Tarasova/Morozov Cheer Thread

I know this is a crazy idea but I will post it anyway.

I read in the Russia thread that Eteri is considering coaching pairs. what if she coached T&M? Their biggest problem is inconsistency. Eteri's students are the most consistent. Plus she has political power. She cannot teach them pair elements but she can teach them the mental game. That could reduce the responsibility Trankov would have to carry if he just works with them on the pair elements and not be the head coach.

The flip side of this is that Eteri is essentially a singles coach and she may not fit the pairs scene.

What kicked off her being interested in pairs is there are a lot of rumors right now that T/M are indeed switching to Sambo 70. Max would still be working with them and Marina would still do their choreo for next season.

T/M were with the rest of her group at a taping of some sort of talk show.

It’s not a crazy idea because this is probably about to happen.

I know Turandot is a workhorse music but Nessun Dorma is so powerful! I was thinking that T&M could skate to it Very effectively.

Turandot is one of my favorite pieces of music, but S/H used it in 2018. It’s one of those “don’t envoke the comparison” things. If S/H hadn’t used it for the last Olympics, it would be on my short list for T/M.

I forgot that S&H had used it. I do remember Shen & Zhao used it but that was long ago. S&H is too recent.

This is what got me thinking of Nessun Dorma for T&M.

Confirmed by RusFed today - Evgenia Tarasova - Vladimir Morozov in the Olympic season will prepare under the leadership of Eteri Tutberidze and Maxim Trankov:
Athletes will train in Moscow, in "Khrustalny", Evgenia Tarasova, as before, will represent Tatarstan, Vladimir Morozov - "Sambo-70".

They deserve some reward if they can overcome the nerves. Evgenia in particular looked petrified before the free skate at Worlds.

I wish Max would take up some other vocation he doesn't have the temperament of a good coach. Go back to being a commentator or something. He just doesn't instill calmness or confidence. In my mind he also comes across as a misogynist. He needs to retrain the way he thinks? Just a thought. They need a clean break from him.

I disagree. Max really cares about them. He is aware of his own limitations as a coach but he needed to fill a gap this season And he did a good job. T&M won the nationals.

Max has not coached for very long and it may or may not be his final goal in life but I see no reason for T&M to break up with him. They like him. I am sure they want Max and Sergei on their team. Eteri could be the head coach but these two can work on the technical details. Of course Marina is good for choreography. I hope she is still their choreographer.

I disagree that he is a misogynist. I see no evidence of it. They need Max to help them with the pair elements This year. I don't understand your hatred toward Max.

Max unquestionably cares about T/M very deeply on a personal level.

Another thought I had in this change is that if Eteri has an interest in them and thinks she can help them, then good. I still think a lot of t/m’s issues have their roots with Mozer. She held them back when they were younger (I think her plan was S/K in 2018, T/M in 2022 and she didn’t like it when T/M surged ahead). Then, she seemed to take it as a personal insult when T/M were 4th in Pyeongchang, called them uninteresting, and decided to stop coaching them. They were set adrift at a time some encouragement would have gone a long way.

In the Russia thread it says that Eteri and Trankov will be T&M's coaches. It doesn't say who the choreographer is. Is it still Marina? If they want someone in Russia, I hope it will be Averbukh. He did a great job on their SOS. Did he also choreograph Kolyada's LP this year? If yes, then I hope they will go to him. I like Marina but I don't think they want to travel frequently between Russia and Florida. May be she can go to Russia instead?

Eteri has so much power right now! Even Sasha Trusova returned to ET to improve her chances of making the Olympic team. Tuberidtze is becoming almost a brand name at this point. I think it is a smart move for T&M to move to Eteri. There is no other pair in that group at the moment, so they may even get more attention. I just want them to find a good choreographer. I hope Voronov will continue to work with them on the sbs jumps.

In pairs Moskvina is a much bigger name than Tuberidze, but I think it could still help T&M to have a successful coach with them.

Are T&M still going to Florida to work with Marina on their choreography or has it changed, now that they are in Eteri's group?

