Trankov and Aljona. This would have been a partnership of this century.:EVILLE: We all just can imagine what energy and spirit this pair would have had.

I love you Bruno

Y'all remember what happened when he tried out with Stolbova LOL. I have a feeling it would've been the same with Aliona.

Trankov with Stolbova or Savchenko? I suppose there would have been constant fighting. LOL. I remember reading an interview with Ingo Steuer at some point years ago and he said about Aljona. "One just doesn't stand in her way" meaning she was the one calling the shots. And the "Stolbova stare"is famous by now.

Definitely not if you look at the major stuff. They have the same Olympic medal record, but Savchenko has more world titles and medals and more ISU championship medals (European skaters don't skip Euros as often as non-European skaters skip 4CC).

I believe the senior ISU championship medal records are as follows among living skaters:
Rodnina 21
Savchenko 20
Kostner 17
Joubert 16
Plushenko 15
Szolkowy 15
Virtue/Moir 14

Not counting team medals, Rodnina has the strongest Olympic record, followed by Virtue/Moir and then Plushenko.

Well, heck, now I need Aliona to get at least two more ISU medals.
And then there shoud be a Grand Ball where she gets to open it with Roger Federer. LOL.

I remember one interview where Aljona said something like "at first Bruno had a hard time believing that his partner might be right". Oh sweet Bruno, let me pull you aside and tell you a little something about your partner...

Hahaha I don't believe we've seen a good Stolbova stare in a long time! Girl has lost her touch!

I'm not sure if this article is available anywhere else on the forum, but it's worth a repeat. :cheer2:

German pairs skater named 2017-18 icenetwork Person of the Year
Congratulations, Aljona! :glamor::encore:

All hail the queen, she deserves it. Icenetwork finally got something right.

He said coaching with JF Ballester was a good way to start his career as a coach. Aljona will be ready to move too but the La Chaux de Fonds ice rink is too cold for practising jump, twist...

Moving permanently or just for the season? (This would be a good indicator of whether they're returning)

It wasn’t mentioned either way that I heard, but it certainly sounded as if he views this as the first steps on a long term plan that he has been considering for awhile, not a stopgap.

On another note, I love watching them pretend like they have a clue what the partner is saying when they’re interviewed together in a language only one knows. Aljona always looks very interested.

Ladies and gentlemen, the internet is now over. Please make sure you have all your personal belongings before exiting. There is nothing left to say: https://www.instagram.com/p/BikeTPslfk5/?taken-by=aljonasavchenko
I'd love to see that exhibition number!
Video filmed from afar of this program as debuted(?) in Florence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2rFeWOz8k0&t=86m0s

Decent fan cam of their other exhibition number (from earlier this season) in Florence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cWQuGlCFrM

So, it turns out this Instagram photo posted by Aljona on May 8th showed the feet/skates of her new students, Alexa & Chis Knierim! The 3 of them on Oberstdorf ice: https://www.instagram.com/p/BixH5b2hy1O/?taken-by=alexa_knierim

ICYMI - the news thread started in GSD on Monday, May 14: The Knierims have switched coaches from Sappenfield to ... Aljona Savchenko!

Aljona and Bruno have a press conference scheduled in Berlin tomorrow (May 17).
