Your Irrational Fears/Phobias

This could go in the t.v. thread too, but..........went to watch Jeopardy - one of the categories was "Sn---s" and I was going to turn it off. If I was on the show I would not buzz in on those answers!!! Then the last category was ICE DANCING, of all things. So I DVR'd it. I'll just FF through the Sn---s questions.

I think I've mentioned this here before but I worked with a woman who was petrified of frogs and toads. Her boyfriend, who is no longer her boyfriend, thought he would "help" her and locked her in a room with a frog. She wet herself. That poor woman.

Has your dog been with you since he was a puppy? If not there could very well be some incident in his past that has caused this. Animals are smart - they remember things. For example, if he came to you from a shelter, it could be because he felt abandoned then and now has the same fears of being left in any new building he enters. If he's from a breeder, maybe there was something in some building or room that scared him - either way, it would go a long way to explaining his fear of pet stores especially, if he's had bad experiences entering buildings/rooms full of other animals.

((((doggie))))

We got her from a gal at work (backyard breeder) at 10 weeks. It was a neglectful situation - she came to us dehydrated, yeast infections in both ears, and fearful. None of the others in the litter (and previous litter) have the fear-of-building thing going on that I am aware of, but they all have weak temperaments to a certain degree. I suspect that some dogs, like some people, are just wired with some phobias.

Watched the episode - I got all the ice dancing questions right!

When you walk past the meat section in publix and the damn tripe is staring at you like some disgusting space alien snail/honeycomb looking gross thing. I hate and fear ALL tripe.

Mockingbirds. I don't mind saying I praise my landlords cats when they bring them to my door. I have treats I give them, in effect putting a bounty on these little bastards. I don't feel bad about. It's cats 5, mockingbirds 0.

While that's true, dogs can also be rehabilitated. The Dog Whisperer has done some impressive work in the that area, working with dogs who have PTSD.

Rose August, a professional trainer could help you desensitize your dog to buildings, if entering buildings with your dog is important. Don't attempt it on your own, however.