I think the only trip they’re making to Florida at some point is to take care of wrapping up things with housing and getting belongings to take them back to Russia.

If any of the Russian speakers want to tackle this, T/M did a long 40 minute interview about last season.

I don’t understand a word, but I’m amused by their matching outfits.

IG Live between Robin Szolkowy and Rosalia Stauffer, Director of KrigorStudio (May 12): https://www.instagram.com/tv/COyybaVhOgF/

At 33:30 (his most inspirational coaching moment so far) "Yup, I had one. The first Europeans with the Russian team [T/M] in Sweden 2015. By that time I was working a lot with them. In Russia... most of the skating sessions there were a bunch of coaches -- I would say like 6 or 7 -- every single session sitting on the bench and watching... They [T/M] were 4th or 5th maybe in Russia so nobody was really paying too much attention to them [Robin was #3 in the chain of command at the time and when T/M] became 3rd and they were so happy. I still remember as soon as they found out that they got a medal, they were running towards me. She was hugging me and he doing high five - this was a great moment. They really gave me that feeling, like 'Thank you.' I never have to hear that I am the best or it's just about you, never, but this little respect thing, I liked it" (chuckling).

At 36:00 (on T/M's switch to Team Tutberidze): "... Now they look more like a team but still missing the jumps, and I hope the new team can fix the jumps and just get them going. I think they need someone who is every day behind them and just kind of chasing them."

I just read the translation by TaHbKA. They had a very difficult year. After a lot of struggle it seems they have a good and stable environment- rink, ice time, coaches.

What really pleased me is that they said they had heard negative things about Eteri, but the truth was different. The mutual respect will definitely help them. I am sure they respected Marina. They made great strides with her, but the physical situation (Florida-Russia travel, sickness) became too difficult for them.

We will see how all this turns out but if this works I I hope they will continue past 2022.

I’d already gleaned they’d had a really rough time of it the last year, but I think it was even more rough than I thought. They have been through so much.

I also hope they stay past 2022. They need the time in a stable situation.

wow, you're not kidding. What an obstacle course of a season. And their switch to Tutberidze came about by their inability to find practice ice in Moscow! I'm still curious about Marina though - they hardly said a word about her. It sounds like the travel restrictions just killed that arrangement. It's a shame because they were really excited about working with her at first and got great programs from her. Choreography isn't exactly one of Team Eteri's strengths, or rather it's kind of iffy.

What a mess. It is all a mess IMO. I don't think there is a fair and just way to rank the skaters.

I agree about the choreography - Marina vs Eteri's. However, Eteri knows how to win, choreography aside. I wish Marina could stay involved and even travel to Russia a few times but I doubt it will work out. Eteri has her way of bringing up skaters. T&M are already a very developed pair. At this point I am just going to trust her instincts and Trankov's knowledge, plus T&M's knowledge.

Here is a possibly unpopular thought.

Suppose T&M keep the Albinone LP. The choreography is already done. So less pressure on their new coach who is really not a pairs coach, but she can make them consistent.

They can work on a new SP which would be less time consuming.

I know this is not what we want but it may be the easier way for them to handle pressure in the Olympic season.

After reading about what they went through last season, their win at the Russian nationals makes it even more impressive. No wonder Zhenya cried (tears of joy) so much when the scores went up. I think they were emotionally drained at that point and didn't have much left at worlds. Just my analysis.

If they had to keep a program, I'd rather see them go back to their previous LP (Ti Amo). That Kudaibergen version of Albinoni is interesting to hear once and once only IMO. But I wonder if it would be possible to redo the score as an actual Albinoni mashup, without vocals. Psychologically keeping the current LP could go two ways (at least) - the way you suggest, or it could be a downer for them to relive this season through that program, especially Worlds. Getting a new one could make all their hard work more exciting. They're going to be knocking themselves out no matter what programs they use - Eteri will see to that. (I'm not saying that as a criticism... I was very interested to hear their positive take on her. Tinami would have loved it!)
