Maybe I am being too optimistic considering we don't know anything about next season yet, but since skaters already did some announcements and are back on the ice in some countries, why not to have a thread to rant about their choices? ;)

Making up for lost time I'll just summarize everyone's reactions. :D

Those are wonderful selections, and skater(s) X will do a wonderful job with that music because it suits they're style/personality perfectly.

OMG, could they have picked worse music. How boring, and predictable and how does skater(s) X expect to be able to pull that off they couldn't have personality if someone dipped them in rainbow paint, and sparkles.

You left out: Japanese oriental dance sounds racist to me.

Lockley/Prochnow have a new SP by Rohene Ward. No music listed yet, but see her stories for a glimpse of choreography.

I'm hesitantly optimistic about Masquerade Waltz, but I always am about that piece of music...

But Alegria? Shae Lynn Bourne choreographing? I'm not sure what to think, but I'm thrilled someone is taking this music out for a spin.

Thanks for sharing about the programs and choreography! I'm glad that Evgenia worked with Shae Lynn on the choreography. To me, it will be very interesting to see Evgenia skating to the music, Alegria. I believe she made the perfect choice by going with Shae Lynn to do the choreography.

She's versatile and that made me think about Cindy Stuart regarding originality. Just like Cindy, Shae Lynn has her own style and doesn't just stick to the same dull routines.

I did a Google search about Cindy, and it brought up this page from Figure Skating Fandom:

Programs Choreographed by Cindy Stuart

The category was for music used in figure skating programs choreographed by Cindy Stuart. If I'm looking at it correctly, the search came up with 47 items; the music used in programs choreographed by Cindy Stuart.

I was hoping to find a wiki page about Cindy, but I did find an IMBd page on Cindy - Cindy Stewart - IMDb

She did choreography on Ronin in 1998, Skating With The Stars in 2010 and The Wizard of Oz On Ice in 1996.

The Google search I did also came up with a video I uploaded from the 1999 Improv-Ice with Robin Cousins and Cindy skating together. I believe I've shared that video here at FSU once before. I want to share it again because it shows off the many talents of both Cindy and Robin: 1999 Inprov-Ice - Cousins and Stuart

I don't know if Cindy still works with choreography. Maybe someone here at FSU has more info about Cindy, and I sure wish she still worked as a choreographer.💞

Re-posting here (from the various U.S. skater news threads):
Benoit Richaud did choreography via video for Nadya Labazina/TJ Nyman (music not yet known) as well as for Kate Finster/Balazs Nagy (SP music is "Lost Without You" by Freya Ridings), according to recent Instagram stories I saw.

Choreographer Randi Strong recently worked in person with Kayne/O'Shea on their FS to Carmen: https://www.instagram.com/p/CA_HDwcJugP/
Starr Andrews announced her SP music/theme in May: https://www.instagram.com/p/CAhDaXFJkUH/
... I will be portraying the role of not one, but two independent women superheroes for my short program this year: Black Canary and Harley Quinn. I’m skating to “It’s a Man’s Man’s World” and “Joke’s on You” from the movie, Birds of Prey.

Misha Ge tweeted a photo with Jimmy Ma and his SP music back in March: https://twitter.com/mishageofficial/status/1238612099338612736
"Come Together - Justice League (Music Retuned by Misha Ge)"

In April, Alex Krasnozhon shared a clip on his IG "two weeks before rinks shut down" and said he and Alex Johnson "were able to work and create my new short program. I’ll be skating to “Heart Upon My Sleeve” by Avicii and Imagine Dragons": https://www.instagram.com/p/B_LTlnfJuaw/

Artur Danielian's SP music last season was Belle Andalouse (from "Don Juan" soundtrack) by Felix Gray; Irina Tagaeva is listed as the choreographer in his ISU bio.

AFAIK, there is no confirmation there. His fan groups says the decision of replacing his SP will be decided later. His FP is a Middle Eastern theme.

Tagaeva also doesn't choreograph his programs. Nikita Mikhailov is his choreographer. And I will pull sources on that later.

