Songs You Dislike and/or Detest

It sounds like you're too sophisticated for me. Anyway, I don't have much of a music collection anymore. I threw out my CDs and now I just YouTube songs.
Umm. Sophisticated?? Pretty sure this is the first time in my life that term has been applied to me. :D
I'm a total hick....I still refuse to give up my vinyl. :p

That might make you trendy these days. They opened a vinyl store at the local mall about a month ago. Not sure if it is a permanent store though - they sometimes have stores that come in just for the November/December time frame.

Totally agree with Paul Anka's "Having My Baby" - what a piece of "drek" that "song" is!

"Afternoon Delight" - The Starland Vocal Band - IIRC, they won a Grammy as best new artist (band) back then (?). I think they turned out to be a "one hit wonder."

Oh boy, I'd mercifully forgotten those. It is SO unfair that I was a college student/young adult in the '70s, the music stank during my prime listening years. No wonder I loved Springsteen....

I want to start a thread on music you hated once that you now like. For me it is summed up in two words: Frank Sinatra. And it was a skating program that turned me, too: Dimitriev & second partner's pro program to Fly Me to the Moon.

Speaking of Christmas music, "Santa Baby" is like nails on a chalkboard. Every single woman who sings it, does the cutesy, little girl, whispery, sex kitten voice. Ugh.
I never could understand why someone connected Santa and sex. Definitely second on the worst list for me, which is topped by Paul McCartney's utterly inane "Wonderful Christmastime," a song that makes me want to punch him.

The Rap version of "Thank God I'm A Country Boy".
Wow, I wonder what John Denver would think of that? I remember his version
I remember when I was 12 and all the kids on the playground I was at suddenly changed the lyric to "I love you, you love me, lets get together and kill Barney." There was more but I don't remember all of it anymore. None of us were particularly violent kids though, it was like a switch flipped and suddenly that stupid purple dinosaur had to die. Can you imagine how much therapy a kid would have to go to now if they sang that?
dd is 14 and they sang Barney torture songs on the playground, too, just a few years back. I wonder who exactly is responsible for Barney staying on TV? Because I have never met anyone who had anything but utter disdain and hatred for that thing.
"Tonight's the Night" by Rod Steward.

There are grounds for arrest in there.
All of Rod Stewart. He was just ewwwww. And his singing voice sounded like he'd just smoked like 50 cigarettes all at once.

Probably wise considering the current status of vinyl. Not wanting to give up your vinyl doesn't make you a hick though, just someone who knows how they like their music. It does sound better that way. I wish I had room for a record player.

I wish I knew. I don't understand what we ever saw in that show.

Glad to read so many others don't care for Hello by Adele. I was a bit afraid to admit it here because it seems very popular but I really don't understand the appeal. I believe she's probably a good person but I can sure do without her singing.

I have no use for anything by Cher either.

I have two:
"Feelings" and "Just The Way You Are".

ITA on "Feelings" - ugh!!!!! :scream:

As a huge Billy Joel fan, I don't dislike "Just the Way You Are," but there are many more songs of his that I like so much better. Just curious, do you dislike the song because it got overplayed when it was popular, or you heard other people do mediocre covers of it, etc.? No hard feelings if you're not into Billy Joel's music. ;)

Re: "Disco DucK" - I actually get a kick out of this song - It "quacks" me up! The first time we heard it on the radio my husband thought I was doing Donald Duck imitations while it was playing. I had a tough time convincing him that I wasn't, that it was actually coming from the radio!

I think he's a genius.
However, I just never liked that one at all.
It didn't help that it was "the song" of a number of couples I knew that didn't last!

Everything by Bob Dylan.

It's unfortunate that real singers like Linda Ronstadt and Julie Andrews are no longer able to sing, but Bob Dylan is able to record "music" to assault us with. I was wondering if maybe he has already lost his voice, but just drags his fingernails down a chalkboard and gets the same sound as when he "sings".

I think of Dylan more as a poet.

Dislike: Anything Pink Floyd. And my daughter insists having it on her playlist.

John Mellencamp - Jack & Diane. For some reason when I change radio stations, this seems to always play on what ever station button I hit. I hate, hate this song!

But my daughter hates Baby it's Cold Outside. She thinks it's about date rape. Especially when he gives her a drink and she asks What's in this drink?

I find "Baby, it's Cold Outside" to be unintentionally hilarious. Not only the subject matter and lyrics but the way it's sung in the original recording. The female singer really sounds like she's trying to escape but is trying really hard to stay polite about it.

SNL just did this, with Tina Fey and Kensn Thompson as Bill Cosby.

I still have all of my vinyl. I have discovered that some of the groups or individuals that were first on vinyl, when they pressed their albums into cd's they didn't always copy the whole album. So, I'm justified in keeping them and play them on occasion. My future son in law is impressed with my collection. Another reason to keep it, just for the awe factor. ;)

Oh and I haven't read the whole thread, but if someone mentioned Sometimes When We touch by Dan Hill.........I'm with ya. And I also despise A wonderful Christmas time by McCartney. Like what was he thinking......or smoking........

"Wonderful Christmastime" was playing in the taxi I got into recently. I thought about getting out there and then. :scream:

I heard it in a store and laughed out loud because I thought of this thread. I was so glad I was on my way out the door!!!

I thought that was great. I've listened to a live version with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. There was a lot of giggling between Ella, Louis and the audience. I wondered if Louis might be stoned. I actually liked it as so many others have made a mess of this song especially when they rush through the lyrics.

It is really hard to destroy Silent Night, Holy Night. Like really hard because I love the song

BUT MY GOD, the Stevie Nicks cover I heard tonight made me want to stab my eyeballs out. At first I thought it was Miley Cyrus, but it was even worse than Miley could possibly make it.

Then the station identified it as Nicks singing. There was nothing that would make me voluntarily listen to it again. I would have to change the station.

I like "Disco Duck" too! Anything for a good laugh!
