Liam Kapeikis (from Wenatchee, Washington) trains with Keegan Murphy and his mother. Kudos to him trying 3A in his SP (first time?). He will make his JGP debut for the USA in Riga, Latvia.

ETA that I couldn't resist linking to @shutterbug's comments about Kapeikis back in May ;):
 He was announced as representing the Connaught Skating Club. Can I hope that he's defected to Canada? :D

Re Liam Kapeikis: I really liked his skating at Victoria Day competition as well, and it was reinforced here. That was a creditable attempt at a 3A (looked rotated). The Connaught affiliation is new - his USFS bio still shows him as training in Wenatchee, with his parents as coaches, and his affiliation at Victoria Day was Wenatchee SC.

That was a good group of junior men - 5 NextGen team members, 3 with JGP assignments (not the two first-year juniors, Chiu and Newnham) plus Kapeikis from the US.
Eric Liu seems to be skating well this summer, although his SP here was not as clean or high-scoring as at Wild Rose (hands down on the 3A - score 68.48 vs 75 at Wild Rose). Hope he can have a good LP, and carry it forward to the JGP (Riga #3 and Egna#7). I've had a soft spot for him since he was so good as a very young kid (3rd in juniors as a 12 year old), then quit for a while and struggled to get back. His skating is looking quite mature now.

He's grown into quite a performer this season. Very charming SP. :) But his 3axel technique is still :yikes:. Ravi must be waiting for him to at least get the hang of it before he starts tinkering.

Liu moves really well! His arms could use more control, but I might not have noticed if the rest wasn't so good.

The jump technique, though: it's not just the 3A. I'm glad he's with Walia.

Some trouble on the final lift (I think), but Haley and Nikolas' free dance is pretty good -- though for a comparatively low-ranked team like this, I'm not sure this sort of super-classical approach is the route to standing out.

And, I'm assuming, that makes Makita & Gunara's 2nd win of this season also :) .

Thank you for the video links from both events this weekend. I look forward to watching them when I have a chance.

Indeed, though west coast ice dance being what it is at the moment, them losing here would have been much more notable than them winning.

The judges at this event were definitely looking to flex a bit, though; they gave M/G the highest score yet for a junior dance team at a domestic competition this season.

Next to skate in Novice FS is Emma Szeto (competed in NAC at Wild Rose) who won SP yesterday scoring 42.65 (3T+3T, 3Lz< fall, 2A). At the NAC she had six triples planned in her FS (3Lz, 3F, repeated 3S & 3T) though wasn't able to execute well there.

ETA: She landed everything she planned... good job, Emma! :)

Joanne M. looks jovial in the kiss & cry as they wait for the scores :D. 81.41 in FS.

So much potential! How do we get her away from Joanne and over to Ravi?

Forgot to mention that Szeto won the Novice SP at NAC (landed the 3Lz cleanly there; she was #4 to skate if you want to watch the linked replay video): https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...-wild-rose-singles-pairs.105787/#post-5614166
According to her Section bio, Emma is junior age eligible. I imagine the lack of a 3loop is the reason she is still in novice. Hopefully she can get out on the JGP circuit next season. Looking forward to seeing more from this young lady. :)

Did anyone catch the Pond to Podium feature of the 12 year old Pre-Novice who skates with Keegan Murphy? I missed her name but she looks like a terrific performer with solid jumps!

? Brown? (I remember thinking 'that name is similar to USA junior ice dancer Oona Brown's'). I just spent time looking at Connaught Skating Club's FB page to try and find her and came across these 2 JGP congratulation posts:
Liam Kapeikis (USA): https://m.facebook.com/ConnaughtSC/photos/a.427067600675993/2400945209954879/
Micah Kai Lynette (THA, born in Hawaii): https://m.facebook.com/ConnaughtSC/photos/a.427067600675993/2384349261614474/

She said her Dad was Japanese and that she makes Japanese dinners sometimes.
Maybe I got her coach wrong? I was kind of watching it and kind of not for the first bit.

Now this is REALLY going to bug me until I can find out her full name! :shuffle: I've already looked through several BC results pages (this comp. and earlier ones)...

Here's Rinka Watanabe (JPN) with her Stars Wars themed FS, beginning with "Jyn Erso & Hope Suite" from the Rogue One OST.

Junior Women FS (left to skate):
11 Rinka Watanabe Champs International SC of BC BC/YK (ETA: She scored 93.55 in FS and now leads with 140.92.)
12 Vienna Harwood Kelowna FSC BC/YK

13 Olivia Gran Kelowna FSC BC/YK
14 Leah Lee Connaught SC BC/YK
15 Kaiya Ruiter Glencoe Club AB/NT/NU
16 Emily Bausback Champs International SC of BC BC/YK
17 Emma Bulawka Kelowna FSC BC/YK
18 Emily Millard Champs International SC of BC BC/YK

This is one of the best skates from Bausack too. Maybe some under rotations there but she went for seven triples too including a double axel triple toe at the beginning and a triple sal triple toe later in the program.

I still do not understand why Bausback's choreographer thinks there's a sizable constituency of people who want to hear "My Heart Will Go On" but not Celine Dion.
