How could she top Candyman?
Lol, umm.. no. She's too short. Lovely skater, and I love her expression, but she can't beat her own genetics to stand out in seniors, in my opinion.Anastasia Shpilevaya is one of the best juniors out there by a mile.
It might be more critical for guys.Lol, umm.. no. She's too short. Lovely skater, and I love her expression, but she can't beat her own genetics to stand out in seniors, in my opinion.
But people always talk about long lines and great power and wouldn’t a short woman have to work harder for power to get speed and the lines not be so striking? I’m Going to have to watch some more videos! It might be more critical for guys.
There is not just a loss of dominance. It’s a loss of talent. What’s going on is not duchesneys beating k/p. It’s a total stiff knees and bent posture and low tech problem from top to bottom.
I say Russia must import all new talent and choreographers! Hire Megan duhamel to advise pairs. Hire camerlengo to advise dance teams. Or send them to him full time!
Duhamel to advise pairs? Roll eyes.

Tanith already said S/B have improved enormously in the last year and should be challenging for World medals very soon.

I don't know Bukin vs Ponomarenko 2.0 makes me believe they will be just fine

Watch Katia Gordeeva, Elena Berezhnaya, Tatiana Volosozhar. All are short women and don't weigh much, but they were able to generate power and lines through great basics.
Sounds right to me! The point was made that Soviets and maybe Russians for a while forced all the good women into pairs and dance so if you wanted to do any skating at all really you must excel at pairs and dance. Now there is more freedom to stay with singles much much longer and sorry to say struggle maybe even stink at singles! Now the people in dance love love love ice dance! But just because you love doing something doesn’t mean you are good and are nothing but Florence Foster Jenkins! Stepanova!!!One thing I am wondering with their insane depth in womens if literally all talented young women prefer going into singles now as they finally see they can be a star in singles on their own which was almost unthinkable at one point for Soviets/Russians. Especialy as the problem with most of the Russian dance teams is the women are too weak.
That’s good- just using power of Federation to put people who should be ice dancers in ice dance- but it’s also sending people with talent to people who can maximize talent. That’s why everyone in the world Is going to Detroit or montreal and then Russians just stay in Russia ignoring the whole Detroit/montreal explosion as wrong. It can definifely be said no one in Russia in ice dance establishment can maximize potential of an ice dancer or improve an ice dancer- to that Detroit montreal level.Yeah I think almost all young Russian girls who gets into skating today dream of being the next Slutskaya, Medvedeva, Zagitova, Lipnitskaia, or Sotnikova not of being the next Marina Klimova, Tatjana Navka, or Pasha Gritschuk. Which is fine, except not enough of the real talents are going into the ice dance and to a degree pairs for its own good anymore. Maybe they need to find a way to force more of the top identified young talented girls to go into pairs and dance, splitting them evenly between ladies, pairs, and dance at the grass roots level. While I dont like that semi communist approach it might be the only way.

What?! Shortness never hurt Meryl Davis!
Things have been cyclical before it just never meant Russians off ice dance podium! 1981-1984 T/D domination! Russians still podium. 1999-2002 just all non Russian domination- Russians still podium. 2011-2014 Russians still podium. You have the duchesnay blip. So I guess you could ask in this era of Russians not being champions is it still the lowest ever period for Russians in ice dance.I think its all just cyclical.
USA used to dominate ladies, now we are crickets but strong in things like Dance (which we weren't)
Fast forward a couple more cycles and Im sure things flip again.... just like Japan, and Russia.... cyclical....

B/s not going to worlds!!
Now that Russia will probably only have one spot for 2019 it can be a very exciting period of reform and ijs education!

Maybe they won’t! S/b are 9/11/10 at worlds. They could easily be out of top 10 with a mistake. Z/g just at Olympics were out of top 10. I just hope they place so real reforms can be done and Russia learns about ijs ice dance in 2018.Do you truly believe S/B and Z/G will not place higher than 14th and 15th? S/B's scores are now in the C/L-W/P range. They would have to pass out mid-FD to not qualify 2 spots.
