I don't really care about the lyrics to Imagine, I think the main issue with that music is how dull it will be to watch a 4 minute FD to it. There isn't much you can do with the music and we already can imagine where the the steps will be. The only team I can think of he might be able to quirk something out of it is G&P and even then it's a hard sell.

Imagine is only three minutes, so they have to be using something else with it. An instrumental piece, maybe two different versions, I don't know. It's hard for me to gauge how I feel when I really don't know what they plan to do with it, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

They're probably the same sort of people who hate puppies, sunny days and chocolate chip cookies.

To the contrary ... I luvs puppies, I love sunny days (well as long as its not hotter than the blazes of hell) and I could eat a whole roll of chocolate chip cookies, and in fact I do when I occasionally buy a roll of Pillsbury cookie dough to make cookies. I just hate that insipid song. :P

It's a last minute, slapped together Shpilband FD, so I'm not expecting anything too artful.

But, they scrapped their original SD in 2016 and slapped two unrelated pieces of music together and the judges still tossed out the 9.50+ PCS our top US dance teams have been handed since our singles program fell apart, so it may not matter in the end what the program is like.

Maybe Chock and Bates are going with the "vocal gymnastics" version and it'll sound NOTHING like the original? :shuffle: That might actually be a good idea this time, or do it all in Korean.

I don't hate the song but I do find it boring. Madison will still be dressed like a :glamor: regardless.

I am not sure why it is happening, because I have no problem with understanding spoken word, but it is like if a different part of brain processed my translating and a different part was enjoying the melody, and both parts of the brain could not work together. I would take in words in small parts of the song, but definitely not long enough parts that I would know what the song is about. Does anyone else from non native speakers noticed this?

This happens to me also, not for every song, but definitely for some of them. My brain automatically latches on to the music, and the lyrics are like white noise!

Anyway, I think "Imagine" is one of those songs that skaters choose in an Olympic year because it's supposed to be "serious" or "transcendent." You know, those who don't hate it do see it as a call for peace.

While I love the song, it wouldn't be my choice for a dance program in particular.

Poor Chock and Bates skating to an Shilpband hacked FD. Idea seems so wrong for them.

This team has reached its peak with him as far as artistry goes. It's just not the man's strength. His work looks the same way it did when Naomi and Peter were competing. He also choreographs programs to win, not to leave an audience spell bound. I feel for them as well. They would be almost better suited with Camerlengo and Krylova if they continue

Why are you assuming Shilpband is the choreographer instead of Chris Dean or someone else?

It does not matter who “choreographs" the work, Shpilband will adjust it and add his two cent which changes the overall feel of the program. Pressure was unrecognizable as Dean's work by the time Igor was done with it. That's probably something the OP took into consideration.

Oh my god. look I'm no C/B uber, but they did improve a lot of things last year and seemed to have found a niche that works for them. Why not actually witness the program before predicting their doom? We went through this in 2015 off-season, when they weren't nearly as good as now, and they pulled off a world bronze medal with that Rach program and :scream: SD to Italian "Unchained Melody". "Imagine" that. :p

all ya'll gotsta chill, because they have a tendency to pull it out of a hat when people aren't expecting it. No matter what :scream: the choice ends up being. Like them or not, they do, plus I've heard on many occasions that they're actually some of the most genuine/coolest people in ice dance (outside of their skating programs).

 True. Also, Madison's seemingly endless variety of facial contortions. Rumor has it, she is currently working on twisting her face into a pretzel shape. That should score well... :p :D

That FD is actually not bad, I'm pretty impressed with how much they've improved. It's starting to feel a bit like they'll be going places in the future. I was totally skeptical and  when I heard the music choice, but this is pretty good and much more detailed with their line and musicality than last year, also improved flow and transitions. Still needs work overall but :DLauz1: does it again.

A friend is visiting from out-of-town, and his ringtone is "Imagine." I almost died laughing the first time I heard his phone go off.

I was *lucky* enough to attend the American Idol season two concert, and the big close the show number was a mash-up of Imagine and God Bless the USA. Yes, indeed.

I have zero investment in dance but I love seeing Chock/Bates do well, because it seems to preturb the haters. :EVILLE:

And I kinda like C/B, especially Chock...

For fun, go to YouTube and look up "Imagine John Lennon remix"... Remixes with Nas, dubstep, Muzak... The possibilities are endless!

Chock can bring the a type of appeal that isn't really common among her current competitors (Hubbell and Virtue would be the exceptions I guess) but the point is that Chock can seduce an entire arena, and while Imagine is a fine piece of music I just don't think that it's what will give them the highest chance of being among the top 3 in dance once the Olympics rolls around.
