Which Italians, I've already forgotten both dances of the Italians...we're waiting for something special or a special pair, but we haven't seen them yet.
The world silver medalist Guigard/Fabbri. You may have forgotten their dances, doesn't not change the fact they have the potential to outscore Chock/Bates. The quality of the G/F programs, skating and elements are excellent and in ways better then Chock/Bates.

So, after Skate America, my deepest thoughts are . . .

Yep, I definitely like the 80s RDs better than the snoozy FDs.

To be fair, this is not at all unusual for me at the start of a season. The FDs take longer to percolate, I think. (I do feel like Taschlerova & Taschler's is developing some zing. So naturally that's the program that dropped a spot in the event:p).

I do want to give a shoutout to the Browns for doing a great job stepping up & filling their host berth. Oona, especially, was in her element, I thought, and selling each lift with panache.

Nat & Filip dropped a spot mainly because their ChSt got a ! since according to the new adjustment of technical rules published in the end of September, partners cannot be more than two arms apart in ChSt. They lost at least 2 points for that. Otherwise they will win Green & Parsons.
Same problem happened to the younger Czech siblings so I guess Matteo Zanni has work to do now! Hope they will fix this before next assignment.

How long do we have to wait for GP assignments?

Yeah, yeah, yeah... hope springs eternal for GuiFab fans, but if you think the World title is leaving a North American team's hands either this season or next...

The rules shouldn’t be changed in the middle of season.

Perhaps but also it’s the coaches job to know the rules inside out even when they change
Zanni is also an international technical specialist....which means he would call it wrongly had he been served in a B event this season.

Something similar happened also last year when they changed during the summer the requirements of choreographic assisted jump. Some coaches didn't notice and some technical specialists neither. So in some early B assignments some couples with the ChAJ done according to first ISU release got away with that, only to be caught later in the Challenger/early GP season.

The status of US ice dance below Chock & Bates is more in flux than it has been in quite a while.

Especially surprised by Green & Parsons’ rough start to the year.
Yes...Green and Parson went to the trouble of coming up with a whole new SD (at the last minute), skated it well and still received no love from the judges. I love the program (except for that clunky lift in the middle of it). I hope this does not discourage them too much.

I am confused by the Taschlers. They are such fast and powerful skaters but I feel their programs hold them back. Both programs were full of smoke breaks (points where they come to a dead stop and just pose) that I honestly feel that they don't need (they are both in wonderful shape and could skate full out the whole way through). Plus, their music is just too dainty and uninvolving for such big, powerful skaters. The music holds them back.

...and what's with all the scary looking lifts that we are now seeing in Ice Dance? I saw several near disasters at Skate America. I don't like this new trend. I am all for innovation and development but not at the expense of the health and safety of the competitors.

Yes but it’s the same in the other disciplines. More difficult means more points. But there should be a limit on some things before there is a serious injury (will leave it up to knowledgeable ice dance fans to further comment).

Callers at Skate Canada are Leanna Caron, Kristin Fraser and Andrzej Dostatni.
The 3 extra judges (the 6 Feds with entries have a judge on the panel) are Ukraine, Israel and Czech Republic.
Israel judge was already on site for the Men panel (on which they have an entry). They didn't recycle the Kazakh judge from Men panel (who is also qualified for ID).

Caron and Dostatni probably going to be having many heated disagreements over all Canadian team levels ;)

You know, when folks complain that the old guys won’t get out of the way, I think that the best work G/P and C/B have ever done has been in the last few years. You have to have maturity and experience to pull off the snake and astronaut programs, Vincent or Wuthering Heights. I wish Hub/Don and G/F had the chance at such iconic programs, the skill was/is there.

I do love to see teams develop over a long time but...

Both H/D and G/F have had or had a long time at or near the top.

Not every old team will develop the ability to pull off beautiful or quirky or creative, and/or wonderful programs.

Not everyone is gifted & talented in every particular way.

For example, I could write a book a year for years and years, and no one would ever want to read any of them.

But since G&F are attempting humor this season in their RD, I would like to see them recreate the merengue scene from My Blue Heaven between FBI guy Barney Cooper Smith and the female Asst. D.A. Hannah Stubbs with extra dancing from the second FBI guy:

I think it would be a perfect vehicle for a short guy with a tall partner wanting to be humorous...

At least, I hope, the humor of Charlene "holding out for a hero" while dancing with Marco is intentional :slinkaway
