xam_trankov: "Peace" is such a short word, but it means so much. We thank those who were fighting for the peace. Your grandkids and great-grandkids remember your heroic deed! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

tatiana_navka: 75 years ago our country had won the hard and heroical Victory in the Great Patriotic War! Today we hold the memory of those who fought on the battlefields, who overcame a siege or concentration camps, who worked on the home front, who were killed in battles and who survived to reconstruct the country after the war! People who gave their all for the sake of our future, for the sake of the peaceful sky above our heads, for the sake of their country! People who not only had won, but also managed to recover the country which was almost ruined! People whose heroic deed we can't overestimate and can't forget! We bow down before our heroes!!! May the memory of them live forever. #ImmortalRegimentAtHome "They should keep marching in victorious parade at all times"!
Our hero is a Red Army soldier, a Red Navy sailor who participated in the liberation of Sevastopol, was wounded in March 1942, was awarded the Medal For Courage, the Medal For Battle Merit, the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2-nd Class, the Medal for For the Defense of Caucasus. Petr Petrovich Navka. We do remember, we pride!

slutskayaofficial: Unfortunately, tomorrow we won't be able to go to see the parade or to participate in the Immortal Regiment procession, but we can congratulate our dear veterans on May 9. We can sing the "Victory Day" song to honour the memory of our heroes. Go tomorrow to pobeda-2020.ru or диктантпобеды.рф and choose your language to sing together! Don't forget to invite your relatives to do the same

slutskayaofficial: Congratulations on the Victory Day! It seems every year this important event gets farther from us. But we should not forget those who fought for our freedom and well-being. We should do our best to remember our heroes.
I invite you to rewatch today one of our favourite movies about the war:
(a list of movies)
I wish everyone peace, wish the veterans a long life and health! May there always be peace.

azagitova: We do remember. We appreciate. We are pride on.
The name on the photo is Mirkasim Amirzagitovich Zagitov (1909-1982)

avtrusova: Congratulations on The Victory Day!
(on the video Alexandra recites poetry)

sofia_samodurova: Our dear veterans! I'm immeasurably grateful for your heroic deed for the sake of life and peace on the earth and congratulate You on the victory day with my whole heart. I wish you health, warmth and happiness!
(on the video Sofia sings "The Cranes" song - I posted it yesterday)

anna__shcherbakova_: The Immortal Regiment: my great-great-grandfather Nikita Petrovich Masalov. I'm pride on and do remember!
So many hero's around the world......enabling us to have the lives we have today. Many thanks to all of them.

averbukhofficial: Neither of us can imagine those trials which our grandfathers and great-grandfathers had to overcome. The war took lots and lots of lives and wrecked lots and lots of lives. Those strong people can be always a role model for us. I'd like to believe that contemporary people will be clever enough to live without wars and hold the memory of those who lost their lives for the sake of our lives. Congratulations on the great Victory Day!
(Averbukh posted once again the video on which he tells about his grandfather Mark Lvovich Burdo)
When the war began, his grandfather was learning in a secondary medical school, he passed through the war from the beginning to the end, he was a surgeon (a doctor). Ilya is proud, that his grandfather saved many lives. His grandfather met his grandmother during the war, in 1943. Mark Lvovich was in Moscow only for 7 days, he saw a girl in the subway, and after a week they married.

jmedvedevaj: Congratulations on the Victory Day! May there always be peace in your home. People gave their lives for that peace.

Zagitova was ready with less than a full senior season behind her. And Vasileva, Usacheva, and Khromykh went 1-2-4 at 2020 Jr. Worlds, and each will be age-eligible for Beijing, each turning 15 in April or May of 2021.
How many times has a younger ladies figure skater, won the Olympic gold medal over "older" ladies? A question because I'm curious. Many fans think the more experienced = better quality skating = more likely to win.

  • Samarin: Silver at 2019 Euros. In the 2019-20 season, silver at IdF, gold at RC, 4th at GPF. x
  • Aliev: Gold at 2020 Euros. In the 2019-20 season, bronze at SA, silver at RC, 6th at GPF.
  • Danielian: Silver at 2020 Euros. Silver at two JGP's.
  • Ignatov: Bronze at RC. 7th at NHK.
  • Mozalev: Gold at 2020 World Juniors, 1st at two JGP's, 2nd at JGPF, 2nd at Youth Winter Olympics
Samarin had a weak 2020 Euros, one competition. He beat Aliev and Ignatov head-to-head at RC and Aliev head-to-head at GPF.

^^^Samarin lost to Aliev and Dainelian at nationals too (he lost to both in the three most important competitions of the season!). He should have lost to Ignatov too but was clearly propped up.
Aso he wasn't just weak at one competition. GPF and nationals were extremely weak too. And all three happened to be the very last three competitions of the season.

