Papadakis/Cizeron #10 - Waacking All The Way To Beijing

Sorry for the double post but it’s hard to copy and paste and edit on mobile. Anyway, that’s actually my favorite FD of theirs. I fell in love with it at the France GP and it’s probably my dream romantic FD. So many teams try to replicate that and I think that’s what H/D are trying to do with their FD but P/C are just on a different level. Honestly, I can watch them skate to just “Duet” all day. I loved their entire demeanor, their package, and their look throughout that dance. It was simple but free and light. It’s one where I see them just dance.

This. I've been rewatching Duet and Moonlight Sonata the most during this year and as much as I love all their dances, those two are probably my favourites. The music choice, theme, choreography, costumes... still remember the excitement when they announced they were going to skate to Duet...
I'm curious to see the fd at Europeans (I guess they'll be there if everything goes according to plan) after all the modifications tried out the first half of the season, to see how it all comes together... and until then, Merry Christmas. :)

Episode 7 of On Edge is here! Unfortunately even experienced interviewer Lilah Fear can't make the 'conversation' with Guillaume on their terrace/s flow naturally, but I'm still really impressed that the series stepped right up and discussed that Russian judge/ex-judge's comments after Finlandia Trophy and the ISU's formal response. Not only because it needed to be said in general but because it takes some of the unspoken undercurrents in the ice dance world that P/C have to fight against every time they compete and makes them visible, and that can only be for the good for the Olympic competition and the sport as a whole.

That so many people can’t recognize that ice dance is a performance really puzzles me. Gay people can’t portray straight love, straights can’t portray romantic love yet be platonic in real life, siblings can’t tango or do dances with some sexual component…why are people so weird?

To what do you attribute that? Is Guillaume notoriously shy? Were they were supposed to act as if this was an impromptu conversation, but they were both self-conscious. Something else altogether?

Just the script/scenario requiring them to tell each other (in order to tell the audience) facts they already know perfectly well, like that they live next door to each other. That never comes off as natural. It would have flowed better if they'd been able to do it partly by speaking to the camera/viewer directly, but that's not the style the show has chosen, so lots of awkward 'As you know, Bob' dialogue it is I guess!

Oh, dear, that DOES sound bad.

I hope you have not forgotten to vote for Gabi and Guillaume on the facebook page of France Olympique (designation of flag bearers (a woman, a man). End of the public votes this Thursday, January 6
:cheer2::cheer2:

The FFSG has posted on Twitter that Gabriella and Guillaume have withdrawn from Euros to minimise their chances of catching C-19 and make sure they can go to the Olympics. Smart of them.
Well . I am disappointed that they won't be there as I was looking forward to seeing their programs and progress once more before the Olympics, but it is understandable. Here in the NYC area , Omicron has really taken off despite many people being vaccinated and boosted.

Same here. Not worth the risk. Did Tessa and Scott go to Four Continents before their last Olympic Games? Genuinely asking, I cannot remember.

Ah very understandable, given the evolving situation and the long trip they would need to take to get to Europeans, even though I was really looking forward to seeing their FD again before the Olympics. I do worry a little about their competition-readiness, if only because they sat out last Worlds, the GPF got canceled this season and they will not compete at Europeans, and they won’t be able to use the team competition at the Olympics as a warmup either.

I’m in Beijing now and the COVID situation is very much under control: there hasn’t been a single local case for two months and even before that, the highest number reported during occasional ”flare-ups” were in the single digits. The ticket arrangements are still under review but a friend’s workplace just sent out an email inviting people to enter a lottery for Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony tickets. If (and here’s hoping) they allow domestic audience to attend I’ll try my best to get tickets to the FD competition at least.

Unfortunately from what I've heard, I'm 99% sure that they won't sell tickets to the general public. Your friend probably works in public sector or for an official partner and tickets are given to them.

ETA:

How are the ones going to the Olympics practicing/training without seeing anyone?

I guess they mean not seeing anyone outside Gadbois?

You're yet another person I've seen saying this now... I wonder when they'll confirm it officially, if they will.

On the topic, I think P/C are safe. Their scoring has proved they are not in danger. I think they just need to be foot perfect in the SD, since there's no chance they'll be in the final group anymore.

I think we'll see a VM at 2017 Worlds style score for them if they aren't in the final group (although with potential covid withdrawals who knows what the final group will look like!) - even if they make small mistakes.

Well, Goal#1 is also in danger with their withdrawal from Goal #3, I'm afraid.
I'm in billion depressions. They are so superior to Sinitsina&Katsalapov... Although I understand the risk of competing in Tallinn, it would have been precious for the Olympic title to regain the European Crown. :wuzrobbed

Yeah I kinda have to agree here and really, really hope it won't hurt them in the end. For the record, I understand their decision 100%. To be honest I've been expecting them to withdraw considering what they have said about the Olympic title being their sole big goal of the season and probably their whole career. Without a doubt the decision was really hard to make because I am sure they really wanted to go, regain their European title, get some international competition and hopefully (likely) already beat S/K before heading to Beijing.

Now instead they will have to go to Beijing without having competed internationally in 2.5 months and with S/K as the newly crowned European champions, now twice. (Well, if they show up and are able to compete.) It is far from ideal but without a doubt they still considered this a smaller risk than possibly catching omicron on their trip to Tallinn.

:(

I don't know. The paranoid fan in me is so desperate to see them as OGM that I have the same fears, but at the same time Sinitsina& Katsalapov have looked so poor this year that I can't even be sure they'll be on the podium.
