The Shibutanis Thread Cinco...Mambo!

Just NBC trying to say Shibs shocked at their score, only did "pretty good", have a disappointing score, etc. Andrea Joyce even asked them about having a skate that they didn't want or whatever and the Shibs were like wtf are you talking about?

I was glad the Shibs pushed back on Andrea about that and said no, they were actually quite happy with their performance. To me, that indicates they feel confident in themselves and ready.

I thought their short dance was lovely, maybe not the BEST they have skated it, but very good indeed. I really enjoyed it.

Look forward to seeing them in the FD today! :cheer2:

I keep watching their SD and I think it was really fabulous, the best in my opinion. I don´t understand the level 2 in the rhumba, they even replay in slow motion the first part of the Choctaw and it looked great, we don´t have a good angle for the second part.

And why not perfect score for the twizzles? :wall: I think that C/L twizzles are almost always underscored too.

Things Iike this make it so irksome that the tech panel and judges are completely unaccountable. They never have to explain anything, ever.

ETA: the female commentator in the NBCSN livestream, who knows her stuff, whoever she is, could not stop talking about how precise the Shibs were, and precisely in their twizzles and rhumba section! She watched everyone's rhumba like a hawk!

And I am not loving the camera work.

the comments of people on Leslie Jones twitter about the Shibs are so cute and funny .

This Is the time for Mirai, Adam and the Shibs to exceed themselves and give it all they've got to keep that bronze medal or even try to turn it to silver. They are all more than capable so go team!!!

Please omg. Adam and Mirai especially with Oly medals I need to happen. All this talk about Italy beating the US has me anxious as hell. Imagine if I were actually American lol

I think what happened is Tanith was seeing the levels as they came in and apparently the caller called both of their step sequences and their pattern as all Level 2s. In review the levels were bumped up to 3s on the step sequences, but while commentating Tanith saw all the 2s and was shocked and her commentary reflected that, and it put a damper on what was a good performance. I knew when everyone else’s tech scores looked so low that it wasn’t the Shibs, it was the panel. But I guess the perception thanks to Tanith commentary and the low score was that it wasn’t good.

Thank you! I was kind of pissed at Tanith for that commentary.

I think she marred what could have been a video we could have rewatched. I think Belinda Noonan's commentary on the NBC stream aka the Olympic broadcast stream was way more positive and she kept complimenting their technique and feet.

This is a HUGE skate for the Shibs tonight. If they do their U.S Nationals FD which is their only slightly bad performance this whole season they could easily be 4th in the FD depending on how both the Russians and Italians perform. And the U.S could be in big trouble then as Italy is stronger in ladies and while the U.S should be stronger in men it is quite likely U.S will beat only Italy there if the other men actually skate decently well this time, and that is even assuming Rippon himself skates well. Good luck, biggest skate of their careers tonight.

They look very glamorous in duct tape!

Btw, can anyone tell me where Tanith is commenting? I thought my only options were Johnny/Tara (ugh) or Brit lady and her clueless US sideman.

She’s commenting on ice dance on the NBC Primetime Broadcast that airs on TV. I think after the primetime broadcast is over they post it online and on the app too.

Is it a replay of the whole thing with different commentary? I'm confused. Because if it's after the event, why would she have been confused about the Shibs' levels?

No, she’s watching and commenting live. She commented on dance for NBC primetime, then they switched to Tara and Johnny for ladies and pairs. Johnny and Tara aren’t commenting on dance at all. (There was a cute clip of them watching and dancing during the SD though lol).

At the same time as the NBC primetime is happening live on TV, the NBC livestream online is also happening with different commentators. Both broadcast and livestream are available later as replays.

OH, now I see. I saw a glimpse of Tara and Johnny before the SD so I immediately switched to NBCSN (also because I was afraid of NBC chacking stuff) and never realized it was actually Tanith Who was commenting on NBC. That's great! I will definitely listen to her tonight.

Thanks for taking the time to explain it.

Definitely the Olympics works very well as promotion. Their YT channel already has 54,000 subscriptions (Remember that a few months ago they were hoping to get the 40,000?) and Maia´s recent tutorial +73,000 views.

I love this in US News & World Report:

Maybe it's not just skating fans who have come to loathe Andrea Joyce!

I love this! I am always annoyed for skaters when they have to talk to Andrea. She is so rude & never asks good questions.

I thought the Shibs were great last night! The panel was tough on everyone (although they somehow seemed pretty easy on sloppy B/S). Hopefully the Shibs can use this as an advantage and make any needed adjustments before the individual event.

Wishing the Shibs the best of luck tonight!
