(Updated) Denis Ten Murdered: was stabbed in the thigh

Yuzuru has never had any social media accounts, as all his fans know, so exactly how could he do this?

He could release his statement through Yoshiko Kobayashi, an executive board member of JSF. He has always used her as his spokes person whenever he skipped a competition for injury.

^^ Please understand that Hanyu does not have to release a statement to anyone.

Can we keep this thread about Denis Ten's MURDER, the information about it, and expressions of condolences?

And more about happier memories and remembrances, and about showing a bit more respect to Denis who is no longer here to speak for himself! The loss of such a fine human being and the example he set is the point that's being missed purposely or blindly. I personally was sad about the fact that Denis' reputation suffered so needlessly, and the incident was below the surface in this thread and it percolated over prior to my #526 post, but it doesn't need to be fought over here. Actually, it shouldn't be fought over anywhere. :drama: Those who hold tight to some kind of factional uber war will never ever be satisfied and will never cease their instigating.

I hold nothing against Hanyu by expressing my sorrow that the incident hurt the way some people viewed Denis. And I already clearly stated that. The lasting memory for reasonable fans as well as for trolling factionalists should be that both skaters put what happened behind them. Everyone who had a personal relationship with Denis know the truth of his character. It is excitable factionalist fans who refuse to stop the angry backbiting.

... (bitter Takahashi ubers are every bit as bad as the craziest fanyus)

Where does Dai Takahashi even enter into this topic?? Please take factional uber wars elsewhere, and leave the memory of Denis Ten completely out of Japanese fan wars.

Has there been any media about Frank Carroll's retirement? Bebe Liang posted about it on Instagram. I found this article about Denis where he spoke glowingly of Mr. Carroll.

Also, some of the skaters in The Ice skated a group performance to "Tu Sei" in memory of Denis. Nathan Chen, Alina Zagitova, Nobunari Oda and Takahito Mura were among the group. I hope we'll be able to see it online soon. Such a beautiful song that will always remind me of Denis.

Talking about Tu Sei, it is the last program Denis skated in Japan. Machida's tribute on his official site was posted earlier on this thread. In the end of the tribute he affiliated a link to a Youtube video of Tu Sei saying "I offer this video". That was a truly beautiful performance from Denis. I wonder if the Youtube account 'we love d10' was created by Machida himself. Long live the video as a memory of this wonderful skater!

Thanks for this @livetoskate. I broke down crying seeing the close-up picture of Denis smiling into the camera just below the beautiful quote about Frank Carroll (I posted Denis' words in the Carroll retirement thread). Denis looks like a magical elf and an angel in that photo.

And then this further sentiment by Denis is beyond heartbreaking, but if possible I suppose it can be also uplifting in a way. But I don't know because it seems he had so much to overcome and he was still hopeful, and then tragedy struck!?

Denis: "... despite all the challenges I want to trust my instincts, trust my fate and go on and do the best I can."

:wuzrobbed It's hard to think that maybe what Denis was brought here to do he had achieved, and he was simply taken to his reward. That's so hard a thought, but maybe that's the answer. Or maybe there are no answers, only Denis' life, his words, his beautiful spirit and the work he's left behind. Whenever Sergei Voronov skates his D10-choreographed program this season, tears will be flowing. I know my eyes will be full of tears.

I don't know if this was posted earlier. Here's Denis' program at his 2018 show honoring Astana. He talks afterward, with English subtitles, explaining how he authored the music and how emotionally connected he is to the music. He explains his vision:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kA4MR75RiU

"I see the future of ice shows with visuals, with scenario, with patented music. And the most significant thing: it has to have a soul..."

Hopefully, many of those who were closest to Denis, will join in bringing his vision to fruition. How can we not be inspired by this young man's heart, and by his art?

And come under fire of accusations that he's insencere and he's using the situation to boost his popularity? Unlike skipping a competition, in his case condolences are a personal not official matter, and if he went as far as employing official channels, he'd get tons of flack for it. He's not actually stupid.

I don't think the public would really care that much how sincere his comment sounds.

No...but the thread should also not rewrite history by erasing the fact that it wasn't just once, it was three times in two sessions and the issue was a matter of basic practice etiquette. @aftershocks trying to characterise it as some little distracted moment or Hanyu overreacting doesn't quite cut it.

But I don't want to dwell on that as it seems that all parties moved on long ago, a longer time even than it takes to read one of aftershocks' posts. I don't understand why the incident has even been brought up again.

Perhaps because people like you can’t keep their fingers off the keyboard?

