I am surprised that there is no cheer thread yet for Tiffany and Jon. I saw them at Skate America (actually I saw them board the shuttle bus I was on, morning of the FD). I watched their practices also. I really like this ice dance team. They have their own style and they have come a long way in a short time. I liked their FD a lot.

I was really happy that they made the podium at SA. I was hoping for a gold at NHK, but now they may have to battle for a GPF spot. I am hoping that they make it to the GPF because I will be there.

I've already congratulated Tiffani and Jon on Instagram, or was it FB, but congrats to you too, @taz'smum! I can't even imagine how proud you must be to see how high Tiffani has climbed in such a short time, after the years of misery. I hope they make it to the GPF!

Personally I feel a bit of glee every time I think about Gailhaguet seeing them skate. :D

Didn't watch the FD, yet again. I thought after the SD they had the gold medal in their pocket though. I just saw the results, 4rth in the FD, what happened?

Tiffany has star quality topped off with a generous pinch of quirkiness. You can’t help but watch her. I’d like to see future programs really showcase these qualities.
Problem is Jonathan doesn't match her. He needs to address his posture, lines and core strength. A bit of refinement. I don't know if Kustarova is the best coach for that, but then I remember the Chess SD BS did or Europeans in 2011 and I wonder.

thank you for creating this thread, I was just looking for a cheer thread :)

I too hope they will be a GPF, now we will see.

I will try to calculate, let me know if i
Looking at the standings, Stepanova/Bukin will get another 15 points in Rostelcom and move into first or second, leaving Z/G in 4th with 24 points.

Then in France, Papadakis/Cizeron will most likely get 15 points.

this leaves
Hawayek and Baker (15)
Sinitsina/Katsalapov (13)
Gilles/Poirier (11)
Parsons/Parsons (11)

Parsons and G/P will need to get silver to match with Z/G, and I don't think Parsons can get that in this field, so let's ignore that possibility.

If H/B gets silver, they have they will have 28 points and go in above Z/G. If then S/K gets bronze, they match Z/G with 24 points, and a tiebreaker will decide 5th and 6th qualifier, but they will both go. If G/P gets bronze they will get 22 points as will S/K (9+13) - Z/G will go and G/P or S/K will be decided with a tiebreaker.

If S/K gets silver, they get 26 points and will go above Z/G. In this case, H/B getting bronze will have them get 26 points, and have them above Z/G. G/P with 4th and 20 points will not qualify but Z/G will.

If G/P gets silver, they tie with Z/G at 24 points. If H/B gets bronze they go in above these two teams with 26 points, but all 3 should qualify (leaving S/K out of the GPF with 22 points). If S/K gets bronze, its a four-way tie between H/B G/P, Z/G and S/K, all with 24 points as far as I can see - leaving one of these teams out of the final.

I think that is it?

I really want to see both G/P and Z/G at the final, it will be interesting to see how the chips fall though.

No matter, I think that it's clear Z/G is a top Russian team, and while they all have their qualities, they are my favorite Russian dance team right now and this season as been great for them. :encore:

I really hope this scenario happens because I really want G/P to win silver but also I think a four-way tie for the last three spots will be exciting. Now, if P/C drops out of TdF (not say they will, but if they do), so long as H/B places third and G/P and S/K place in the top two in any order then Z/G are most likely out. The Parsons can play spoiler for any of the top non-P/C teams if one of them makes a huge, costly error.

And enjoy every minute of the battle feeling relieved my kid is not in that bloodbath of a French GP ;)
You are a :rockstar: skating parent. You want the best for your kid, but let life play out as it is. I don't know anything else more a parent can teach their child than to do your best but know life may not be what you want it to be, and if it isn't, continue to do your best. I hope she has time to rest her knee before the GPF, and even more important before Russian Nationals which is going to determine the Euro and World teams.

And, I cracked up every time the Japanese announcer said Tif's name.

I love them so much. Am super bummed they might not make the final and choked away winnning NHK which they should have won easily, but fingers crossed Katsalapov does not screw up to allow Gilles & Poirier 2nd place in France, and they still make the GPF! I think they can do really well there.

If you are the kind person who gave Tiffany a card and money to eat at a famous sushi restaurant or you know the person who gave it to her, please private message me, so that we can say thank you properly!

Tell Tiffany and Jonathan congrats on that level 4 on the tango romantica. Let her know all dance fans know it is NOT easy getting that this season.

Tiffany and Jon skated very well, in spite of the skates issue.Congrats to them.

Not as well skated as at NHK but under the circumstances of the skate problems not bad either! ;)

The full story of why Jon's skates didn't arrive!

“We had different force majeur,” Gureyro told reporters. “We had problems during the flight. In Heathrow, they didn’t want to let me on board, because I took the tickets with a Russian passport, and I entered Canada on my Australia passport so as not to waste time for a visa. If I have another citizenship, I need to use it. But the names (in passports) are different, the difference is more than three letters. "
“They (at passport control) said they were different people,” Guerreiro continued. “Therefore, we still had time for the flight, but the skates didn’t make it due to the delay. And on the first day Tiffany was skating, and I was behind the boards.”
