Word Games

And because there can never be enough spinoffs of Worldle, we now have Heardle, the Name That Tune version.

Mine, too!

:D

But that one was dead easy.
"An act of genius!" and "You got today's Heardle within 2 seconds." As long as they are oldies, I'll kill it. Only once a day again? Is there an archive?

I don't know. It's only been up a week.

I got the heardle in 2 seconds, but I'm impressed by those of you who got it on the first round. I thought it was a funk song at first.

I checked - "Each Heardle is randomly plucked from a list of the most streamed songs in the past decade."
Well, I won't know current ones. Fleetwood Mac gets streamed a lot? I don't even like Fleetwood Mac. I just recognize old songs. I would have changed the radio station in the car after that two seconds. When the new Name That Tune was on, I got old songs fast. New ones hardly at all. And the contestants were all younger and got the recent ones more than the old ones. I've been listening to oldies and classic rock stations since the 80s! I can't do the Heardle yet this morning because I am listening to American Top 40 - the 70s, and I would get distracted. I'm not going to keep a tally on this one either.

Yay. Luck. And I actually took time to think today.

PatChan40 - I can tell what you had to go through. Been there, done that, several times.

Heardle-wise, uh, I wouldn't have known it if they played the whole song. They need a 60's and/or 70's Heardle for old people.

Now back to Breakfast with the Beatles. Hey, I could guess any Beatleseardles in one second! hee hee hee

I do two opening guesses for Quordle just to see what I'm dealing with, but no way I'm risking that for Wordle! I do the first guess and go from there - only if I have a really bad first guess do I try something completely different in the second guess.

My general thing now is to go with an opening guess that has two vowels, two (or one) of STRNL, and then one (or two) other semi-common consonant(s). From there, I usually have something to go on for both the vowels and consonants, either because I got them or I didn't, so eliminated. I think about Scrabble values too - the consonants that are worth 2-3 points being more common than the 4+ pointers.

I'm doing different openings every day now too - just to make it fun, going a bit with my gut. More than half my games are 4/6, but more importantly to me, I have (so far!) maintained a perfect record of 61 games in a row :)

Interesting. I always open with two words in Wordle and often use three openers in Quordle, depending on what letters I hit.

Any tried Sedecordle? It's 16 words. Like Quordle, they have a practice option.

Sometimes the words are difficult (ie repeating vowels), but the backlash over rupee? Wow!

They gotta stop using words that end in the same letters. It's not fair. I know, try a word with just the possible letters in it. But that is still wasting a turn or two. I might have guessed the right second letter on the third turn. But I didn't.

My streak is at 54.

I usually use adieu as my first word and depending on the result I use something like labor or poise. Most of the time I solve it in 4 words but I’ve solved quite a few in 3 words too.
