2017-2018 Program Music and Choreographers

Not only LLL is not the best choice for C/B but Dean choreographing it  His style does not fit this type of music at all imo. He's all about quirkiness, weird body positions and lifts. He was a good fit to choreograph Under Pressure, actually the choreography should have even been quirkier and voidier.
I think Lambiel would do a great job on LLL.

How do you know for sure though, until you see music selection and choreo?

Actually I have seen mentioned before that the Florida teams all do ballet and I have seen at US Nationals video of Tarah and Danny doing a ballet warm-up! SO I'm pretty sure they do ballet. Not sure what Meno and Sand have to do with ballet, but if their teams are doing ballet, it's not showing.

Why didn't you just say so then?

Frankly, none of our current American pairs seem balletic to me. I think for Swan Lake one needs Nathan Chen level ballet to pull it off. Will be glad to be wrong on this - I still think it's a mistake for them.

Check out Meno and Sands competitive programs, Jenny in particular.

For a Swan Lake program to work one needs the ballet level of Caitin Yankowskas or Gretchen Donlan to work. Alas if only Gretchen could jump, but that's a non issue now. :(
I like Tarah and Danny if they work hard I'm willing to keep an open mind on how their FS will look.

I read this as datable, but I'm sure no one on FSU would think that.

As for next season's programs, I'm still waiting for something that sounds voidy--and feeling kind of shocked that Boyang Jin might be the most likely to deliver it.
Jin really grew on me this year, but I am still hoping Han Yan comes back strong next year too. Voidy programs from both of them would make me :rollin:

And this season Chris choreographed exhibition for Gilles/Poirier, the style of which I wouldn't call quirky. I think it is a beautiful dance, though maybe not necessarily skated to the full potential by Piper and Paul.

Thanks for sharing. That's quite lovely. I don't get to see many exhibitions during the season. You are right that the choreo is not exactly 'quirky,' but it still has the kind of unique flavor, unexpected moves and intricate, interesting shapes that have been characteristic of Chris Dean's genius mind for skating choreography. :)

I so wish that Piper and Paul could have more opportunities to reach the top and get onto that podium internationally. They have such a dynamic and entertaining partnership! But then that's figure skating. Few opportunities to succeed at the top no matter how talented and hardworking you are.

Ross Miner is keeping his Queen long program for next year. (Sigh--it's not one of my fave programs from Ross.)

He has a new SP but is not revealing the music just yet.

Agreed, but I'm not a fan of Queen programs in general, so that could color my view of Ross's.

And although I loved NY State of Mind, it stayed too late at the party. Glad Ross is looking into a new one...

I posted an article excerpt with Paige Rydberg's program music/choreographers in the U.S. Ladies thread yesterday: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/in...i-in-a-handbasket.100714/page-24#post-5055591
Rydberg told Figure Skaters Online that her short program for next season will be a tango called “The Gaucho’s Pain” by Tango Jointz, choreographed by Rohene Ward, and that Tom Dickson choreographed her free skate to the selections “Gladiator Rhapsody” (from Gladiator) performed by the pianist, Lang Lang, and “Pegasus” by Two Steps from Hell.

I'm angling for the former.
Nichol will be able to give Gracie another high-gloss coat of paint and you can point at and appreciate.
Alternatively, Zueva, if she chooses to, will rip Gracie's heart out and toss it into the audience.

No contest.

So, in other words, you don't know? I'm pretty sure that's what I asked.

Mariah Bell posted on Instagram that she's already excited for next year and used the hashtag #beautyandthebeast. Music news?

Personally, I am hoping some pairs team skates to "Evermore" for a SP off of the new Beauty and the Beast soundtrack. The music just cries out to all the pairs elements.
Not a SP, but (re-posting from the U.S. Pairs thread):

Erika Smith/AJ Reiss are keeping their short program to "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John and Julie Marcotte is choreographing their new FS to Beauty and the Beast, which will include the song "Evermore."
