No. Obviously. Everyone is getting the tough treatment, and it would have been maybe worse with another US team since Shibs have (objectively) the best SD (not in taste - subjectivity - but in the execution).

Yeah I was terrified when I saw their TES right after their finish. I was expecting like 70-73 so 75+ was a relief LOL.

This panel was strict on everyone. Last time H/D competed internationally they got like a 74. I don’t know why people thought they would’ve scored better than the Shibs with this tougher panel.

Yeah, after looking at the protocols I’m not that worried about them. It was basically level 1 and 2 rhumbas for everyone LOL.

Interestingly, B/S had slightly better levels than the Shibs (no touch level 4 vs level 3 for the Shibs) but the Shibs still beat them in TES due to GOEs.

Yes, the key for the Shibs is to face that tech panel head on, like they did with Dosani at SA. In a sense, I kinda hope they do the FD because it would be good for them to see how the TP treats them.
 
Hey the Shibs were very, very good. They came in second. Which was what I had
expected and I am doing my Happy Dance. I have access to the pbp but stay out during
ID competitions.

Is this the same panel that will be judging the individual ice dance? If so, I wonder how well P/C will fare. V/M only earned a level 2 for the rhumba, and they are far stronger than P/C. Maybe the ISU ordered the judges to cut it out with the world records and be more stringent in their judging.
 
Yes, the tech panel was pretty tough on everyone. I don't think B/S are better than the Italians. I think B/S have improved a lot but they get some breaks with their sloppiness. All top teams lost some levels, so they'll all have to take a look at the protocols and make adjustments. Again, I think the team event at the Olympics is still such a work-in-progress and it's a completely different dynamic than the skaters are used to dealing with in such a serious format. The early start time has to be a factor for everyone too in how they are feeling.

It feels to me (as usual) like some kind of push to get B/S over some other teams who are actually better than them in the ice dance individual event.

The Shibs did not seem as on with this SD as they've been for most of the season, but they deserved their second place spot and hopefully this is just a warm-up to them bringing it in the individual events. They were great on the twizzles and definitely are more than 1 point better than B/S!

My sensors are up. It occurred to me that since ice dance became an Olympic medal sport (1976 Innsbruck), a Soviet/Russian team has been on every podium. I thought the politicking in Vancouver was particularly egregious where Dom/Shab won a bronze medal over a far better B/A.
 
People in twitter are loving the "sass" that the Shibs gave Andrea Joyce in that post-comp interview. I think NBC were trying too hard to create a Nathan Chen-like narrative with the Shibs but this type of level calling isn't unusual in ice dance and the Shibs come out it stronger.
 
^^ Right, tech panel was tough on everyone, but again some obvious leniency on B/S just because that kind of 'Russia must be in the medals' push always occurs especially for the Olympics, even when it doesn't take place in Russia. When it does take place in Russia (as Sochi has shown us), well look out. Dopin' and all. :yikes:

Not meant to slam all the OAR athletes. B/S are nice people and competent skaters. They just aren't really as good as the scores and the politickin' that goes on for them tries to indicate.

And I noticed how after Tanith saw the high tech score, she immediately tried to say something positive to show supportive neutrality, because what we saw and her commentary during B/S's performance definitely did not match that high tech score.

Yes, the technical panel is the same for ice dance in the team event and the individual event. The judges panel will be different though.

The way Andrea questioned them actually really annoyed me. I’m glad the Shibs asserted themselves the way they did.
 
I have to say I'm living for the positive social media reaction to the Shibs. Overwhelmingly positive and made some respect ice dancing as a sport. This TE experience will make the Shibs more fired up and prepared and better for the FD tomorrow (if they still do it) and for the individual. They now are going to get direct feedback and will come out much stronger than before.
 
Now that the Short program/dance portion of the SD has concluded, congrats to the Shibs for giving the U.S. its highest placements and the most points. Reminds me of when they were the only Americans to bring home a medal for the U.S. at Worlds last year.

This is going to be tough. It's going to be ferocious. The Shibs won't be handed anything. They will need to be rocks in the FD as well as the SD.

I think the panel is holding the line. The scores were high at Nebelhorn considering the level of the teams there. But the panel & the judges know we're going to see at least 20 teams deep. Also, I think we're seeing a panel that doesn't necessarily agree, which is fine because they are keeping an eye on each other and an eye out for the teams. There were a lot of scores changed upon review during the team SD.

What happened to Anna & Luca with the deduction? Did the panel call the split as a fall?

The same caller--along with a tough assistant tech specialist--was at Cup of China. Scores were tight and the calls were strict. Chock & Bates and Bobrova & Soloviev had two level 3s and a level 2 in their SDs there, but P&C had level four everything except one step sequence. However, the same caller did Nepela, and there Bobrova & Soloviev had the level four rhumba. At Cup of China level 3. Here, level 2. So you never know.

As we saw for years when there were two passes at the pattern dance, you can have the same team skate a level 4 once and a level 3 or a level 2 a few minutes later.

Is there something going on that I'm not aware of? Do Maia and Alex seem to have more naysayers than what's typical? Or am I imagining this?
 
I may have missed this...apologies in advance...

Watched the pairs team FS on mobile and noticed the Shibs FD on the practice cam window. Was this a regular practice time for the individual event or does it mean the Shibs were indeed practicing the FD bc they'll do it in the team event?

I'm not sure if that was confirmed yet or not.
 
I have no idea. I think the USFS may think about having Bradie do both considering how close Italy is to the U.S.
