The executive committee of Yuzu's parade for Olympics victory announced today that the economic effects of this celebration event held in Sendai city last April was estimated at 1.85 billion yen, around US$16.33 million. According to executive committee there were about 24,600 people from outside Miyagi prefecture and about 400 people from overseas. The economic effects were mainly resulted from accommodation, food and beverage expenses. Total visitors at this parade were about 108,000 people. The balance of revenue and expenditure at parade event was 22 million yen. After discussion with Yuzu side, this amount will totally donate to the Skating Federation of Miyagi prefecture to the use of promotion this sport.

SENDAI (Kyodo) -- A parade held this spring to celebrate two-time figure skating Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu in his native Sendai in northeastern Japan generated an estimated 1.85 billion yen ($16 million) worth of economic impact, its organizer said Friday.
The committee has around 22 million yen left after the cost of running the parade was deducted from its total revenue generated from sales of T-shirts and other goods as well as donations and sponsorship fees.
The money will be donated to a local skating federation in Miyagi in line with Hanyu's wishes and is expected to be used to train future skaters.

Some feel-good news:
We are happy to announce that bears which Yuzuru Hanyu received at #GPHelsinki will have a new home for Christmas through charity. Bears will go to children who would not otherwise be receiving presents. Thank you Yuzuru and fans. You are loved.

This is probably geoblocked outside of Finland, but for those who are able to view it, here's a 9 min TV segment about Yuzu's fans (and Poohs) filmed during the Helsinki GP: https://areena.yle.fi/1-50024565

Olympic Channel has Meryl Davis interviewing Brian about Yuzu's situation (video)

https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/v...injured-hanyu-intends-to-compete-this-season/

He basically says that because of last year's experience, Yuzu listens to everything his medical team recommends and that he will certainly not rush his comeback (which is good to hear) but he intends to bounce back and finish this season on a strong note because of course.

They also talk about the 4A.

Yuzu has officially withdrawn from Japan Nationals 2018: https://twitter.com/inthelopodcast/status/1073152475425693701?s=21

Oh, what a shame. He will be SO missed. But, he undoubtedly is doing the right thing by listening to his medical team and following doctors' orders. I really hope his injuries are completely healed in time for him to train to top condition to compete in Worlds. I think his fans would be absolutely devastated if he were unable to skate in Worlds in his own country. Take care and get well soon, Yuzu.

Yuzuru is one of the nominees of the prestigious Laureus Award in the "Comeback of the Year" category, which is "awarded to the sportsperson or team who has overcome injury, illness, adversity, disappointment or failure and risen back to triumph in the sporting arena. The Award may also mark a historic fightback by an individual or a team in a sporting event or series of sports events."

Yuzuru is the first figure skater to be nominated in any categories of Laureus. Congratulations, it's very well-deserved! :cheer2:

It's definitely prestigious and while I personally think a couple of the others who came back from horrendous injuries have the edge, the sheer scale of what Yuzuru did - even if he had been in perfect health, let alone still injured and on painkillers and three weeks training - deserves to be celebrated, so I'm thrilled for him.

I hope he'll go to the awards ceremony, it would be so cool....

Thank you Yuzu for this beautiful message.

All of the messages from skaters were beautiful, but Broan's and Yuzu's were special because of the hostory behind them...

Is there any update on Yuzuru’s health? Will he compete at the worlds in Japan? I would really like him to.

In honour of the anniversary of Yuzuru's historic win - back-to-back Olympics, the first in 66 years and only one of two men now alive who know what it feels like - a link to the recent special Japanese with Dick Button, Plushenko and Javi.... and English subtitles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-yEPl4Sc48&pbjreload=10

I found Dick's words especially moving, we all know Plushy is a huge Yuzu fan and Javi is his friend and teammate as well as rival (not that anything they said wasn't true!), but Dick doesn't say sugarcoat or soft sell anything for sentiment, and watching his record be equalled, you can see in his eyes how much he loved it...
