... is Paul Rudd!

He's definitely a good looking guy, and isn't afraid to make fun of himself. And is one of those actors that seem genuinely nice and unproblematic. He ticks all the boxes - older people like him while younger ones do too. He's done indie films, rom coms, and is a Marvel superhero.
While people definitely have their favourites that they'd want chosen, it's pretty hard to argue with this one (unlike Blake Shelton from a few years ago)

If they’re going to continue to do this, it would be nice if they stopped picking the same white guy over and over again. I like Paul Rudd but how about a different type of man for once?

Except the previous three winners were men of color  and I don't think Paul Rudd looks like Channing Tatum or Johnny Depp, particularly.

2020 was Michael B Jordan
2019 was John Legend
2018 was Idris Elba
2016 was Dwayne Johnson
1996 was Denzel Washington

They have to accept it though - apparently both Ryan Gosling and Leonardo DiCaprio (at his peak) turned it down a few times.

The person who is on the cover is almost always promoting something (Paul's Apple TV series 'The Shrink Next Door' comes out Friday). There could be people of other colours included though. If Shang Chi was a fall/winter release, I could have seen Simu Liu on there, though they likely wouldn't want to go for someone so 'new'. Or maybe Lin Manuel Miranda since he directed Tick Tick Boom which comes out Friday, and he also did the music for Encanto which comes out this month. Javier Bardem has Being the Ricardos out in December.

I'm definitely not angry about Paul Rudd though. People Magazine caters to the 'minivan majority' (suburban, white, middle-class moms) and he completely fits their key demographic, and is a better choice than Blake Shelton, who also fits that demographic.

Thinking about potential POC to take the title next year, I'm looking at 2022 movie/tv releases. Whoever gets the title will likely have something coming out in November/December:
  • John David Washington (an untitled David O Russell project coming out in November)
  • Chewitel Ejiofor (The Man Who Fell to Earth - no set date yet, just 2022)
  • Henry Golding is in the movie Persuasion coming out at some point in 2022
  • Dev Patel is the writer/director/producer/actor in Monkey Man (no set release date other than 2022)
  • Oscar Isaac has the series Moon Night coming out in 2022

Aside from more POC it would also be nice to see someone openly gay named as the SMA

Love him! He's the boy next door that you just can totally relate to. Plus, he's hot! Amazing genes!

Lewis Tan is a possibility ;) although he'd probably have to continue with big roles.

@screech those are all possibilities but I don't get the sense that those actors have as high-powered PR or management as many of the past winners. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like The Rock gets "chosen" again. He always has something to promote.

He’s a Kansas City guy and came back when the Royals were in a playoff a couple of years ago and had to come back to win. The reporter caught up to Paul celebrating on the field and he said “there’s a kegger at my Mom’s house!” He almost looked young enough to get away with that. He is well liked in KC. This might be my fave since JFK Jr way back when. He was gorgeous.

I agree. Paul is a pretty interesting choice. He doesn't tick the usual boxes for something like this. He's married, with children, and he's in his 50s, known more for being a funny guy than a sexy one. Plus, his "acceptance" of the title? Hilarious. I was almost crying I laughed so hard.

I wouldn't be surprised if John David Washington gets it, if not next year then sometime soon. If only so People could mention that they've had a father and son on their cover. Plus, he'd offer career diversity, as he was previously a pro football player too, so it's not just another handsome actor.

Also, if a POC is chosen as the new James Bond (Idris' name has been mentioned many times, and Dev has been brought up the last few years, since he had his 'glow up') I wouldn't be surprised to see them on the cover.
