#2 KAETLYN OSMOND : CANADA'S SWEETHEART

Plus I'd think that winter before US and Canadian Nationals is a good time to get new programs from in-demand choreographers. After Nationals and a break, those without further assignments as either selected or subs will start planning and working on next season's programs.

Has Kaetlyn moved full time to the Toronto area? I know Trennt is there. She seems to be there whenever she’s not traveling. I know she keep saying she hasn’t made up her mind about retiring, but it’s starting to feel like she’s definitely done. She seems so happy to be on this break and is loving her time with friends and family. I can’t see her going back to the training regimen again ?

She'll be back for one more season worlds is in montreal.

That she still says she's undecided at this point is noteworthy, I guess, but my feeling is no, she won't be back. Figure skating at a competitive level is very physically demanding, requires a lot of motivation, and from her interviews she feels perfectly content with what she's already accomplished -- which is great for her, obviously; so many skaters, even many who've won more big medals than her, don't get that; but it's not the sort of attitude that would push her back into competing.

Agreed. She does seem like she exceeded her own expectations. She also seems to be yearning for a more normal life. That being said I never expected her to have a decision until after Stars. My guess is she will be part of whatever Scott and Tessa are getting ready to announce.

Thanks for posting. I saw a clip of her at a show recently and she fell out of a double axel and only did a double jump in combination. Even if she wants to transition to shows, she needs to keep up her jumps! I miss her on the competitive scene.

So you have said previously aml78. Funny how some only talk about the falls when they happen and fail to mention the other 90% of her shows as per this year. I guess for some, why focus on the positive?

BTW, have we met in another life aml78, as the 'doom and gloom' tone, does sound familiar...

The show I’m referencing in my most recent post was within the last week. I haven’t seen clips of any of her other shows since TTYCT which was a few months ago.

Kaetlyn will be the guest skater at the Skating Club of Boston's annual ICE CHIPS show:

April 13, 2019 at 12:00pm & 6:00pm
April 14, 2019 at 1:00pm
Harvard University’s Bright-Landry Hockey Center

Sigh...hate to post this, but have to say I'm a little concerned with yet another performance with no jumps. Fall on a 2A and a popped 3T into a 2T. I really don't think this has much to do with fitness, as she looks healthy and fit. I hope there is no injury, which is always my fear with her. I also hope for her sake that by the time SOI rolls around in a few weeks she's got her jumps under control because the comments will be :scream:

In a better note, I think her two new show numbers are PERFECT for her. That Lady Gaga song (Million Reasons) is something I've always thought would match her power. Love it! And could anything be more in her wheelhouse than Proud Mary? Perfect choices. :)

Count me as another who doesn't expect Kaetlyn to return next season. I'm sure she's tempted by worlds being at home, but rather doubt she's up to training. Given that she already has World Gold, Olympic Bronze, and Olympic team gold, I think she'd find it very difficult to find motivation.

Maybe was already posted, but I feels she would’ve repeated as world champion if competed this year and probably would’ve dominated competitions. With Russian girls being a mess all season until worlds. It’s too bad she didn’t compete

Kind of impossible to know. If she’d competed and done in the neighbourhood of what she did at her last two competitions she’d have done very well indeed. But as I said, nobody knows what’s going to happen in those few minutes in the arena.

With updated scoring system, it’s hard to know.

She’s participating in the new tour in the fall. That announcement coupled with the lack of any training says to me she’s done. I’d expect an announcement today since her participation in the tour was announced today. She announced around the same time as the TTYCT announcement came out last time. They won’t want the press for the tour to be about her retirement so she will likely get ahead of it. Small chance she could pull a weaver/poje but I’d be surprised. It does seem like she’s moved to Toronto so that’s another sign too. She really does need to get her jumps back if she wants to be a show skater. No one wants to see her falling everywhere or doing doubles. Hope she buckled down on that.

Hmm? She’d get huge GOE on all her jumps (other than the Lutz, if they followed the letter of the rules).

No point in debating what didn’t happen ;) I agree with you. But she also had a history of making mistakes too (even small ones) which would likely get dinged harder. Just saying it’s hard to predict how it would go. But yes. I agree she would have been very competitive. I just don’t think she was beating a clean Zagitova. I do think she could have been on the podium for sure.
