Does anyone know which Arnalds piece they’re using?
I tried to soundhound and shazam it but no success. I'd like to know too especially that second piece where they do that wonderful rotational lift making them look like a clock ticking right on the beat of the music with her legs positioned like watch hands. There is a noir sci-fi dystopian aesthetic to their FD. I like that she's in a unitard looking outfit but alas she will have to wear a skirt or a dress, what a stupid rule ! What makes this so great is the gender neutral quality to it. Not a woman and a man dancing but just two people which is highlighted by those neutral costumes. The Duchesnays had tried it already with their mirror FD where they were both dressed identically but I believe they had to ditch that program like Blanc/Bouquet who had to ditch their slam FD because it wasn't suitable to the judges (rhythmic and melodic issues). I hope P/C won't have to cave in too. But I think their enough musical backbone to avoid music violation.

But hell, they are such superb skaters they could skate to Baby Shark and you would still be mesmorised. I now dare someone to put Baby Shark over the start of the their RD.
Someone please do this.

P.S. When I first listened to the Forrest Blakk spoken word, I thought it was super-pretentious and didn't think I would like the FD, but they really make it work. I really like it so far.

I watched the FD 5 times in a row and I'm in love! Yesterday, when I watched it the first time, tired of 3 days at the Nebelhorn Trophy I wasn't fully convinced. But what a masterpiece! The more often you see it, the more details you see, the more you understand it! They're brilliant! I think their RD will be my favourite skating program of this season of all skaters, programs. It's so good, so fun, I laugh so loud each time I watch it. But the FD is so so good, too! I can't wait to see them in Grenoble!

I just watched the FD again, this time on my TV rather than my computer. Second viewing I loved it. There is so much subtle detail and nuance. The words do guide the chorey but not in an obvious way and help to establish the relationship between the two skaters. The music has a Philip Glass quality about it so it builds. I do think there is still work to do (such as the one foot sequence wasn't as fluid as it could have been) but the bones are there. Also there are many movements where they are leaning forward or back which means the body is moving away from the balance point over the skate. Increases not only the difficulty but the interest and variety of movement.

I also appreciate that they are putting something out there that is challenging to the audience. A lot of thought and intelligence has gone into it. Later in the season this program is going to be amazing.

What Jordan captured seems to be an earlier draft version because the choreo at a couple points we saw was more precise and fleshed out than what's in the clip.

Guillaume has a headband!!!!???
Seriously, I love this dance! Can’t wait to see their real outfits.

Gabi's expressions through the whole thing is just gold hahaha. IDF can't come soon enough!

After a couple more watches, I'd like to see them tweak the music to meld the words into the instrumental a bit more. To stretch and compress the lyrics in different places.

I think it might be one of the soundtracks to Broadchurch. The sound similar to clock-ticking (with their movement) is possibly, at least from a part, from the 2/2 of the Suspects piece. Also, the violin/cello sounds are strongly present in the music for the tv show, but I might be wrong. If anyone knows for a sure, it would be great.

I don't know the score well enough to be certain, but it does sound like Broadchurch.

Yeah, I came here to post the same video. :encore: P/C's Masters RD and FD vids have probably already been posted in this thread. As usual, a very interesting approach to programs by P/C and their team. I don't value everything DL has to say on TSL, and I have some problems with any number of his comments toward skaters. However, TSL posted a new episode today in which they discuss P/C's new programs, and I do agree with the TSL observation that P/C's programs are helping to push the ice dance discipline and the sport forward. As the season progresses, P/C's execution of these programs will continue to evolve and sharpen, but already it's obvious that the well thought out concepts and direction they are taking is as usual, genius.

TSL suggests there are bound to be the naval-gazing, naysaying critics who don't understand the significance of what P/C are doing. ITA that these new programs are about reinvigorating the ice dance discipline with fresh takes on what's happening now in the ever-changing cultural idioms of the dance world. It's true that ice dance has needed over recent years to increase interest and to up-the-ante with fresh approaches to stale, staid forms and patterns. That's why hip-hop was explored a few seasons ago, that's why there's been the cross-fertilization between pairs and ice dance, and that's why SD was changed to RD (Rhythm Dance), and that's why we have the Broadway show/movie musical theme being put forward for the RD this season.

It will be interesting to see whether the ISU will return to conservative themes again in the Olympic season. But no matter what, it is a good idea for top skaters to take chances and risks during this interim cycle to explore new takes and possibilities. In my view, it is truly about taking the old and melding it with the new. The best artists and athletes learn the intricacies of their craft and honor the past in order to try and shed some light on the chaos of the present. It is through such examination and explorations of understanding that a path to the future begins to be charted.

