Glamour Puss thread: Sephora, I wish I could quit you...

Highligthers in odd colors will be my downfall: http://www.temptalia.com/anastasia-aurora-glow-kit-review-photos-swatches/
I have not brought makeup in so long since I have way more than I can use, but I might pick this one up (I have the ABH Moonchild too)

.

I know......I have to stop with the highlighters. I bought the BECCA Amethyst one plus my highlighter collection keeps growing as Sephora keeps having them on offer for reward points or deluxe sample with purchase..... :shuffle:

I may splurge for some Amore Pacific skincare with this sale....

There are so many glow products now - I love this highlighter glow/contour set from Charlotte Tilbury. I've never used a contour before (well not since 80s cheekbones - remember those three-tone sets?) and I find it really easy to use as it's buildable. Love the highlighter too - just the right amount of shimmer to use everywhere.

This is another fabulous product from the same line that I've been really pleased with - Wonderglow. It's just enough for an all-over depth/glow without looking like you dipped your entire face in glitter, and it's nice for body highlights for evening (collarbone, shoulder, cleavage, even earlobes if you have an updo).

The products aren't cheap but I've been using both fairly regularly for months and I've barely made a dent in them - a little goes a long way.

When I want to do something a bit special I'll extend browbone eyeshadow out past my outer eyebrows above my temples - I love doing it with gold tones in summer as it creates a sunkissed look for evening, and even some lighter blue shades look pretty good if you know you're going to be in dim lighting all evening.

What do you mean by reverse washing hair? First by conditioner, wash off and only then by shampoo? I am curious, I think I will try it. My hair is soft, fine, and neither quite straight nor wavy.

Yes. Work conditioner into hair, rinse thoroughly, then shampoo.

I'm going to pass this spring as I have an upcoming trip to Vegas and Denver next month.

I think I will be scaling my expectations downward. That Amore Pacific stuff is SO expensive. Even more so than I remember it being. Think I will pass....

Sephora has some great value sets of Laneige skincare and also FRESH lip balms.

I've been trying out some samples of the water line lately from Laneige and they are really nice.

I am also eyeing the cleansing balm from FARMACY.

Love Laneige! It's made by the same company as Amore Pacific. And you're right, they have great value sets :)

Two great recent finds: Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Sake--so many compliments! And at my nail salon they have Gel Couture by Essie which looks and lasts like gel but comes off like nail polish and doesn't need to be cured. Dries in moments. Mine lasted a week until I took it off, just as easy as regular nail polish.

For anyone battling dry lips, I've been using and loving Bite Beauty Agave Lip Balm (similar to their Agave Lip Mask but in stick form) and also the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (A balm that you wear overnight.)

Both are thick and a bit heavy feeling on the lips so you need to be okay with that feeling to enjoy these, but I love them both. Nothing worse to me than a skimpy feeling lip balm.

Loved this article about dressing after 40:

Excerpt:
You know what women shouldn’t do after the age of thirty? They shouldn’t tell other women what they can and can’t do. They shouldn’t accept the bullshit that’s piled onto them by other women. They shouldn’t try to repress their true selves to fit into societal standards. They shouldn’t listen to anyone who says, “You can’t do that.” They shouldn’t let complete strangers with less life experience then they have bully them into a corner.

I always say that fashion is doing what other people tell you to do. Style is doing what you want to do.
Which is why I do my own thing with my thrift store wardrobe and look totally fab. (At least to me....:p)
I couldn't care less about designers, trends or what's "in". Plus it's always fun to say, in response to others saying, OMG, I love your jacket, blouse, whatever - thanks, I paid $5 for it at Goodwill!

Ulp. I just switched winter for summer clothes and I still have too many office--type things I will barely wear (and that's casual office, my nice dresses are gone for the most part.)

So all winter I mourned my favorite dresses which I thought I had mistakenly dumped at the airport the day I moved here with a suitcase that weighed twenty pounds too much. But last week we were staying with friends in DC, and Susan asked me if I wanted anything from the box. What box, sez I. The one you called me in a panic to come get the day before you left, she said.

And there were my favorite dresses and black blazers and two pairs of fall shoes and nice long-sleeve blouses. Omg. Of course I left them there again because it's almost summer in Israel but that is what happened to my nice fall clothes. I'll go with an empty suitcase in October....

I'm an idiot. But at least I restricted myself at Sephora to Gimme Brow, a Clinique chubby stick, Dr. Gross and Boing concealer. Oh and NARS Portofino multiple for the inevitable tan, Orgasm is too light in summer. Even then, $200!

I miss splurging on new stuff. :shuffle:

Those of you north of 50 who use Dr Gross... How often do you use it after your skin is where you need it to be? I was thinking of dropping down to once or twice a week from my current every other day. Will that be enough?

