World Juniors 2025 - Jr Women SP

Shimada

2a, 3f with lovely flow out of it, 3z-3t and she’s all smiles, youthful, joyous choreography, fantastic combo spin, should lead by a bazillion points :encore:

The final SP standings show that the final cut to get the Q was 53.44 - how does this compare with previous years, I wonder...

Is Shimada old enough for seniors next season? We could be looking at our Olympic champion.
Is there a deduction for hitting the boards?
I'm pretty sure there is, as there should be. I mean, you've got a whole rink...

Jia can outscore everyone but Shimada in the free, she'll be ok.
She could in past seasons. There's nothing about her skating this season that makes me think she can outscore Elyce or Ami in the FS; and she may not be able to outscore Inga, Kaoruko or Yihan either. Mind, both Elyce & Ami have had their struggles this season too, but I'd put my money on them staying well ahead of Jia when it's all said and done.

It's ridiculous Mao is ready for Seniors and doing Jr Worlds next year isn't even worth it. They should have made the age limit 16 and not made it 17 which Mao will be at the end of the year which makes it even more irritating for her no doubt to be 17 and yet kept out of the Olympics. This rule really needs to be looked because this girl is not getting anything out of competing at this level anymore especially after she wins a 3rd Jr Worlds.

No, we do not need 16 yr olds competing in seniors. There is too much incentive for certain countries cough*Russia*cough to use whatever methods necessary to delay the onset of female puberty with their jumping beans. Raising the age minimum to 17 makes that it a lot less likely that those methods will be good enough to carry the skater into a successful senior career.

If Mao is as good as we see her to be then she will be around and quite competitive through 2030.

Or not... this reminds me of another Mao who missed the age cut in 2006, and very well could have been the Olympic champion that year.

For me, senior ladies is quite dull at the moment, and I find it wrong that the junior champion is outskating all of the seniors (in my opinion).

von Felten didn't even have the lowest TES of those who qualified: not a huge gap, but Yujae Kim (#40) and Lulu Lin (#36) had lower PCS and 2.5-a little over a 3 point-lead in PCS. They skated groups after von Felten (#17) , which is almost surely a factor, but still, it shows that she definitely has work to do on the PCS side. The only skaters who had lower PCS (within a point) than she among the qualifiers skated quite a bit earlier: Sofiya Titova (#6) and Arina Kalugina (#8). Kalugina's 34.47 TES was 11th overall, just behind #7 Jia Shin's (34.54) and #5 Kaoruko Wada's (34.57).

Looking at protocols von Fenton got -3.4 for a q on the 3T. Seems really high. Or were also things about the axel they didn`t like - though it was rotated?
