I have always gotten the impression from watching Krasnozhon that he is a handful to coach. Lots of talent and potential and no, he's not currently capable of beating Nathan Chen....but I could see where it could be possible in 2-3 years if they are both still skating. Whether his new coaching situation will get him to that point, I have no idea.

:D "i am capable of challenging Chen for the 1st place/the lead on the men's team, all it takes is hard work"..

I like it. He is not saying he is better than Nathan, but that he can challenge Nathan for first... heck Even Adam Rippon beat Nathan in the free at SA, so I think "challenging chen" is provably fair game for many of USA's men. And I like that he sees it as a hard work thing... good for him.

I think this is a much healthier attitude than thinking Chen is insurmountable, or trying to talk down Chen. Good for him.

Oh please, I want *every* skater to go out there saying "on my best day, I can beat Yuzu, Javi, Dick Button in his prime, the two Brians and your great uncle besides". I don't care if in their best comp, they finished dead last at a Sectionals in 2015. It has nothing to do with whether posters yenta-ing it up on an Internet board think it's *likely*.;)

If athletes didn't think that way, the Philadelphia Eagles would not be Super Bowl champs:D So I'm glad Alex thinks that way.

That said, I'm still not seeing what this move brings him. I agree with @Tinami Amori that he knew exactly what he was saying, he even removed the "for personal reasons" quote later. He is excitable and passionate, and I like that about him and his skating. The Cains channeled that well, IMO. Hopefully, the new coaches will too.

Assuming this link is of the same interview, there was an English translation on GS; and the quote there makes sense in context. He was asked directly if he thought he believed he was capable of competing with Nathan for the position of #1 in the future. (He didn't bring up Nathan. The interviewer did). And the future is a vague term. Of course Alexei is working toward competing to be #1 in the future. None of us can read the future, but I think as an athlete one certainly needs to believe reaching the top is possible. To me, that sounds very different than making grandiose statements when one has yet to complete a clean quadruple jump. (Getting credit for 50% of them, though, which is progress from the season before). Context, sometimes, is everything. Nathan & Alexei are friends. I gather good motivation for one another.

Krasnozhon looks to be muscling his big jumps. He looks bulkier also. His jumps will become harder. Can he find a technique to keep him in the game? The big winners are narrow shoulders/hips and flat chested. I don't see him challenging Chen.

That is correct, he was asked if he is planning to challenge Chen for #1 spot. Alexei's answer was not illegal or offensive or a crime... .. just too obviously over-optimistic and unrealistic, given the gap between him and Chen today. So.. my reaction was, when i read it, in Russian and English languages: "oh boy! you're a bit obtuse to be saying this..... but then why am i not surprised given the stuff you, big macho with fancy car fotos, fat-thin girl quotes, and fotos about you hunting innocent animals, you post on line other times.. :D"

Is that what he posts? I don't follow him on any social media.

On IG, it's mostly pictures with his girlfriend (a lot of these), some skating/training pics, a few pics with fancy cars. Nothing objectionable imo. I've never seen the other stuff, but IG is the only thing I follow him on and I didn't go way back through his old stuff.

ETA: And also, as has been said, the question was whether he thought he would be able to beat Nathan in the future. It doesn't say next season, or anything. I thought his answer was perfectly reasonable.

He posts different things on US-based and Russia-based social media. I am sure he knows "going hunting animals for fun" and reposting comments about girls like "I don't care if you (a girl) are fat or thin, as long as you're is not fat", will not fly well with the US crowd.

etc.... ... i don't care if people are un-PC or "anything they are"... I just can't stand two-faced ones..

And when were these posts with the screencaps made?

Not that I care, because I have never seen Alexei post anything supporting a vegetarian or animal friendly lifestyle on his English IG. As has been said many times, Alexei posts photos with his girlfriend, about his girlfriend, he loves his girlfriend, etc etc. You'd think he was an 18 year old boy or something.

And the Christmas photo seems dated to me, as far as I know, he was posting from the US in Christmas 2017, although again, I don't follow him that closely, so he certainly could have traveled.

In short, nothing hypocritical, and certainly nothing silly or obtuse about "I can beat Nathan Chen". I would be disappointed if the *didn't* believe that....

To be exact it was girlfriendS until recently, and many fast expensive cars... He thinks he is so cool and hot.. One post (on the russian site) said "Women don't need to get too drunk (before having sex) because all man are handsome" which is a counter-phrase to "she is so ugly i had to get drunk to sleep with her" :D ... it's not a crime, of course... but it says something to me about his "level of culture".

It's not where the photo is from, it's what he posts for US audience and for Russian audience. With anti-gun sentiments today and anti-hunting, maybe he does not want to take a chance for social back lash..... Russians will think he is cool, and Americans may not think it is too cool.. and that's two-faced.

In short, nothing hypocritical, and certainly nothing silly or obtuse about "I can beat Nathan Chen". I would be disappointed if the *didn't* believe that....
He can say whatever he likes.... Chen is 10X above him, skating wise and education wise.... and does not waist time taking "macho photos" with hot cars and women. He is practicing quads and attending Best university in USA.

A teenage boy? YOU'RE KIDDING.
Right? I knew so many guys in high school who were like that.

And also, I still don't see anything hypocritical about posting different things on different social media. Plenty of my guy friends share stupid stuff on Snapchat or in group chats that they'd never post on IG. I see it as sort of the same thing. Different audiences, different content. Doesn't mean I like the stuff, but it's not hypocritical to me.

And as for the hunting stuff, he actually has a post of him out shooting with the Cains from a couple of years ago. So he's not hiding that interest.

Again, I'm not a fan of hunting, but not seeing him being hypocritical for not sharing that particular picture.

Thanks for your perspective. :respec: There is such a thing as having different personalities and different maturation trajectories...

We all (including young athletes) live, learn, and evolve. Or not. :watch: Live and let live, maybe. :COP:

Alexei K. comes across to me as a Fernandez type, a talented mess that just needs the right guidance to get to the next level. I have no doubt he can challenge Chen and whoever else to be the top U.S. man, I just don’t know if that’s realistic with his current coaching situation.

Oh my ... Jason cut his hair, I think? https://twitter.com/JasonBrownFP/status/1008093120578220032

Hopefully this won't have a Samson-like effect on his skating.:lol:

When Jason embraces change, he embraces change:lol:

Although TBH, on any other man that cut would be considered long (ish) hair, it’s not like he went full out short. I don’t spend my time obsessing about skaters hair, but I think the mid length bob is flattering on Jason.

I will miss the pony;)

His IG story has it dried and I agree, I think the ponytail is done. The front especially looked just too short for pulling back.

Either that or he's going to be bobby pin central this season.

His current length and your pinning idea makes it perfect for a The Last Samurai routine.

 Jason looks humorously perplexed in the tongue-in-cheek photo. I'm gonna suspend judgement until his hair has been dried and styled. He didn't give himself a buzz cut, so he appears to be easing into losing his long strands. :D

I mean change is good. And when you make one change, other changes can quickly follow. So far it seems to be all for the good. And it's important to get ahead of that curve, especially when it comes to quads, eh @Gil-Galad? ;)

Lighter and able to bounce higher! :saint:

I agree with your post, except I won't miss the pony, because time moves on, and it was time for the pony to move on, even as Jason is moving on and continuing to mature and evolve. If not now, when?

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven... Eccl. 3:1
