Carolina Kostner is incorrectly reported to have left Mishin

Can anybody tell if she left him or if maybe the Russian fed had something to do with it? Since Caro could be medal competition.
 
Carolina always has listed both coaches, Michael Huth and Alexei Mishin (see her ISU bio), and she spent time in Oberstdorf training with Huth earlier this season, too. He went with her to the Grand Prix (NHK Trophy) in Japan, for example. Carolina never was fully based in St. Petersburg, she also went to Canada to work with her choreographer Lori Nichol. We'll find out in Moscow soon if she completely stopped working with Mishin or if she continues to work with serveral coaches.

My Italian is not good, but if I understand correctly the article says that she might have returned to Oberstdorf for personal reasons, because it is calmer. It is also closer to her home and her family, which is very important for Carolina.

Probably.

The article says that Mishin will be moderating a technical seminar held in Sofia Feb 6-11. Obviously he can't be in 2 places at the same time, so...

Also considering that Caro has worked with Huth for much of her career, it isn't any wonder if she feels that having Huth with her in Korea for moral/mental support is the way to go.
 
Pure speculation but money could also play a part.
Not sure how Mishin operates, but there could have been a contract sitting before Caro that says "I'll take you to the Olympics but you give me 10% of everything you make in skating until your legs fall off. Sign next to the X"

Maybe, maybe not. But I can also envision the scenario where he was on a contract to help her get her jumps back and then they agreed to part for reasons already suggested above. Equally if not more likely, I'd say.

Maybe that situation changed but someone (think Tinami) linked an article about Carolina working with Mishin and Mishin says that he doesn't charge her because he wants to see if his methods will work on an older skater.

That's amazing Mishin doesn't charge. He really has done a great job with those jumps.

Mishin said [in the article] that she had paid the organizers to come to his event but that he would not take money from a skater of Carolina's caliber. It might be just for that event. But then he said something about not taking money from her because he wanted to see if his methods worked for everyone. I'm looking for the article but I think it must have been in Russian and I used a translation site to get the words because I can't find the exact quotes.

It is common among Russian coaches (at least inthe USA) to take on seasoned skaters for free. It brings them fame, good working material and it attracts the top athletes. It is he lower level skaters that pay it all...

A part about Caro (have no idea if it’s possible to quote a post from the archives)

EV: Coaching Kosnter do you really try teaching her something new, put your soul into it, or it's a client who pays?
AM: I don't charge Carolina. Working with her is a challenge. Teaching her is interesting. When she came for the first time her easiest combo 3s3t was so so. Now she is confident in all her jumps, including the Lutz. Working with her is exceptionally interesting - she has an artistic view of the world. In her programmes she is exquisitely exact. And is so hard working, which is even more important. Such skaters don't win because of their moves or training methods, but mainly thanks to the huge work they have done.

I love Carolina's Team, great technician, great trainer, and great choreographer.

Mishin's special arrangement with Carolina probably stems from Mishin not being a surrogate parent to Carolina like he is to his development students. The closest their finances ever intertwine is probably when she pays for ice time at his rink and he helps her arrange lodging, all of which she would pay for herself anywhere she trains.