Here it is almost 6pm Central US time on a Sunday, two weeks after his murder and funeral -- and it still feels like a dream that any of this has happened -- and yet I will never forget watching over Youtube the funeral and memorial of a skater loved by so many around the world, and taken so cruelly before his time -- His loss is an immense one for the sport, and I just hope someone in KAZ picks up his torch and keeps Denis's hopes for better facilities and more competition opportunities for skaters from his country alive -- between that, and us fans just treating each other better and not vilifying each other just because we may like different skaters, or appreciate different aspects of skating; I think THAT would be the best tribute to Denis's memory that could be given...

Here is an old jewish joke:
The whole town is at a funeral of a nice young man.
After 2 hours an old Rabbi comes in and says: other than fighting which of your daughters would have made him a better bride, does anyone has anything else to say about the deceased?

Thanks @bardtoob... It's interesting looking back on the CBC commentary, and this is a good video quality version of Denis' The Artist sp from 2013. I know it's not the point for Denis regarding medals, but when I see his 2013 Worlds performances, I always think how much he deserved to win. In the long run, he did win because he knew he'd overcome a lot to be able to finally skate at an optimal level and have that breakthrough. In the end, figure skating fans who appreciate well-rounded skating and magical artistry also won. The quality of these performances will last in the sport's collective memory.

I've seen some comments that The Artist wasn't the first time that one music selection for both programs concept was done. But it was genius by Denis and his collaborators because the connection between the programs was devised so beautifully and uniquely. That Denis was able to fully realize the vision behind the concept so well in a big competitive moment spoke volumes. And my gosh, this performance along with Denis' performances at 2015 4CCs show how superb his camel position spins are. Denis' posture was always absolutely to-die-for. His upright back and the precision of his technique at his best, was phenomenal. Even when not at his best technically, Denis' mastery for expressing the music is among the best ever.

Loved these comments from Denis!

He was such a gentle soul on the ice, kind of flying a bit under the radar. His Olympic bronze and world silver performances/medals were special moments.

There are competitions where all the skaters' performances say "I don't want it. Do you?" And the next skater says, "nah, I don't want it either".

And along comes little Denis Ten, hand up in the air: "I want it! Don't forget about me!" Then lands up on the podium. [/QUOTE]

Someone recently put up this short video of Denis, Adam Rippon, and Takahito Mura skating to "Sexy Back" at The Ice in 2009. It's funny seeing them looking so young skating to this. Adam looks the most different now, whereas Denis mostly stayed the same with his baby face.

Also, someone posted a news article from Kazakhstan on either Twitter or Instagram, where Denis' mom said thanks to the president, sports officials and everyone who's been sending condolences. I used google translate to figure it out. She also said something like, "We still cannot comprehend everything" and that they didn't have the strength right now to answer questions or respond to all the media requests. Unfortunately I don't have the link to the article but if anyone else saw it and can translate it, that'd be nice. Of course we don't expect Denis' parents to be in the frame of mind to speak to reporters and everyone. I feel so sorry for his family and heard he also had a girlfriend, who must be grieving heavily too.

I can't even watch his skates (other than the one Machida posted). It is too painful and I don't know when it will ever not be. ? But I will always remember him as one of the most beautiful skaters I've ever seen. He had it all, including the drive and work ethic, it was just those endless injuries and infections that held him back.

Perhaps the below was posted earlier in this thread and I missed it. @Rina RUS had posted these words from Denis in his fan thread on July 19, 2018. It's heartbreaking, since he was speaking about fate and precious moments of here and now, and not knowing what the next day may bring...

In the informational age, it's nearly impossible to ignore the media-space, although I try not to delve far into the news lately... France, the Ivory Coast (Cote D’Ivoire), Yemen, Turkey, Russia, Belgium… I offer my deepest condolences to all of the victims.
I remember living in Moscow at the same time when major terrorist attacks occurred. Explosions in subway, at railway stations, markets, the Nord-Ost theater siege. The city is huge, so perhaps only some random "chance" kept me away from being part of one of these fatal incidents. Thanks to fate, for some reasons these things passed me by, but I remember every time I was leaving home, I never knew where the same fate would take me that day. «Such is life. You never know what it brings tomorrow» — once told me my childhood idol, Alexei.
All people have is the moment of present. The here-and-now. Everything else is nothing more than a reference to memory – the only place where time exists, as incidentally claimed Einstein "in his time". Therefore, no matter where you go, the step itself - is all a human possess. No matter how far you went through, where you head or how quickly you step.
«Stepping is cool» — I wanted to express, heading out for an evening walk. But one thought interrupted the other.
— It’s funny, — I thought to myself, once wandered outside, — You step "Forward" all the time, but eventually return home like a boomerang.