I can't wait to see how these programs will evolve! Thank God for Gadbois (P/C, Marie-France, Patch, Romain, et al) :saint: :respec:

I was once told that walking through a doorway
could cause someone to forget even the most
precious memories they had

Memories of good, memories of bad
Memories of love and of loss all tucked away neatly
Stored like the worn-out blankets that were kept
To address the rainy days and bad habits that
Happen from time to time

But what it felt like to rest your head on a friend's shoulder
That still carries with it the creases from where you last
Placed your heart

Just like that, gone within a single step
That somehow three beams and an imaginary line
Drawn across some old aching floor boards
Were all that stood between you and the infinite silence
Of the very things that once colored your mind with sound

It's funny, you can make yourself believe almost anything
If you think about it long enough

I was once told that the love I felt beating inside my chest
Was nothing more than my mind playing an unfair trick on my heart
And like a pair of dice dancing along the uneven pavement
Their fate, much like yours or mine, had already been decided
That even the tracks that drew their faults between two opposing sides
Could not escape a fate that was always destined to be sealed

To think that someone could actually believe that the swelling tides of my heart
Were no more than an anxious highway of ins-and-outs anchoring my imagination
To the castles I've been building in the sky
Well, maybe they were the crazy ones...

Because I've always believed that the odds of finding what you seek
Tend to favor those who are open to seeking them in the first place...

And then, okay this eloquent spoken word poetry by Forest Blakk meanders from self-doubts, evocative images, existentialism and questioning why we are here to apparently hitting the brakes on the old story of passionate young lovers seeking answers to why their love can't last forever. Having to find each other again in different lifetimes can be tough slogging. :( :wuzrobbed

Apparently, P/C and team have condensed the words down to the most interesting observations. As we all know, their partnership ain't at its essence about romantic love. It's more about their mutual creative search to find depth and meaning in their passion for ice dance and to share their adventure with us.

The end part about staring into each others eyes for an eternity and never forgetting each other, and finding a home in each other certainly applies to P/C in the sense of how they have grown together as ice dance competitors, and how as a result they know each other so well, perhaps in some ways better than they know their intimate, significant others. Because not everything in the world is about romantic love and sex, but few of us realize that when we're young. ;)

i don't think people's critiques of p/c's fd has to do with misunderstanding the intent or impact of what they are trying to do as artists within this sport. i think this spoken word piece is boring and cloying in regard to its message about love. i wish they had chosen another. some of the movement is also too much like what we've seen ad nauseum in contemporary dance competition the last several years. maybe these movements are new to skating, but its too bad they didn't choose a contemporary/modern dance choreographer with better chops than that sam bozo.

At the moment I prefer to wait and see because I feel there's A LOT of room to grow, to add more choreography. Also I feel the change of rhythm in the middle isn't marked enough. So all of this, plus the bad filming and the costumes still to come are promising a great new version of this FD in Grenoble.

Absolutely loved the beginning of the RD! I can see the rest of the program needs work, but it's early so that's fine. I just like how they have embraced the cheesy aspect of Fame, and totally own it.

The FD concept I love, but not the song choice itself. I'm not getting the connection between the program and the poem yet. At this point, I can picture better spoken word pieces that would fit the choreography.

same!

I don't feel it's about love. Rather, I feel it's about missing the "idea" of love, and looking back and filling it in where it may or may not have been. It's wanting and looking for a "connection" as opposed to actually having one.

To me, the program explores this theme, the human desire for connection, to ourselves, to another person, to the world.

The choreography constantly has them reaching for something, and then just not quiet having it in grasp. There's how they move to get to the ending pose. The choreography reflects how we look back on our memories, and how we tend to "force" our memories into a place that has meaning to us currently.

Thriiiiiilled with their FD! Yes to the notion it's like picking up the 2017 FD thread. Love it so far, and my love for Arnaulds music is not clouding my vision. :P Gabby looks somehow multiple levels stronger somehow this year - not in skating skills, but in the lifts and such. So glad they're headed back this direction and hope we get a program like this for the Olympics.

The RD I was so primed to like. I got to help caption the TV series for re-airing in Canada last decade despite missing out on becoming a fan somehow. I think they nail the tone of the musical itself, too. LOVE this program.

And in a sea of peppy Broadway and such, it stands out like the cool kids they are.
