While Kerber may be the 'best opponent Serena faced all tourney,' none of the others are piece-of-cake nobodies. As they are professionals on the tour, none are exactly that easy to play against either.
Serena could have lost against any one of her previous opponents in the draw. I can just imagine what some of the putdowns would have been had that happened. 
Nobody gets to play at Wimbledon unless they know how to play tennis. I have huge respect for Serena's semi-final opponent, Julia Goerges who had this to say: "Serena knew how to win that match by experience. She steps up her game. It's a big word which is respect toward me that she brings her A game... I played great and I'm closer... I don't look at this match negatively. Serena is the one who you want to play and who you want to get the experience from... She was there from every single point, and she showed me how to play [the big points] at that stage of [crucial moments in a match]." And frankly, I doubt Angelique Kerber has ever 'feared' Serena Williams. If you want to be a champion, you can't 'fear' anyone. Like Goerges, Kerber surely respects Serena and has learned from playing against her.
During his press conference today when he was asked about Serena having lost her match against Kerber, Novak had this to say: "Serena lost? Obviously an amazing result for Kerber, but it's not a huge surprise because Kerber is a top player and she's won a couple of Grand Slams already and beat Serena in the Australian Open. So it's quite amazing that Kerber managed to pull out the win against Serena. But Serena, after giving birth to her child and not playing for so long, and she got to the Wimbledon finals, I think she'll take it... You have to take into consideration what she's been through. She keeps on inspiring all of us. It's quite incredible what she's doing, to be honest."
Right, of course. It was a silly question from me after watching both matches for so many hours yesterday.
The only other possibility as Rafa mentioned (when asked) is for his match with Novak to have been scheduled ahead of Isner vs. Anderson. Or play could have been scheduled to start a bit earlier in the day. But as Rafa said, 'There's no way to predict what's going to happen in matches. That's the sport.' A possible change to at least playing a tiebreaker in the final set if the games reach 12-all makes a lot of sense particularly because 12-all is very rare. In any case, the players aren't complaining about anything. Reporters are always trying to stir something up. One of them nagged Serena about whether having to wait till Novak vs Rafa match played out today affected her? I mean why would it? That was Serena's response as well. She was not affected at all. As Serena said, she played all of her other matches during the fortnight at no set time, whenever previous matches ended.

for Thiem. That was a brilliant win over Kevin Anderson. It amazes me he can return so well so when he stands soooooo far back behind the baseline.
