SUV plows through parade in Wisconsin

Some reported-but-unofficial info on the three suspects (2 detained, including driver + a 3rd man, still at large). They may have been fleeing a knife fight. Any way one sees this, horrible.

Additional details coming out on why that suspected vehicle was fleeing. Interesting but it won’t bring back the dead or heal the injured.

If that information holds, here's what will be focused on to politicize this I'd say:

"Brooks is a career criminal with multiple priors and was released from jail two days prior to the incident after posting a $1,000 bail for three misdemeanors and two felonies."

The Washington Post confirms most of the information. Man in custody was at a knife fight when police showed up, he smashed into the Christmas parade as he fled in the SUV. He has many previous convictions.

No words. Such hideously needless loss of life and trauma for so many.
 
@Frau Muller where is your source for the claim that he rapped about mowing people down?

I listened to that whole horrible song and thanks to captions saw the lyrics. It is typical of the genre and describes a lot of crimes, but I didn't see anything about mowing people down.

This seems to have been a horrifyingly stupid, impromptu tragedy as opposed to a planned massacre.
 
This from Fox News - all verified from state and county records.

"A background check from Wisconsin's Department of Justice came back with over 50 pages of charges against Brooks stretching back decades. In 1999 he received his first felony conviction for taking part in an aggravated battery – for which he received three years of probation, records show."

He was let out on bail of $1,000.00 on November 11th.

My question is this: Why in the world would this heinous criminal out of jail for $1,000? He should never have seen the outside world except through a window?

There is always going to be bad and good people regardless of skin colour, upbringing etc.

There are closing arguments in that trial today with those two horrible, horrible white men that murdered that young black man. I’ll be very upset if they are not found guilty.

But I have no sympathy for this guy either. Mowing down innocent kids and people is ???.
 
The driver will be charged with five counts of first degree intentional homicide, according to the New York Times.

Darrell E. Brooks, a 39-year-old Milwaukee man, faces five counts of first-degree intentional homicide after authorities said he drove a red S.U.V. into a Christmas parade on Sunday, killing at least five adults and injuring more than 40 others, including more than a dozen children.

The dead ranged in age from 52 to 81, Dan Thompson, chief of the Waukesha Police Department, told reporters on Monday.

Mr. Brooks steered the S.U.V. through barricades, ignoring the warnings of officers posted to protect the parade, moments after leaving the scene of a domestic disturbance, Chief Thompson said.

Wisconsin does not have a hold without bail statute. The DA says he wants to set the bail so high that there is no way he can make bail. This is the reason behind my statement.

I am simply unwilling to fall into excusing/justifying his behavior because he he was oppressed.

And, my reference to Judge Schroeder (The Rittenhous Case Judge) didn't pull any punches. I think he would have locked the guy up forever.

It doesn’t justify BUT we don’t know the degree of discrimination & oppression that the suspect experienced throughout his life because of the color of his skin. The anger wells up. What drove him to that string of crimes, culminating in the knife fight and, soon after, plowing through the Christmas Parade?

It was very interesting that most cable-TV went quiet on the entire parade story as soon as the suspect was identified by police in the early afternoon. No longer fit a political narrative? Funny how media decides when to pull the plug on stories or skew things.

I think the media are generally crap, because it's all about making money and sensationalism... so I'm quite OK when they move on from a local tragedy like this. So many of these types of events get so much coverage, just repeating the same videos and the same details over and over. I'm OK with moving on. Report the facts, then move on. There are so many pressing things to cover that impact more people.

I don't think they have moved on but there is likely little to report now. There is also another big trial that has just finished closing arguments.

The more I read into his background, the less I can go with the “oppression against blacks” story. He’s run over and/or tried to strangle the mothers of his children? Fifty pages of past crimes, since 1999?

And this dude had the audacity to make rap videos, with the maroon SUV proudly displayed… ”Math boi” was the stage name. The one linked above was just the one that I found; others, with far more incendiary words, we’re reportedly taken down by YouTube even before his name was revealed at the police presser.
