Congrats to Shoma for the first win at an A comp of this season. ;):cheer: Programs will be more cooked as season progresses like other seasons in the past. Looks it's really tough to skate the 4 mins long program for men this season. Wish he/other skaters will get used to it soon.

Seems he tends to wear less perky/fluffy costumes this season. I wonder if it's because his team wants to show his more built up body line as a young man than before.

I am liking the less frilly costumes on Shoma. Maybe he is having some input now on his likes and dislikes. I know that in the past
he said the costumes are fitted and I wear them the clothes are put out and I wear them. lol

I think it was at 4CC's last season when he wore the yellow turnadot costume and caused quite a bit of buzz. When asked why he changed the costume from the
beautiful blue costume he was a little surprised by the question, he chuckled and said well the blue is being cleaned. He is a character.

Is it my delusion or Shoma improved in run-out of his jumps and now has more flow out of them?

No rosewood your are not delusional. His jumps have improved. Shoma has been going to Alex Ouriashev
who is based at Glacier Falls FSC in Chicago for two years. Shoma refers to Alex as his jump coach.
He usually stays for about for 7-10 days and I believe he has gone twice a year since 2016.

Alex also coached Gracie Gold before she went to Frank Carroll.

Agree. His jumps have improved with better flow and difficult entries. I remember watching news clips of him working with Coach Alex. He practiced a lot over the summer with him and worked to build up his stamina. But I think it will take some time for him to adjust.

Despite the wonky jump landings, I think he still delivered a mesmerizing FS. Like he said in an interview after the SP, I do feel that it's a mental thing for him. It's not like he can't jump any of the quads he has under his belt. Hopefully he builds up the confidence in time for Nationals.

The low landings on his jumps have always bothered me but I think it is nearly impossible for him to change that at this point. As long as he rotates the jumps and lands on one foot, he may be ok. If Hanyu is not competing, I root for Shoma to win. I loved his performance at the GPF, even with the mistakes.

During the warming-up, it looked Shoma injured his foot. And he didn't do any jump during the warming-up after that. He didn't mention about the accident during the after-event interview by answering that he doesn't want to comment [about his foot] since he doesn't want to make any excuse. I'm afraid it might be serious. Hope not.
