The Voice premiers Monday, Feb 26, at 8 Eastern on NBC. The mentors are Blake, Adam, Alicia, and Kelly Clarkson. There’s a new wrinkle... a mentor can block another from turning around. The block is in effect for the first round and can only be used once. There’s also a save option during the elimination rounds.

I think the block is unfair to the singers b/c they may not be able to choose the coach of their choice if the coach is blocked. For instance, I'm pretty sure that the last guy would've gone with Blake if he wasn't blocked, but couldn't be on his team b/c of the new stupid rule.

I’d be concerned if there were no steals. As for the last guy, I suspect he’s fine with Kelly. Blake does a great job with the singers fit a particular mold, but sometimes struggles with those who don’t. Exhibit A was the singer he had last season who wanted to do country, so he gave her gospel and soul arrangements of country songs.

Blake has had an unfair advantage for 13 seasons because he has been the only country singer on the panel. His followers vote for his singers even if they're not country. There's no way that girl on his team should have won last year.

Now with Kelly there I think some of the country singers might choose her over Blake. I mean, her mother-in-law is Reba-frigging-McEntire! And she has country hits of her own. And she's fabulous. But I'll be glad when all of them have used their blocks because I think it's stupid.

I like what Jack Whitehall said at the Brit Awards about the Voice (I have to paraphrase):

Ah yes, The Voice....the show where they pluck you from complete obscurity and catapult you into total anonymity.

Yes, I'm not that impressed with the talent so far. There are people who are good but nobody's great so far.

I loved when Kelly called Adam out for complimenting the guy who sounded like Adam. Funny.

I love blind auditions because they judge by what shoud be judged... their voice. I don't watch after blind auditions though.

I'm getting a little tired of Alicia's redundant gushing in order to get a contestant on her team. She used to sound more sincere. I think the talent is a little thin this year. The only one I'm excited about (and that I actually remember) is the karaoke host who sang last. His voice is beautiful.

ETA I can't believe Kelly Clarkson didn't know who Tiny Tim was. Hint: not the Christmas Carol one.

I think Alicia is much more sincere than Adam, and I think she genuinely loved that last guy, Terrence, tonight. I thought he was great. Alicia got lucky with that guy. She's got a good team.

Everyone loved him. I did too but why did he have a donut on his forehead?

I guess I'm in the minority. I didn't like Terrence's version of 'My Girl'. Too embellished. Keep it simple and from the heart. I noticed that all the judges weren't fighting hard for him, like they have in the past with some of the 4 chair turns.

I thought they fought hard for him, and Kelly even said that he could be the winner. But he's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. I thought he was really talented. Beautiful tone and control.

Kelly even said that he could be the winner.

Who don't they say that to? What would be the point? I want you on my team, but I don't think you will win? Then they have to pit the people they think would win against each other and get rid of one? Has never made a lot of sense to me.

Why I only watch blind auditions. The rest of the show does not appeal to me.

Love Blake and Kelly this season.

I thought there was more fodder picked this week. We should see some of the best next week.

I used to quit watching after the Blinds because the Battle Rounds seemed to turn into desperation filled shriek fests. But I've managed to make it through them the last few seasons. I don't mind the Knock Out Rounds so much.

I wonder why The Voice hasn't had many post win success stories.

It's probably because the production company doesn't promote them after the show. There are several who Blake has taken on tour that have achieved modest success. Adam promoted Jordan Smith & I think the show did some too so he's probably the most successful so far. I think Christina Grimmie may have turned out to be the most successful if not for her death.

kelly has an extremely underrated voice, it's so powerful and beautiful. i'm afraid with all her training her padowons they won't make it up to snuff.

Kelly's experience will be invaluable once voices start to break down due to overuse. I expect her team to be fairly smart about song selection and packaging.

Do we need an American Idol thread? To my ear, even the rejects on The Voice have performed better than most of the people who got golden tickets on the first two shows.

^ hmm. I found the opposite in a way.
While there was some better singers on The Voice; not many seemed “star material “ or singers I could see making and selling records.
They weren’t a lot of them particularly marketable.
However I felt like Idol had more interesting and marketable talent,

do you think she has a chance to win?
A lot will depend on how she plays the battle rounds. Every time there's a new coach, there's a potential for making a mistake that ends up being costly.

Does anyone see an obvious front runner yet? While I don't expect the producers/editors to put an obvious top 4 as the last pick like they did last year, there may be a couple of people tonight that end up going far.

Only five 4-chair turns this season. An all-time low? No one really stood out so far. If I had to pick one, maybe the woman who sang the Cher song? It was pretty much a snoozefest. Maybe someone will breakout during the battle or knockout rounds.
