2017-2018 Program Music and Choreographers

I see that Marina still possesses (no pun intended) that Devil Incarnate title... :EVILLE: :saint:  :2faced:

Imagine if the ShibSibs win Oly gold! :drama:

I never think Tessa does sexy well, she's so wholesome. But other than that she's pretty versatile.

Purely as performers, I think both Meryl and Nathalie Pechalat had a lot of range, from angst to sexy to coquettish to broken-hearted, etc. Madison Chock can't do vulnerable and Maya can't do sexy. Bobrova has range, so does Ilynkh. But the blonde Barbies, Stepanova and Sinitsina, run the gamut of emotions from A to B. :P

IMHO of course.

Tessa does not do OTT sexy or verging on vulgar, her kind of sexy is a bit more subtle. But not that subtle. She was sexy enough in their latin programs (2010/2011 season FD and 2011/2012 season SD, and especially the exhibition version that came inbetween), in 'Carmen', in a few of their exhibitions, and also in the last season's SD. But it's generally a more playful, flirty sexiness (except 'Carmen'), not in your face, a woman playing up her inner "prostitute - sex godess" kind of sexiness. In my opinion, the former is just as valid as the latter. As for Meryl, I don't see her as more sexy than Tessa in the programs that you mentioned. She played up the sexiness more when she was taking part in 'Dancing with the Stars'. She was quite convincing, but, in my opinion, it verged on OTT and overacted. Tessa looks more natural with her playful and flirty sexiness. And she is becoming better with the fierce sexiness (the later exhibition versions of 'Carmen' were better than the competitive version(s) in that regard).

All these Carmens and Moulin Rouges for the Olympic season.. I miss the days when Adrian Schultheiss selected Smack My Bitch Up.

Did that really happen???

I have always thought SMBU would make a divine figure skating choice.

I also heard that new Taylor song, "Look At What You Made Me Do". And what pairs or dance team wouldn't like skating to that, I ask?

I can't find the article now because when I google her name and the movie I get essays about virtue in Pride and Prejudice but it was in an interview about music and the struggle in 2014 to find music. It will be post Sochi I believe if people want to look themselves. But she said she loved it, really wanted to skate to it, kept bringing different edits into the rink to try to convince Marina and Scott as Scott Trusted Marinas instincts at that time.

Well that's a shame - it would have been a much better choice of music than the actual program they ended up with.

Scott can pull off sexy all day long, but Tessa is definitely, IMO, working the girl next door vibe. I think Marina knew this and was pretty tapped into it, knowing that to force a certain style, mood or piece of music wouldn't do them any favors. V&M would have still been rewarded great scores from the judges due to their basic (strong) skating skills, but not jumping the program shark was an even better idea. Looking back, I am glad they didn't get too carried away by forcing the issue. Tessa and Scott don't need to do that, as their natural talent exceeds bad musical decisions and/or choices ... thank goodness.

Maybe she chose Moulin Rouge to see what she could do, then?
Actually I did not say it in relation to Satine because the parts V/M are using ('Tango Roxanne'/'El Tango De Roxanne' and 'Come What May') don't involve her tempting and enticing patrons/clients. Those parts are all about her and Christian's love story, and their relationship is not like that. Even the 'Tango Roxanne' part is about jealousy and struggle (with that jealousy), not about her being all sexy and tempting for the patrons or even for Christian. She is not even doing that for the rich patron who she is with in the movie during that song. She is basically sold to him and he is raping her. The relationship of the dancing couple (one of the prostitutes and her lover) who are shown at the same time is also different - it's all jealousy and fight.

I don't understand what you are talking about, or probably I do, but then you yourself don't understand what you are talking about. It was the score of 'Pride and Prejudice' that Tessa wanted to use for their Olympic FD, not 'Moulin Rouge' or something else that you are seemingly/probably imagining. 'Pride and Prejudice' wouldn't involve Tessa having to be super sexy. At the same time, Marina didn't dissuade them from doing their latin FD and the 'Carmen' FD both of which did involve Tessa having to be sexy and tempting (which she did quite well - in my opinion).

In any case, apparently our view on what is sexy in women is very different. Seems like your and PRlady's view on it involves a direct demonstration of one's "sexual goods", shaking of hips, ass and tits, and other ways of showing off one's body, dirty winking and super sultry "bedroom" looks directed at men etc.. My view on sexiness is that it can be very different and diverse and also much subtler than what I described. Although Tessa has the playful and flirty sort of sexy winking down pat.

I definitely get a vibe of "sexy" from Tessa at this point. Definitely NOT "girl next door." I feel like she and Scott are totally bringing "the sex" these days. (ETA: Or, should I just say, chemistry. ;)) This, to me, is a big change in them, which to my eyes has mostly happened since 2014. Personally I didn't really see it much before then, but now I'm feeling it. :D It's funny how different people's perceptions can be, though.

I actually didn't buy V/M's sexiness during Carmen. It really looked safe and very kids next door trying hard to me. I thought it was super forced and superficial and they never really got into it with them trying tricks like roaring to be convincing. But I definitely bought Tessa's sexiness during their Prince SD because they seemed totally at ease and comfortable performing it so Tessa could let it out more naturally.

I don't get any "sexy" vibes from Tessa. To me she is the very ordinary girl from the next door. It's always been that way. It's the same feeling whether I've seen her live or in pictures and I did saw their Prince SD live at worlds. It didn't change my opinion. :)

proliferate like deadly bacteria, the earth would collide with the sun and humanity as we know it would cease to exist. At this point I am already weary of the uber wars and find myself skipping certain threads because reading them is akin to :wall:

I have to agree. In carmen it's more about power rather than sex. Before 2014, only the Latin dances make Tessa show her sexy side. But after Sochi, I feel Tessa gives away this sexy vibe naturally, to my pleasant surprise. And Scott has totally been a sexy man these days, short or long hair. Lol.
