, both of whom died too young. And that I had no idea what a listserve or message board really was or how it functioned, but I found Skatefans somehow in its UDel days and that was that. How much time I’ve spent there and FSU for 27 years or so I don’t dare calculate.

And I’m really tired of people not admitting that D/W were a terrific team whose OGM dances were stellar.
I subbed to Skatefans in 2002 after SLC and while I never posted, I argued with David Forberg in my head. Very sad when he unexpectedly died.

I had no idea that Ben Currie also died. He was one of the few still trying to post regularly on Skatefans at the time I left.

I knew him IRL briefly. He was the fiercest opponent of IJS. I don’t remember exactly when he passed, some time in the mid 00s.

And don't forget Sandra Loosemore!
Frogs on Ice! Basically the only place to get detailed competition reports and analysis from distant competitions along with Sandra's detailed analysis.

I liked RSSIF until it went to hell in a handbasket.

David was so different IRL. I remember several fun dinners with groups at various events. Esta, now....

Trudi is the very reason we have the word 'chack' to extend to any kind of telecast skipping someone or something, IIRC.
What an iconic legacy! Definitely the grand damme of RSSIF.

I was curious and quickly browsed onto google groups, and that deranged/dedicated Tonya Harding stan is still writing "The Portlandian" with the same ASCII logo, just as it was still 1996. Take note, Fanyus--that's how you prove your dedication.

For those interested, the latest "issue" details Tonya's upcoming appearance at the Wild Hare Saloon in Oregon City as part of The Brew 105.9 FM's "Bacon and Beer" event.

Plus, it’s Marina. If Dai and Kana want to skate to something “original”, they’re going to have to do a Shibs and start coming up with their own themes (and music and outsource the original choreography before Marina edits it). Since Dai is still relatively new to ice dance, they’re probably choosing certain pieces for the FD with that in mind.
Actually it was Kana who chose the music for the RD while Dai chose POTO.

Not surprising considering his love for Meryl 😄
No, he chose that because he had already skated it back in 2007 (his first medal at Worlds and in his home country) and he always wanted to skate to that again some day. Or so he said.

Incidentally, if KanaDai were to end up going to Worlds next year, it would be the first time in 16 years for Dai to compete in Worlds in front of his home crowd, with the same music but in another discipline.
I think this probably had something to do with the choice.

That and Marina wanted to take advantage of Dai's skills as a performer and charisma, and POTO is just perfect for that.

I've been asking why she threw V/M under the bus in 2014 for some time also. I'm yet to receive a response.
I was about to answer that but saw the response already given that I would have given. In addition as her son was dating Meryl seriously she might have been envisioning some sort of coaching collaberation with Meryl and Charlie which would bring larger load of clients. That obviously did not come to pass as neither have much to do with her professionally. I sometimes wonder why. Did they suspect what was going on?

Whoa. I never even stopped to think about that. Seeing her practically destroy Igor made that choice really easy for them. Period. IMHO.

Guignard/Fabbri's season-long battle to not be shoved off the World podium for Fear/Gibson begins.
I truly have already let my feelings on this be known - but please bring back the pattern because I don't think a team who a) celebrates not having to learn a pattern and b) can't skate a pattern when required should not be put onto the worlds podium because they choose pop music every year

I actually think, after today's RD, that GuiFab are in trouble. Next week's going to be realllly interesting.
I agree, I would have given today's lead to FB/S. It's the levels that usually help G/F and today they had the same BV as FB/S who I felt out performed them on every element.
I also expect G/P to score way lower at Espoo, their scoring at Skate Canada was beyond generous (same thing happened with them last season).

I want the pattern to come back too but I don't think it's fair to say that they celebrate its removal. When asked they say they are not sad to see it gone since Lewis only switched to dance at a late age which means he never learned the patterns and has to learn each one when it's decided and obviously it puts them at a disadvantage.
I truly want to see the return of the CD, it feels essential for juniors but also for seniors to avoid a case like Lewis who never learned them and now has no reason to.

Sometimes I think that the reason why we haven’t had a waltz for the pattern in so long is because so few teams would be able to skate it :)
