Savchenko/Massot Fan Thread

Abitbol/Bernadis went for the throw triple Axel back in 1998. I don't remember them nailing it in competition but they must have had it in training or they wouldn't have included it in competition so my guess is that they're helping S/M with this throw.
A/B went for the 3ATh several times and she also hurt herself once;). IMO the best try was at Olympics FP 2002.

As I know there has been only one really clean 3Ath in FS History. It was performed by Inoue/Baldwin at Olympics 2006. This was something impressive.

(masterful commentary indeed)

Interesting detail: I/B had a long oval setup and he threw her right in the same direction. Aljona and Robin tried it the same way back in 2011-2014. Now Aljona and Bruno changed the setup in the way A/B did. They skate straightly and then they change they direction powerfully into in a little circle. May Aljona has learned this from Sarah. This entrence is way shorter and less telegraphed.

I think A/B were the first pair with bery high and powerful throws. Even before the Chinese.

^ They are! It's just that we're coming into the Olympic season now, Beijing is the next one, and there are priorities at hand this year. :p

But, Sui and Han are a fab team.

(they'll just be sooo much better in 2022. :shuffle: and 2026)

That's totally me with my pairs. Gotta have my dream podium happen!

Looking back, Inoue/Baldwin were lowballed in the scores considering their historic throw 3-axel feat combined with a clean skate and lovely interpretation of the music.

This skate was a top draw. I watched this live on TV and I believe in 2006 the judges were still not really used to the new system. You just have to look at the GOE and the levels. Every judge voted differently.

Today the judges would reward the big tricks more and they are more willed to give big scores to outsiders.

It looks like :glamor: Aljona is going to make us wait this year with the music choices. :drama: I don't blame her really, it's Olympic year and we all need to be more patient about these things (because good things come to those who wait). I have faith it'll be fantastic though :D

Meanwhile, Bruno seems to have found a new career after figure skating:

Don't worry, we haven't heard a peep from the Russian pairs either. We're waiting on a lot of people right now!

:glamor: alert - New SP clue!(or not? Who knows but I think so) :sekret:

Looks like another personality-filled short. Yes! :biggrinbo They're with Silvia and John, and John Kerr did the short, but it looks like they're working on details in the choreography. I'm kind of sad that I may have figured it out based on a blurry picture, but hey I love them and want to know their programs, so whatever.

(I like to think Aljona did this as a "bring it, Meagan!", but I doubt it has anything to do with it.. :saint: )

She rocks!

I think this could turn out pretty darn fabulous!!! And a little rivalry with D/R might actually be a good thing; you know Aliona fights harder the more rivals there are!

:kickass: Agree, and may the best warrior (with 5 world titles) win.

There's nothing more fun in figure skating than seeing the pairs ladies try to outdo each other and show who the boss is. :watch: it's like watching an auction where they all want to out-bid each other on the OGM.

She's confidently saying in the comments to people that they'll be the best programs she's ever done. No doubt about it. Thank you my queen, that's all that I needed.

Game on! :rockstar:

I love pair skating and I think this season has epic potential for lovers of quality pair skating. Two Russian pairs who couldn't be more different but are hungry, a French team who is ascending but are always unpredictable, a Chinese team with skills and personality, two Canadian teams looking for a last redemption (I doubt I/M will continue beyond Korea due to Eric's age, but who knows), and the German team determined to get the one prize that's eluded her. And then there are all the other top ten teams who will be there for our entertainment!

I just want everybody to stay healthy and for there to be no major injuries. Other that that, I'm ready to watch and cheer.

Ballester do the new short program choreography with Aljona and Bruno

She is so coy this time it's hilarious. Keep em' guessing, girl! :respec: She's not letting anybody copy the style of programs she's doing for this year. :lynch:

She's also reminding people of how big her coaching team is now (ahem), and growing. :glamor:

Never share your secrets during the process, then knock 'em dead when you show up to competition! I like her attitude!

She posted a new snippet of the long program:

I have absolutely no clue. I love the choreo though, she'll probably reveal it within the next month I'd guess. Work is picking up for the summer and I'm not going to be on FSU as much until next season starts, so someone please update this thread once she does reveal the music!

Agree. I really don't think they need a quad twist; their triple is killer already. Better to shoot for level 4 triple.
