2017-2018 Program Music and Choreographers

Alisa Fedichkina is skating to La La Land...

(Somebody in this tweet's replies is telling us LLL is her FP, while her SP is Mozart.)

UPDATE: Jackie deleted his tweet.

He still has it listed on his music selections page though. I think he said something about her going senior in the tweet, but she was at junior test skates, so maybe that's why he deleted it.

Just as a reminder, here is the rhythm description for this year's SD:

Just for some anecdotes, I just asked a bunch of my colleagues and friends who are of Latin American descent and they all said they don't consider Sean Paul to be Latin American music under any circumstance. That doesn't mean it isn't, and like I said it probably doesn't matter, but I thought it was interesting to provide that perspective.

Interesting. Thank you for giving this info. The ISU list is strange, and i can see confusion…… By Int’l Ballroom standards they left out Jive, Paso Doble, Tango. By cultural/ethnic/folk, they left out Conga, Danzon, Plena, Gato, Bomba, Morenada……..

My main objection is leaving out Morenada and Danzon….. it’s so lovely AND fitting for ice-dance…..

especially Danzon....... it's for the heart....

I also wonder how much chance there is that any of the dance teams pick "Buena Vista Social Club" pieces...... so far none. It's a shame.

They didn't list them, but that doesn't mean some of these dances wouldn't be accepted. It's the wording "closely related" that leaves me feeling like the rules may be more open than during Latin combinations in the past.

But, hopefully, not so open that we are really going to start embracing Love Story with an applied Latin beat.

I love both Marin and Karen, but I think it's clear Marin's program is better and Marin is the better skater. Karen has lovely positions, nice expression, and great spins, but Marin is smoother, has softer knees, and her program has more choreography. Karen just glides around a lot. If they both skate well, I think Marin should place ahead of Karen pretty comfortably.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. If SS and program transitions are deciding factors, P Chan would have placed over other skaters in PCS by quite some distance 9which isn't happening anymore.
Anyway, it's only July. I must say, Karen's power blew me away.

I like that in pairs Im not seeing many war horses that we do in singles... I may not like their choice lol but its not a war horse. I admire them, and Scimerim and J&C, S&M, S&H, D&R and sooooooooo many others because I know there is a low likelihood I have to watch a R&J or a Carmen or a Tosca.

LOL, although refresh my drink are K&O doing POTO and Swan Central?

Are you sure? I am not hearing “bananas” … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btUY8rGJGU8
… or any Calypso in this programme….I am hearing heavy African-drum Samba rhythm at the end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nAMPYQUNYE
.... sounds more African-dance than Latin, but certainly not Calypso (imho...... not insisting).

Samba was the pattern rhythm for the juniors that season. Do you think the brief section in the middle with the "Day-O" lyric is from a different song (other than the famous one), then? The program does feel like it has an African theme, which is why I thought of it. Since we were discussing programs/music that push the typical ballroom view of Latin rhythms. I would think that Latin and African rhythms would be hard to separate since much Latin music derives at least in part from African music.

I'm glad that Seguin/Bilodeau are trying something different. They've done upbeat & perky, they've done lyrical & romantical, interesting to see how they handle this music and choreo.

As far as the discussion about finer points of latin rhythms & SD music requirements go, it is interesting (to me) & it would be great if somebody would like to continue that over at The Dance Hall. (Since there are probably quite a few not-ice-dance-fans around here who don't appreciate having to wade through a bunch of ice dance stuff that is kinda off-topic...)

Interesting move by Adam. I remember he said he only had so many music choices left for his competitive programs and he didn't want any regrets. So if he wanted to skate to his own singing, then good for him. This is the all important Olympic season and most likely his last season, so no regrets is good.

Anyway, no matter good or bad, I am still going to love his Bird long program.

The Marc Anthony SD sounds promising. I wonder how they're going to remix John Lennon for the FD.

There are no words for how much I hate "Imagine." :blah: :angryfire

I can only imagine the puns coming our way this season. :shuffle: This is what La La Land felt like for me, until I saw what Ashley did with it. Unfortunately you have Chock & Bates to convince you and not Ashley.

I don't mind it though, and I think Madison will make it tasteful and have a great costume. I'm thinking the SD will be :smokin: from her, she's really come into her own as a performer recently IMO.

The P&C 2016 FD model, which is now the rage; A sweeping, instrumental piece first, then transitioning into the Lennon song in the second half.

Sounds about right. I was imagining them splicing "Imagine" up the way they did with "Under Pressure".
