Word Games

Today's (454) was a rare miss for me, I think only my second ever. No answers revealed, but using spoilers just in case:
I confess I don't think I ever used the word, and I'm not sure I would have even recognized it as an English word. I don't feel especially bad about the loss because Wordlebot gave me a 90 for skill. I got all but the third letter by the third guess, and the words I guessed for guesses 4, 5, and 6 were all much more common than the solution.

@Louis - I looked at your spoiler after I did it. Your last sentence - same here. And
You use a parer to take the skin off of apples and stuff. It's probably more common to say paring knife.

I made a boo-boo on the third line not moving that last letter, but at least I caught myself in the 4th line.

I tried to use their trick on 4 and 5 (double letters - still and stiff). Didn't work. Oh brother.
