Say, LOL, I know it's 2 years away. But I just thought I'd bring this up. To all our Figure Skating Fans out there, I sure hope that they can come up with a vaccine for this virus going around before the Winter Olympics of 2022. So that all the skaters that qualify can compete safely. What do you all think?

And this is good, but a significant number are asymptomatic carriers that needlessly infect highly vulnerable persons with pre-existing conditions often times leading to unnecessary and untimely death. Are we saying these persons are just collateral damage? Would waiting a year would be unusual cruelty? Just checking.....

Not at all. Every death due to this virus is a tragedy. We all must be careful and I understand exactly what you are saying. And one truth of the statistics is that the majority of people do recover. I have no idea what that means for the future.
(Edit: I am in the over age 65 group so am taking this seriously but trying to keep some positive thoughts in the midst of this).

True, but I am just trying to hang onto something positive in this horrible situation. I am over age 65 so in that "risk" group just by age, so I stay informed by the science and what I need to do or refrain from to not contract or transmit the *******.

My solution is to have Olympic skating in July 2022 in Dubai, Phoenix, Reno or Las Vegas. They have enough venues and hotels. There is a reason why there are not many skating rinks in Africa, Caribbean and other hot countries. And there is also a reason why many European countries have skating in the autumn, winter and early spring and then they let the ice melt and there is no skating the whole summer. Keeping ice in the hot weather is very expensive, and if there is several thousand people sitting in the arena, it will be even warmer there. So they would need an arena with air conditioning otherwise the ice will melt.

I was also thinking about that. The US is in big trouble, I can't forsee events returning there for a long time. I can however, see events returning to certain countries that's flattened the curve. Canada would probably host a few (like in BC).

As someone from very hot dry Australia? Don't bet your own, or anyone else's life on that.

With the cancellation of the Grand Prix Final, which was to be the Olympic test event in figure skating, it's not too early to start thinking about this subject again.

It's comparatively easy to reschedule test events that are to be held in indoor arenas. It is more difficult to reschedule the outdoor events, which are to be staged in a semiarid environment.

Does anyone know if other test events have been cancelled, and, if so, which ones?

I believe a postponement is likely unless people can travel safely again, then it may go as scheduled.