Sorry for double post, catching up...

I use the regular daily strength every two or three days, that's enough. But I just bought the weekly for the first time and if that works as well, I'll switch.

Style is doing what you want to do.
Absolutely!
Which is why I do my own thing with my thrift store wardrobe and look totally fab.
Indeed, you do!

People constantly ask me who coordinates my wardrobe, and where I find my clothes!
It is fun to develop a style which works for you; search/locate the pieces, and pay what you believe you should for them.

My hair is like half straight/half wavy; like it has some sort of identity crisis.

Mine is half wavy and half curly. I have only ever found one person who could cut it well, a black woman who mostly cut black people's hair. And she's long retired.

RE--reverse washing. I have fine, but thick hair and it tangles very easily. So I have to be very careful about conditioner because it can weigh my hair down and make it look greasy if I don't rinse it out completely. Reverse washing has saved me...I had major buildup issues for a while there and it really helped.

For me, the solution was using 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner as the 2nd step (after conditioner). That way, it's easier to comb my wet hair after the shower but it's still more bouncy. I don't reverse wash every day, more like 2 days a week.

VIB Rouge starts today, but curses, an item I've had sitting in my cart for weeks, that was there yesterday happily waiting for its discount, is now out of stock. :wuzrobbed

That's a drag....

Was it the Bite Beauty set with the 3 lip products in a pink tin?

I've been looking at that one and considering it but it's sold out now....

I just got some Fresh skin care from Sephora for the VIB sale. However, I discovered that I wasn't low on the serum I ordered. So now it will sit in my closet for 6 months... Is that ok or should I return it? tbh I wish I double checked, its a pricy thing just sitting there.

ALSO - glamour puss advice, please? Favorite eyes shadow primer. I have used Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and UD Primer potion, and I like them, I don't love them. Which are your favorite? I prefer something I can get at ULTA (since I have 20% off coupon)

The serum should be fine as long as it isn't opened. But Sephora has easy returns too so that's also a good option.

As for shadow primers....I also struggle with this. I haven't loved any of them for awhile.

I've tried Too Faced (this used to be my favorite, but I don't like it much now), UD (I don't like this one), Wet n Wild (just okay), and Lorac (nice and I wouldn't mind trying it again sometime but not mind-blowing or anything.)

^ Same here. The Too Faced starts drying out and getting too thick as soon as you open it. It's very hard to get out of the tube. The UD stays the right consistency, but it's nothing special.

I find that I put on Too Faced primer underneath powder eyeshadow and by the end of the workday, my shadow is flaking off in huge chunks. If I use UD, it doesn't even last the whole day.

Right now, I'm having better results putting a Maybelline Color Tattoo (Barely Bronzed) underneath my eyeshadow.

I really need to get to MAC and buy a paint pot (Ochre or Painterly) as the Color Tattoo is shimmery.

I love the color tattoo but it doesn't work right when I want a Matte eye.

As for the Sephora Sale, I got a refill of my Clinique Take Off the Day Cleansing Balm, A Laneige Hydration Value Set, and Milk pink eyeshadow.

Two things I had my eye on were sold out.

I ordered online but I am going to try to go in person this weekend while the sale is still on.

I want to get a concealer but find it hard to buy that online.

Plus I have a gift certificate which you can't use online if you are ordering from outside the USA.

I use the UD for when I do cat eye liner and it works well for that purpose.

I need new foundation. Right now I'm using L'Oreal which is fine but I don't love. Makeup Forever HD was a bit too light and made my skin too oily. Estée Lauder feels too heavy and was too pinky. Suggestions?

What type of finish do you like? I have been using Tarte Rainforest of the Sea and it has a very light, natural skin finish but it's a bit more matte than I like (my skin is dry.)

I also hear great comments about the IT Cosmetics CC Cream, matte/non-illuminating version. I have the illuminating version but I wouldn't recommend that for everyone as it has shimmer in it.

I like a lot but have to powder it down to get the finish I like (a little illuminating but not disco shimmery....lol!)

The other one I am hearing great comments about but I've not tried yet is the Lancôme Tient Idole Ultra Wear.

Re: eye primers....I just bought a pure white one from NYX. Comes in a little jar like a MAC Paint Pot.

I'll let you guys know how it works.

I made the pilgrimage to Sephora today. As usual, they are out of almost all of the popular items including the Skin Laundry moisturizer with SPF that I was dying to try. It's only $24, so I don't feel a need to put in an online order. Next time. I did get the St Tropez self tanner that promises results in 8 hours or less. We'll see about that. And a Clinique Chubby Stick for cheeks in a bright pink for the summer.
