Vanessa James | Morgan Cipres

What would you say if they had scored 2/100ths of a point higher? And how do you know it's mental and not physical? One issue they have is Vanessa being older. She is not like a Tutberidze girl who can do 25 runthroughs a day.

S&M were so smart not to go to Russia for Europeans! Nothing good could have come of it. A Russian sweep was inevitable :blah:

My wife and I have had several arguments about whether Joubert is elegant. I think that he was a very masculine skater and I appreciate that in many skaters I enjoy such as Elvis Stojko and Max Aaron. But I also think that the word elegant is not really the right way to describe his good points as a skater. It depends on what Judge is interpreting that skating!

Sorry that I am not focused on James and her partner. I will say that I really enjoy the music they use in their long program this season and I hope they have the chance to get or get near the Olympic podium if the American team has struggles in Korea!

Theres nothing wrong with this years LP though.

The Sound Of Silence wont fix their technical mistakes....

Sometimes I dont understand the panic of switching music, coaches, etc... switch your TECHNIQUE!!!!

Like Karen going back to Golden Pond isn't going to reduce under rotations.....

An interview at the start of the season, they mentioned how they would be open to going back to Sound of Silence if they felt it was the right thing to do. So if the rumor is true, it’s not like the thought has just occurred to them.

Yes, I remember that. I suspect they're going back to "Sound of Silence" because they think it will give them the best chance to medal at the Olympics. And they may be right about that.

I'm a little disappointed, though, because I think "Say Something" is also a really good program. For me, it's one of the better new LPs in kind of a lackluster year for pairs programs. So I am a little sorry to see them give up on it. Plus they've been quite successful with it, except at Europeans. And, as @AngieNikodinovLove says, it wasn't the program that was the problem at Euros.

Say Something is a really beautiful program for James/Cipres, so I wish they'd kept it too. If they were going to switch out programs, they may as well have switched out the current sp for last year's sp. But again, not that they really need to because both short programs are boss, as are both fps! It's just that the in-your-face sexiness of the Earned It sp is so badass. :D

Here's another very cool montage by Julie Wie in tribute to Vanessa et Morgan to Josh Groban's You Are Loved:

I'm just going to say: I like Sound of Silence much better than Say Something. For me, Vanessa and Morgan's chemistry is very intense, dramatic, and sexy, so I'm not sure if Say Something, which is all about love and heartache, was the best choice. It was a nice program but I just think Sound of Silence played to their strengths.

As for their SP, I feel like "Make it Rain" and "Earned It" are very similar. They both have that same bluesy vibe, which works great for them. And let's not forget their short program to "I put a spell on you" from the 2015-16 season - that was fabulous!

I really like how this team finds their own strengths. They don't have the balletic lines of Gordeeva and Grinkov, but what they do have are amazing transitions, style, and creativity. They're a nice breath of fresh air.

They don't have the balletic lines of Gordeeva and Grinkov,

And J/C don't need to have 'balletic lines' either. Z/E have 'balletic lines' and they are boring. T/M do not have 'balletic lines' exactly, despite being traditionally Russian aesthetic and balletic technicians, and boring on top of it. Ashtakova/Rogonov do not have balletic lines, and they are very interesting (and not boring) to watch.
J/C have muscular, curvy athletic, sexy lines.... :encore: :swoon:

J/C are hot, they are very good technically and they just know how to rock it. Their connection is like magic. You should all watch the J/C montage videos I linked by Julie Wie.

I think J/C would be great skating to Here - Alessia Cara: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKp2CrfmVfw

As thrilled as I am for Aljona and Bruno tonight, I felt Vanessa and Morgan should have placed at least one rung higher. They were so beautiful and strong tonight! My solace was that the Australian commentator on NBCSN was as enthralled as I was. At the end she said, "I could watch that ten times in a row." She felt the mistakes were small compared to what they pulled off and the performance they gave.

I don't know what their future plans are, but I salute them for their fierce Olympian skates and ending up top 5. I hope they will be as magnificent at Worlds.

I'm really happy for them to be 5th at the Olympics it's a really great achivement. Sure, the LP was not perfect but when you get a 4ThS you are in the big league. Very happy for them they can be so proud ! :cheer2:
