About confirming scores Y: I was interested in how the other skaters scored. The scores are still pretty scattered and some rules that can be felt deeply. While being restrained from the rules, I want to have a good performance, a winning performance.

About 4T-3A Y: If I don't get +GOE there's no point. I'll do my best to get a +GOE next time. Like Uchimura-san of Gymnastics said, you need to be more clean with your finishes. Once I do that, it'll be another start for me. I can say that I've succeeded.

"It was great. The one area where we were focusing on after the Autumn Classics was spins, and the spins were great. I’m happy and he’s happy." - Brian Orser talking to Olympic Channel
https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/s...zuru-hanyu-rewrites-record-books-in-helsinki/

"I was pleased that I went over 100 points in the short program but in the free program I was aiming for over 200 points. However, I'm happy that I managed to stay on my feet despite not landing all the jumps perfectly."

Njinski was Plushenko's best LP, IMO. So happy to see Yuzuru skating his LP as a tribute to Plushenko. I loved his skate. I didn't care if he made a few tech mistakes on his jumps. Nobody can beat his artistry. His 4t 3A combination was insanely difficult. In Yuzuru's skating we don't just count how many quads he landed. He is on whole another level when compared to other skaters.

Either Njinsky or Petersberg 300 are worth listening and watching again and again! :COP: :plush: :respec:

I have the lyrics of St. Petersburg 300, which I read from time to time, and Plushenko's exhibition skated to it, as well as the nonvocal version he used for his LP, on video. These days though I just use YouTube to watch his skating.

Sorry I got away from Yuzuru. I know there is mutual respect. It is so nice of Yuzuru to express that through his skating!

After another WR, we asked #Hanyu’s coach Brian Orser if he still manages to surprise him. “No. No, he doesn’t surprise me. It’s amazing every time. It never gets old. Really, every performance is from the heart and it’s 100%.”

TAT said she talked with Brian yesterday after practice and Brian said that Yuzuru became like a completely new person this year. He's more happy and open with everyone - before he was incredibly concentrated all the time.

shuzo: after finland, we've been talking about a perfect package & I feel like this SP is linked to that, how do you feel? yuzuru: well for me, I cannot say it's perfect. I will take today's reflection points and use it for tomorrow

Glorious. It's great to see him skate uninjured again, at least I think he's uninjured. His effortlessness and command are breathtaking. What gets me is how relaxed he looks through the whole thing. And the way he ends absolutely perfectly without a wobble, and stares out like a king surveying his realm.

And I love the crowd's roar as he began the footwork after the jumps were done. The first time I saw this program I wasn't all that impressed with it as a program but at this point it's a masterpiece.

Looks as if another GOLD for Hanyu; esp. since all the Russians are out of the race for even a bronze, but ya never know with the shady scoring! Looking forward to seeing the completed competition Sunday! :COP: :plush:

Yuzuru Hanyu left the morning practice after falling trying to complete a 4Lo at the beginning of the FS run-through. The problem concerns the right ankle. After an hour, while leaving the Megasport Arena to return to the hotel, he told reporters that everything was ok. https://twitter.com/max_ambesi/status/1063688692915687424

Jeez. Just stick to doubles and triples if you have to. He's got a freaking 20 pts lead.

Damn. Just heard that Yuzu's injury may be quite serious and he may not only be out of the GPF but perhaps Japanese nationals as well. If that does turn out to be the case, there will be a lot of fans trying to dump their GPF tickets.

Meoima, thank you for all the links you post here. You are a :saint: .

I'm really worried about Yuzu. I just don't think his body can continue to withstand the rigors of competitive skating anymore.

Olympic Channel tweeted a pic of Yuzu with a crutch and this:
#YuzuruHanyu on his injury: ‘I was thinking to stop this competition after my injury but it’s my choice. I trained hard to be here. I trained hard to pay tribute to Russian skating and Russian choreography. For the final I am satisfied, I am happy right now.’

He also said his foot really hurts but it's not as bad as last year.

Interview (in Japanese) about the injury situation is here, and here is a twitter thread that has some translated bits like these:
he's very kuyashii abt the fact that since his ankle is looser, a slight impact will cause it to sprain. but he accepts this way of falling is due to insufficient skill and that fragility is also part of 'yuzuru hanyu' & he must work with it to create a strong performance
on WD-ing: I thought about what to choose. There's no doubt there's ligament damage so truthfully under doctor's orders, it'll probably be 3wks of rest. that will be risky for japanese nationals too. so over thinking abt withdrawing, I thought there's only one 'today'
on GPF and JNats: I have to think about it. I don't think I can win with a layout like today and my performance today was worse. because I'm conscious myself of these, I must think about it

I wish he'd just give up on the 4Lo in the future, after he returns to competition (whenever that may be), but... Well, it's Yuzuru we're talking about.

He has to stop blaming himself... what he did here, getting that score on a totally revamped layout and hurt, was probably more than any other skater could manage.

he's never been physically robust, his strength has always been what he made it.

I hope Plushenko can talk to him, it's the tribute to Plushy that meant so much and also the older man has been injured enough to understand more than we can what Yuzu is feeling.

The loop is a dangerous jump. It has caused many skaters hip problems. IMO Yuzuru should drop the 4R. His dream is to land the first 4A. May be he should concentrate on that instead.