ETA: per his own VK fan group

As for the short program, the situation is less clear: it is difficult to find a worthy replacement for the short last season, so this issue will be resolved later. Great opportunity to leave the past program.
He doesn't say he will keep it for sure. This was also stated on Russian forums that he was unsure about his SP, so I don't think anything was lost in translation.

- In the summer we had training camps in Sochi. They went well. We rolled in programs. We were engaged in a lot of physical training. It is very pleasant that the specialists noted Arthur Danielian’s programs. Put them by Nikita Mikhailov.

Also from Nikita's Instagram:
Artur thanks him for the programs (Don Juan and Gladiator) in the comments.
and his VK page
Arthur Danielian
SP - Don Juan (soundtrack) by Felix Gray

I wish they would put Nikita in Artur's profile as his choreographer. Somehow seems rude for Tagaeva to be credited with his work.

ETA:

Excerpted from @rosewood's 6/28 post: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...0-21-season-news-updates.107299/#post-5827144
During IG Live Yuhana Yokoi revealed musics of her new programs.
SP: Nandemonaiya (from anime Kimi no Na Wa) choreo by Akiko Suzuki

That is awesome! Thank you so much! I believe there are a lot of skaters out there that could benefit from working with Cindy Stuart on choreography!

A lot of skaters, particularly in the U.S., have been working with Cindy Stuart, AFAIK. She hasn't stopped choreographing. I never knew much about Cindy until I saw that initial clip of her skating with the inimitable Robin Cousins. But I have often seen and heard her name listed as a choreographer, without knowing her background and her prior competitive credentials. The more's the merrier, of course. Her name has been out there for years, but perhaps only skating insiders have been fully aware of her talent.

I'm thrilled someone is taking this music out for a spin.

Peng/Jin 'took it out for a spin' last season:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=docNjGMbMvM Botched camera work as usual (in the opening moments) :duh:

You left out: Japanese oriental dance sounds racist to me.

Racist?? You must mean 'cultural appropriation,' which does not mean the appropriators are 'racist.' :drama: As well, selecting music that's outside one's culture doesn't automatically equate to the negative connotations of 'cultural appropriation,' unless there's a lack of understanding and sensitivity in how the music and overall program concept are approached. Davis/White's memorable 'Bollywood' OD was fantastic and inspirational, while the dreadful tribal Aborigine take by another ice dance team many years ago, was dreadful, insensitive and embarrassing.

Alena Kostornaia fragment of FP

Music: ItsAMoney "Lovely", Galpe "Lovely", "Lovely" by Billie Eilish and Khalid
Choreo: Daniil G. and Eteri T.
This sounds like it has the potential to be even worse than P/C's Forest Blakk program, but at least they chose the best choreographers!

I love her but she seriously has questionable taste in programs (assuming she gets any say at all)

As of last year Alena has a big say in the choice of music. She picked the music and the theme for the last year's FS because "she had to be a vampire, loved the image of a foxy vampire, loved the film and the girl who played the role".. :D

She is past year's Gold winner of every event, except Silver at Nationals, so believe me - she gets to pick or have a say about music. Billie Eilish is VERY popular in Russia among teenagers and young adults..... Half a year ago she came to Russia to perform and became even more popular. Kids knew every word of her every song.

Zagi and Meda skated to her music, and now Alena may want to feel that "she has arrived" to the upper ranks... :D

I like this modern style for her. So much better than a typical lyrical ladies program.

In general, I agree with you. But the first "Lovely" sounds a lot like typical ladies lyrical snot. Plus, I can't really stand Billie Eilish. Not to mention the choreographers here. Other than that, however, I'm optimistic this will be a good program.

I agree that I’m not a Billie Eilish fan (I liked her maybe a year ago until I woke up and saw that every song is just her whispering). I think Alena’s so talented that she could make any program watchable but this seems very similar to last season’s program. Maybe it’s the kind of music Alena likes and that’s fine but I’d really like her to do something more refined to match the many qualities that she has.

I never liked her work. And seeing her perform on some late night tv show with her brother hovering in the background playing guitar creeped the heck out of me. I got some really bad vibes about that.

But I completely see her appeal to young girls. If we were still having local comps this summer, I would bet that programs done to her songs would rival programs done to Popular from Wicked in number. :D