I know the Russian fed. like him because they think men's skating is all about the jumps and when he's on he deserves his props but don't like how they clearly promote him above Aliev (Rostelecom should have been far closer!) who is far more the complete package. A number of other Russian men can be considered the compete package too when the jumps come together but they don't seem to get the favor from the fed. Samarin, who is mainly just jumps, does. None of the Russian men are particularly consistent (an understatement I know) so why they single out Samarin as their golden boy when he isn't consistent either annoys me

(about the portrait)
rudkovskayaofficial: Today is a very important date for all of us! The day when we remember those who defended our Motherland! This is my grandpa and great-grandpa for my sons - Nikolay Timofeyevich Syrov. He participated in battles from the Soviet border to Moscow and from Moscow to Berlin! He had many wounds, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War, the Medal For the Defense of Moscow and many other awards. Thank You for our lives, for the peaceful sky! I congratulate everyone on this date, on the Victory Day! On the Great date for all the Russian people, all the soviet people! Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten! We do remember! We are grateful! We pride!

Nationals is national judging, and that comes with whatever agenda, regardless of the performances.

And if he was so weak at GPF, Aliev was even weaker.

^^^^
If you don't count nationals because that's "national judging with whatever agenda regardless of performance" then I wouldn't count Rostelecom cup either. It may technically be an international event but when it comes to home skaters it simply "national judging with whatever agenda regardless of performance 2.0."

And it's true Aliev was weaker then Samarin at the GPF but truthfully they both sucked there. Neither got a medal and weren't close. But at least Aliev got better in the next two competitions. Samarin just got worse and worse. I would think the Russian fed. care more about Euros then the GPF

For local skaters in general, perhaps. For individual skaters, I'm no so sure. There's an international panel to influence for skater X vs. Skater Y.

And I don't know why you'd want to dump Samarin from the bunch: it's not like they left someone off the Olympic team for him to be on the National team.

International panels have shown that they'll give him the PCS as long as he lands his jumps. What exactly is the downside for the Russian Fed?

I don't want the federation to dump anybody. My problem is all the Russian men are all in the same boat of ups and downs but they clearly favor one over others. And this goes beyond Samarin because it's something they have done for years. It's one of the top reasons the state or Russian men's skating has suffered.

Samarin gets the big PCS because the Russian fed. clearly backs him as their big #1 and the international judges simply fall in line (that's true for all disciplines and countries and their #1). His PCS even when he's lackluster or terrible are very generous. If they didn't back him as hard as they do his PCS would likely be lower even when he's cleaner.

t.a.tarasova: The Immortal Regiment of Tarasovs family. This is mom of my husband Vladimir Krainev. Her name is Rakhil Moiseyevna Gershoig. She had been working for three years as a surgeon in a front-line hospital (till April 1944 when her son was born). She was a major of medical corps. She lived 97 years.

t.a.tarasova: The Immortal Regiment of Tarasovs family. My dad Anatoly Vladimirovich Tarasov. The participant of The Great Patriotic War. Was awarded the Medal For Battle Merit, the Medal For Defeat of Germany in The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.

t.a.tarasova: The Immortal Regiment of Tarasovs family. My mom Nina Grigorievna Tarasova. My mom had graduated from the institute before the beginnning of the war, she was a skier, she was a coach in skiing. Even though she had a baby (my sister Galya was born in February 1941), my mom worked as a coach. When our army had to defend Moscow and when they started the counterattack, there were more than 30 ski battalions composed of the best skiers of the country. She is awarded the Medal for For the Defense of Moscow.

t.a.tarasova: In the end of the day I'd like to post this picture. A few years ago. May 9. The Parade. I believe we'll have again our parades and The Immortal Regiment will pass along Moscow streets. I thank you for the warm words, for the congratulations. I thank all our moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas for the Victory. Congratulations! Hurray!

alexei.yagudin: We THANK all our moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas for the clean sky above our heads, for the victory. mariapetrova1977: The peaceful sky!!!
(many photos)

and here Petrova's and Tikhonov's daughter Polina dances to "The olive-skinned girl" song

and a nice skating video to celebrate this day
The first song (when we see only Alexei Tikhonov) is "Dark Is The Night", the second one is "The olive-skinned girl". I also like this video, because it has the end of this number: in the end Tikhonov takes off the soldier's blouse.

"Dark Is The Night" is translated to English
(the lyrics are below the video - you can press "SHOW MORE")

"Catherine" ("Katyusha") in English
(the lyrics are below the video - you can press "SHOW MORE")

"A Hilltop With No Name" in English
(the lyrics are below the video - you can press "SHOW MORE")

Thanks once again to those who were happy to join our celebration. I expected to see many posts on May 9 - I think I've found enough.

Aliev, Ignatov, Gumenik and, I think, Mozalev are from St Petersburg, while Samarin and Danielian are from Moscow. It could be influencing the marks on the RusNats.

Alina Zagitova remembering her Great Grandfather and all defenders of the motherland who sacrificed themselves to protect their country and family.

Every Russian/former USSR republics skater today is affected by events of WWII through their Grand Parents, or Great Grand Parents and close relatives.

The Hymn of Victory from 1940's

A more modern song remembering the defenders, survivors and the fallen (interesting and heartouching documentary footage).

And that you to the Allied Forces!!!

So true. This should be framed. I don’t like that a weaker skater gets held up, but they do time and again. Nationals are so deeply contrived.

:respec: to the Soviet solider
... and yet a certain portion of both Soviet and Nazi soldiers terribly tortured the opposing party's town-dwellers and villagers, especially women (if you know what i mean). Respect goes for fighting and defending your land - no respect is deserved for those who went beyond defending or preventing.
